DC 217, game end - alwayshunted   (Mar 25, 2009, 12:22 pm)
Hi people,

Just a quick note, I have to mention that there was actually only one nmr in the last turn, as Matt submitted orders for Germany quite a while ago that I missed.

Thanks again to all of you for getting them in, most of the time.....

DC 217, Fall 1907 - Slangers   (Mar 25, 2009, 2:48 am)
GAME END STATEMENT: RUSSIA<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedfficeSurprisedffice" />
I am really thrilled to have won this game. I have played Diplomacy by mail for around 30 years, but have never had a solo win. Now in my first email based game, I get the win. Maybe my luck has finally changed. On the other hand, I don’t think I have ever told so many lies in a single game, and my conscience is in shreds. Sorry everybody.
The game went well from the start. I was able to convince both Italy and Turkey to join me in an attack on Austria. Poor Austria- there was nothing he could do to save himself and despite a good fight we overwhelmed him very quickly. In 1902 I had to make the decision who to work with next. My head said Turkey and my heart said Italy. I followed my head and chose wrong as Rachel completely messed up the stab on Italy. Our surprise attack on Serbia went horribly wrong, leaving us with an irate and unscathed Italian. That was the start of the hard diplomacy. I had to win back the trust of Stjepan and was lucky that he was incredibly far sighted and forgiving. Thus began the grand R-I alliance. My stab on Rachel was incredibly satisfying, not least because of her irate response. How I chuckled over those reproachful emails... Together Italy and I were able to subdue her easily.
To the north, things were not looking so good. From the start of the game, my relations with England and Germany were not good, but I didn’t worry too much as I expected their war with France to tie them up for a while. It was surprising to see that although they had 2v1 they could not make progress against France, and really shocking to see how England allowed a French fleet to break and take first Lpl and then Edi. It soon became apparent that Michael was calling the shots in the E-G alliance and that he had an unhealthy ob session with Scandinavia. This was his ultimately his undoing. If E-G had stuck to their task, France would have been defeated and I would have had a harder job. Drew was someone they could not afford to let off the hook. In my view he was the best player in this game.
The first great turning point in the game was the formation of an unlikely F-E-G alliance in spring 1904. The plans made by Stjepan and I took a bit of a hit in that season. This scared me to death as the potential for the evil triumvirate to sweep R-I aside was great. Diplomacy time again. Somehow I convinced E & G that working with F would just hand the game to Drew on a plate. I don’t know why they bought this idea as it had no solid foundation, but they did and stabbed France. However, I was still left with hostile units all over Scandinavia and StP in a position where it could not be saved. The F-E-G alliance was broken, but E &G were really in no mood to be active allies of mine.
Then came the miracle of 1905. I made some deals with E and G, where remarkably (and again inexplicably) they were to pull back from my gates. The deadline came and went and there was no adjudication. I then told Germany that I had broken the deal. This provoked outrage from England and so to save the alliance I innocently suggested that we copied each other in on our emails to Warren giving our orders, as a tool to promote trust between us. I duly waited for E-G orders to pop into my inbox and, rather evilly, calmly took 2 centres off them. At the same time Italy pushed England out of Tunis and France took Brest. England -4 sc in one season- an amazing result.
With E & G neutered and France working alone, the decision on whether to stick with Italy loomed large. In Fall 1905, Stjepan had the chance to hit me and chose not to. This was another critical turning point. To be fair, I don’t think Italy could really have won. He might have grabbed an sc from me, but I could have held him there and worked with France to stop the win. We’d have ended with a three way draw. With this let off, my chance came. I think my stab on Italy was a thing of beauty. Perfect timing, perfectly disguised. From the moment I launched it I knew I was unstoppable. I took 13 sc in just 3 years and that was that.
Thanks to everyone who played and to Warren, for a great game. Special thanks to Stjepan for being such a great ally for most of the game and to Drew for some very entertaining correspondence.

