DC269 Fall 1903 - Viper   (Sep 26, 2009, 1:06 am)
Well, the draw proposal failed to receive unanimous consent, so the game forges on. One note before we move on. Some of you apologized for sending in a number of sets of orders. I'd rather see that than have one final set near the deadline. Some orders make me a lot more comfortable even if they change later on. Another thing, though, is that it makes it a LOT easier on me if, when you change a single move, you resubmit all your moves. That way I don't have to fish through a number of emails to patch your moves together. A lot of GMs won't even do that.

Now, on to the turn: Not a whole lot of units actually moved around this turn, but a lot happened, so here are your moves:

Austria:
F Ionian Sea - Albania (*fails*)
A Trieste Supports A Bohemia - Vienna
A Venice Supports A Trieste

England:
F Edinburgh - Norwegian Sea (*bounce*)
A York Holds
F Holland - Belgium
A Kiel Supports F North Sea - Denmark (*cut*)
F North Sea - Denmark (*fails*)
A Munich Supports A Kiel

France:
A Picardy Supports F Holland - Belgium
A Burgundy Supports F Holland - Belgium
A Piedmont Holds
F North Atlantic Supports F Edinburgh - Norwegian Sea

Germany:
F Belgium - Holland (*dislodged*)
A Ruhr - Kiel (*fails*)
A Denmark Supports A Ruhr - Kiel (*cut*)

Italy:
F Eastern Mediterranean - Ionian Sea (*fails*)
A Tuscany - Rome (*bounce*)
A Bohemia - Vienna
A Silesia - Berlin

Russia:
F Barents Sea - Norwegian Sea (*bounce*)
F Norway Supports F Barents Sea - Norwegian Sea
F Skagarrak - North Sea (*fails*)
A Warsaw Supports A Galicia

A Serbia Supports A Greece - Albania
F Black Sea - Rumania

Turkey:
A Greece - Albania
F Aegean Sea - Greece
A Bulgaria Supports F Aegean Sea - Greece
F Constantinople - Aegean Sea
F Smyrna Supports F Constantinople - Aegean Sea

Retreats: Germany's F Belgium may retreat to English Channel or OTB. Please confirm the move to English Channel or advise me differently by Tuesday, noon CDT. If you let me know earlier, we'll move on more quickly.

please eric, you are the only one who has to send in a retreat. please do it ASAP. This game has gone on WAY TOO LONG.

Everyone, can we please not take the entire time given? Can we please pick-up the pace?

Right. I'm sorry. I've told a few of you of the upcoming draw proposal and good thing too, because I would've completely forgotten.

Together with the Summer 03 Adjudication, we also have a draw proposal in which Turkey and Russia would be awarded a two-way draw and the rest would be given survivals. In order to pass, the proposal needs unanimous support. So, with your Fall 1903 orders, please also advise me on how you feel about the draw. A simple "yes" or "no" will do. If any player votes "no" the game continues. Also, if anyone does not vote, a "no" is assumed. That's how EOG proposals work.

Now, if the proposal is passed, I will not be revealing anyone's moves for the season. If the vote fails, I'll let you know and the moves will be adjudicated as usual. So please send me both your moves AND your vote. All votes will be kept confidential, even after the game is completed.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the map until Sunday, so you won't see it until then.  As such, we'll have to delay the next season a little.

Next Deadline: Fall 03 will be due Friday, September 25, noon CDT.

If, however, I get orders marked "final" from everyone before that, I will adjudicate.

I'm sorry guys... sometimes a player has a busy week and can't get around to corresponding with everyone. In those turns, they do their best to act in their best interests and submit their moves. Replaying a turn is not an option, so I suggest you move forward from here and make the best of the situation. Perhaps some creative bargaining is necessary and some of you might have to take risks you don't want to... that's all part of the game.

At this point I'm looking for retreats from Germany and I'm ready to move on.

All,

Rather than ending the game, I’d like to propose we play the last turn again on the grounds that Austria did not participate in it in good faith because of his test and term paper due earlier today, a claim he himself raised in this evening’s correspondence. I believe that I have as much to lose from a replay of the turn as anyone. Yet I also believe that a replay of the turn is the only way to keep a majority of us who have now been playing this game for a couple of months from losing interest in it, not so much because of Austria’s orders but because of the way he failed to communicate with at least 4 of us throughout the entire turn.

Does anyone second my proposal?

David

Just so everyone knows, the game is not officially over (nor do I think it's an inevitable juggernaut... but I always think things can chance). What we'll do is with the summer retreat there will be a proposal to end the game. I'll explain more about that when it happens, but for now I just want to see Germany's retreats. We'll figure the rest of it out after that.

