DC 218 SHIFT LEFT: I'm out of this 1 - FlapJack   (Dec 22, 2008, 11:21 am)
so in other words..the game is fine but the players need to play a particular way?....maybe the game just isn't that great if takes five players playing a certain way for the game to be any good...just a thought..

On top of a game with a very slow start some of the openings have just handed this 1 to France so why waste more time? Worst SL I have ever seen. He can't lose if he just stops negotiating & moves ahead. Russian moves that should have had R elim or at 1 in 03 + no interdiction at all. No interdiction by T & still not going to get home if that's the goal. Italy not lined up to intedict. Can't do end runs around & let people through. F even made the 1 move he can't make with out making an implacable foe (also can't benefit from it) but it doesn't matter because most players are refusing to play SL & are instead making up thier own game,. Give me the abandon shame - can't stomach this any more. Great scenario if played properly.

I am hoping Michael will continue on in this and will not be seeking a replacement
at this time. I am going to set the deadline for 12/26 at 2100 EST. I *know* this
is the day after Christmas so if that deadline does not work just let me know and I
can extend it.

There are no retreats needed so we move straight to fall. Any questions or errors
just let me know.

Mike and I have had brief discussions about the rights and wrongs of our strategy, so I'm not going to get into details. But there are some pretty strong players in this game, and half of them are just as close to home as me. Regardless of that, I'd say you just have a more innovative approach to the variant than most. I treat the variant as a fun twist on the regular game, but still assess the best tactic for success to be running for home rather than staying put. Anyone's approach to a variant is valid and ultimately tested by results.regards,Stephen

Of course, the other possibility is that he is just a better diplomat than you are
and they are listening to him rather than to you.

DC 218 SHIFT LEFT: Delay of game - packrat   (Dec 20, 2008, 6:23 pm)
I am missing the orders from one player and since I did not announce the
deadline was approaching I am going to extend the deadline. Since the
player in question never provided me with his weekend availability I have
to assume he does NOT have weekend access.

I will adjudicate Monday night at 2100 EST with what I have.
Actually, I have put all the orders into RP except the missing
set so I am just about set to go.

Gee, I don't know about that idea.... You know, the
moral dilemma of GM-to-player transition, the potential of
players already having revealed sensitive information to
you, the fact that I signed up to play for Packrat, not
against Packrat... These are important considerations,
especially the last!

Okay folks, Elise is just to loaded down with work at
school.  I'm
not sure why, but they have loaded the kids up pretty good.

I am going to need a replacement for the English player.

Now, I have an idea that might work to make this go a bit
faster but
I have to run it by all of you first.

I am guessing I can get someone to GM and I will take
Elise's place
AFTER this season is adjudicated.  Trout, can you submit
orders for
Elise (England) and then take over as GM and I will take
over as England?
Unless, of course, you want to play England.

Lets see what Trout says so I know what my options are.

Sorry for the delay guys and thanks to Andy for kicking me in the head and reminding me.

Turkey disbands his fleet Holland. Yes, He had the disband in on time; the delay was my bad.

We move to Spring 1902.

Lets have those in for 12/10/08.

Just a follow up -
The family and I wound up staying in northern Wisconsin due
to snow
storms so we will all be leaving later today and heading
home. I have all
the orders and have loaded them into Realpolitik but since
not all of them
are marked final I cannot process and post the results.

Depending on the ride home and how long it takes I may not
get them out
tonight. If not, they will go out Tuesday.

However, if I do get final indications before 11AM CST I
may be able to get
them out today.

Orders are due in 31 hours - I am missing two sets - if you don't have
a receipt, I don't have your orders.

Now, please be aware that if you send me an email asking "You

Just a follow up -
The family and I wound up staying in northern Wisconsin due
to snow
storms so we will all be leaving later today and heading
home. I have all
the orders and have loaded them into Realpolitik but since
not all of them
are marked final I cannot process and post the results.

Depending on the ride home and how long it takes I may not
get them out
tonight. If not, they will go out Tuesday.

However, if I do get final indications before 11AM CST I
may be able to get
them out today.

Unfortunately I do not have the time to put into a game as anything
other than the GM. But thanks for the offer.

I *really* love this variant and I would almost rather play
than GM, maybe next game.

How this variant unfolds is always an interesting thing to
watch.

Alright folks - I am assuming none of you have heard from the English player and since I have not
I suppose it doesn't matter if you have or not.

So:
BAD news:
No English player so I need a replacement.

GOOD News:
My daughter Elise has offered to step in and play as England.

That being said I am going to reset the deadline to 11/17/08 at 2100. If you want to
mark your orders as FINAL please do so and I will go before the 17 if I have all 7
marked that way.

GAME ON!