Hey folks,

Well, again no orders from Italy, or Germany this time. I suppose it is mostly irrelevant at this point, but they still count as nmrs at the club site. We have a solo winner, with Russia finishing at 21 supply centers after 1907. Quite a convincing win, congratulations Simon.

I enjoyed watching this one unfold. Thanks to all of you for mostly getting your orders in and keeping the game moving along.

Okay, here it is. I have no problem with a shorter turn, so let's make it... say Tuesday? That's Tuesday the 24th of March, 22:00 MST. Of course you can all make it even quicker by sending me orders marked as FINAL...... I'm in a bush camp, so my evenings are open, and I could do this as early as tomorrow.

Here is summer:

England:
F Wales - Liverpool

Italy:

Thanks for this. The way around the map problem would be to go back to the Winter 06 map, reenter the orders received for Spring 07 and then manually order the two Italian armies to hold. Then when you run the adjudication RP will not disband them and will allow the retreat.

Also, once we have the retreats in on Friday, can we make the Fall 07 deadline a quick one- say 2-3 days. This game is over and nobody is talking to each other any more, as apart from England and Germany (who are doomed anyway) there are no longer any alliances. We don’t need longer deadlines

Hi all,

I'm stuck in a remote place... again. Sorry for the delay.

I can find no orders from Italy. Stjepan if you sent them and I've misplaced them, please let me know.

Because of this I am unable to show Italy's units or allow him retreats, as RP automatically disbands units after an nmr. I'm not sure what to do about this, as I cannot edit the map either without simply starting from scratch.

ANYHOW, by my rules Italy is allowed to retreat both Trieste and Bulgaria. I am working on this problem and will figure something out, but Stjepan you can assume that both your armies still exist, and please send me retreats.

England also has a retreat due.

I'm going to allow until Friday night for retreats. Friday, March 20th, 22:00 MST.

DC 217, End game proposal - Slangers   (Feb 27, 2009, 3:53 am)
OK Drew- thanks setting me a challenge. This is going to get bloody folks. I suggest you evacuate civilians from the following areas, because the Russians are coming: Trieste, Greece, Bulgaria, Kiel, Holland, Edinburgh, London, Belgium.

I only need to secure 2 centres from that list of 8 targets.

There is a proposal to end the game.

The proposed victory condition are:
Russia, solo victory

All active players have a vote, and the vote must be unanimous (am I spelling this right?). If you don't vote then it is considered a no. We follow the house rules... found here:

http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/info.php?type=houserules

Votes are due with Fall, in one week. As always, if orders are all clearly marked as final, I can adjudicate early.

DC 217, Spring deadline - alwayshunted   (Feb 26, 2009, 2:14 pm)
Hi everyone. Your tardy GM here. As some of you may have realized, my work occasionally surprises me with road trips and extremely busy days.... and nights. I was called away on Tuesday morning to a remote area, with limited access, and have just been very busy. I'm in the office now for a few hours, then hitting the road again to another town... BUT, I will have internet in my hotel where I am going.

My sincere apologies for the delay. I will get out the turn tonight sometime from my hotel, and then hopefully get back into a regular pattern.

Thanks for your patience!

Hey all,

Winter is due in about 5 hours, however, I will be away from a computer until very late tonight. I may get the turn out late tonight.... I may not, but you will definitely get it before Monday.

Remember that my rule on deadlines allows you to make changes up until the point where I begin the adjudication.

Have a great weekend everyone.

LOTS of changes, so lots of adjustments this year. See the bottom of the adjudication for details. I'll expect orders by Friday night my time... see below.

Onward we go.....

.ExternalClass .EC_hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} Hey all, sorry about that little disappearing act. I'm now back in the land of internet.

One of the players has asked me to set a new deadline once I got back from never never land so they can be clear that orders have been received and confirmed and all that. I don't have a problem with it, so I'll be accepting orders and changes until tomorrow night at 10 pm my time. Actually I will be home quite late... so don't expect and adjudication until about 1 am on Thursday morning. That's Mountain Standard.

No need to send new ones unless you want to change them. I'll be sending confirmations out to all that I've got from in the next hour or so.

Sorry again....