As far as I am concerned, the game is over. Russia suckered Austria into believing he had a chance to to earn a draw with them and Austria bit into the apple. Austria got played perfectly -- like Russia's puppet. The game is over. Italy cannot trust Austria and if the Austrians continue to advance, they will have no home centers to build. Dumb move on Austria's part ... in my opinion -- he handed the game over the Juggernaut -- it did end the game very quickly.

Hey... thanks everyone for getting your orders in on time. It's nice to be able to adjudicate within an hour of the deadline. We have some interesting situations developing here as the alliances appear to be taking shape. What will the future hold? We'll see soon enough!

I'm going to need two retreat orders from Germany. One is already reflected on the map (Kiel - Denmark) since it was the only option for that unit. The other (North Sea) has a number of intriguing options.

Austria:
F Ionian Sea Holds
A Trieste - Venice
A Vienna - Trieste

England:
F London - North Sea
F Edinburgh Supports F London - North Sea
A Liverpool - York
F Holland - Kiel
A Munich Supports F Holland - Kiel
F Belgium - Holland

France:
A Burgundy - Ruhr (*fails*)
A Paris - Picardy
F North Atlantic Ocean - Norwegian Sea (*bounce*)
A Marseilles - Piedmont
F Tyrrhenian Sea Convoys A Tuscany - Syria

Germany:
F North Sea - Edinburgh (*dislodged*)
A Kiel - Berlin (*dislodged*)
A Ruhr - Kiel (*fails*)

Italy:
A Tuscany - Syria (*fails*)
F Eastern Mediterranean Convoys A Tuscany - Syria
A Tyrolia - Bohemia
A Silesia - Berlin (*bounce*)

Russia:
F St. Petersburg - Barents Sea
F Norway - Norwegian Sea (*bounce*)
F Sweden - Skagarrak
A Rumania - Serbia
A Budapest Supports A Rumania - Serbia
A Galicia Supports A Budapest
A Warsaw Supports A Galicia
F Black Sea Holds

Turkey:
A Greece Holds
A Bulgaria Supports A Greece
F Aegean Sea Supports A Greece
F Constantinople Holds
F Smyrna Supports F Aegean Sea

Retreats:
Germany's F North Sea may retreat to Denmark, Helgoland Bight, English Channel, Belgium or OTB.
Germany's A Kiel may retreat to Denmark or OTB.

Next Deadline: Summer retreats due Thursday, Sept 17, noon CDT, but I'll send it out as soon as Germany lets me know.

DC269 - Autumn 1902 - Viper   (Sep 03, 2009, 9:45 am)
OK, so it seems I have some explaining to do here. Sending in your orders for retreats is just as important as spring or fall. I don't know if I haven't been clear in saying that I need people with retreats to submit them, but without that I have to assume a disband. It's right there in the house rules. Please, if you have a retreat, take the half-minute it requires to send me your wishes.

That being said, here are the retreats from this season:

Austria:
A Budapest - Trieste

Germany:
A Holland - Ruhr

Italy:
A Munich - Silesia

So that takes us into a winter phase where some of you will be building and others will need to disband. Here are the statistics:

Austria: 3 sc's - 5 units = 2 disbands
England: 6 sc's - 4 units = 2 builds
France: 5 sc's - 5 units = even
Germany: 3 sc's - 4 units = 1 disband
Italy: 4 sc's - 4 units = even
Russia: 8 sc's - 6 units = 2 builds
Turkey: 5 sc's - 4 units = 1 build

I already have some of your winter adjustments in, which I like a lot. As usual, I will give you two days to submit your adjustments, so they will be due on Saturday, Sept 5, noon CDT. It does not take much time to figure out your builds, so I hope to see them rolling in today and tomorrow. After that we can get to the more enjoyable spring season.

mvp

ps. Since all the retreats were taken, no new map is needed. Use the same one you got from me before.

Now wasn't that an interesting turn? Everything from the creation of a very multicultural Mediterranean Sea to one of our players trying to order around someone else's unit (by accident?). After all is said and done we have a whopping three retreats needed. Please see the end of the adjudication for those details.

Your moves...

Austria:
A Budapest - Serbia (*dislodged*)
A Vienna Holds
A Serbia - Greece (*fails*)
F Adriatic Sea - Ionian Sea
F Albania Supports A Serbia - Greece

England:
F Edinburgh - North Sea (*fails*)
F Helgoland Bight - Holland
F Belgium Supports F Helgoland Bight - Holland
A Ruhr - Munich

France:
A Burgundy Supports A Ruhr - Munich
A Paris Supports A Burgundy
F Gulf of Lyons - Tyrrhenian Sea
A Piedmont Holds (*invalid*)
F Mid-Atlantic Ocean - North Atlantic Ocean

Germany:
F Denmark - North Sea
A Holland - Kiel (*dislodged*)

DC269 - Fall 1902 Delay - Viper   (Aug 28, 2009, 3:33 pm)
Hey guys... I'm still short one set of orders. This means the player who has missed this deadline is using up his one-time 24 hour grace period. I will give until this time tomorrow for the missing set to be entered. The rest of you may still change any orders you wish until then (4:30pm CDT).

Fall 1902 reminder - Viper   (Aug 28, 2009, 8:50 am)
Hey there guys... we're about 3 hrs from the deadline and I'm missing a couple of sets. Most of you did send me prelims, so it's getting better and better all the time. I really hope I can get an adjudication done by this evening because I'll be busy all weekend playing ultimate frisbee (it's our championship weekend).

Hope to hear from you soon!

DC269 - The Map is Faulty! - Viper   (Aug 23, 2009, 5:05 pm)
Hey guys... it was just pointed out to me that the map I've been using for this game is missing the space "Skaggerak." It's a sea space that borders Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the North Sea. I'll fix that once I get a chance. Sorry for any confusion that may have caused.

DC269 - Summer 1902 - Viper   (Aug 23, 2009, 1:50 pm)
The retreat order is in and Austria has chosen to leave the fleet in Albania. And so we move on to the fall. There is no need for a new map, because nothing has changed.

Austria:
F Greece - Albania

Next Deadline:
Fall 1902 orders are due on Friday, August 28, at noon CDT.

ps. please submit preliminary orders so that we're ready to go when the deadline hits.

DC269 - Retreats - Viper   (Aug 22, 2009, 10:36 am)
Hey guys... so, I just realized that this is the first case where a retreat is necessary and I haven't really explained how retreats generally work. So here goes:

When I prepare the map, and there are retreats necessary, I will do one of two things:

1) If the unit has more than one place it can go, I will simply take the unit off the board while the player needing to retreat makes his choice.

2) If there is only one place for the unit to go, I will move the unit there, but the player in charge of that unit still needs to confirm that they want to retreat (because off the board is an option).

So, if, during the course of the game, you need to retreat, please do so. If no retreat is received, the assumption is off the board (so you will lose that unit).

DC269 - Spring 1902 - Viper   (Aug 20, 2009, 10:17 pm)
Alright guys... this turn is now done. I would like to stress, once again, the value of preliminary moves. I'm going to give everyone a mulligan on this one. From now on, however, if your moves aren't in by the deadline, I will register an NMR. I may still take your moves, but I'll have to put it into the stats as such.

Now the moves. A very interesting turn, to say the least. Interestingly enough, most of your moves succeeded, with only a few units facing failure. We do have one retreat due, from Austria, but more on that to come.

Thanks to everyone for making your moves clear... they are very easy to understand.

Austria:
A Serbia - Bulgaria (*fails*)
F Greece Supports A Serbia - Bulgaria (*dislodged*)
F Trieste - Adriatic Sea
A Vienna Holds
A Budapest Holds

England:
A Belgium - Ruhr
F English Channel - Belgium
F North Sea - Helgoland Bight
F Edinburgh - North Sea (*bounce*)

France:
A Burgundy Supports A Belgium - Ruhr
F Portugal - Mid-Atlantic Ocean
F Marseilles - Gulf of Lyons
A Spain - Marseilles
A Paris Supports A Burgundy

Germany:
F Denmark - North Sea (*bounce*)
A Munich - Bohemia
A Ruhr - Holland
A Kiel Supports A Ruhr - Holland

Italy:
A Tyrolia - Munich
A Venice - Tyrolia
A Piedmont Supports A Venice - Tyrolia
F Tunis - Ionian Sea

Russia:
F St. Petersburg - Norway
F Sweden Supports F St. Petersburg - Norway
A Rumania - Serbia (*fails*)
F Black Sea Supports A Constantinople - Bulgaria
A Galicia Holds
A Warsaw Supports A Galicia

Turkey:
A Bulgaria - Greece
F Aegean Sea Supports A Bulgaria - Greece
A Constantinople - Bulgaria
F Smyrna - Constantinople

Next Deadline:
We need a retreat from Austria's F Greece, which may retreat to Albania or OTB (off the board... he may choose to disband it). That will be due on Saturday, August 22, at noon CDT.

Spring 1902 - FLTeacher   (Aug 19, 2009, 8:14 pm)
I am one of the NMRed players. Sry. I think 5 days is still WAY TOO LONG and no one keeps up on the communication because they say, "I have 5 days to play this turn -- I will check on it tomorrow." And we all know that because of the lack of urgency tomorrow never comes.

Anyway, I am sending in my moves pronto ...

Gents,

A Little input from your observer/resource; As soon as you get teh adjudication for a turn, send in prelim orders. That way you won't suffer any Nmr's (usually), and it's a big help for any GM. Just putting that out there.

Hey there guys... so, the deadline for spring moves comes in 10 minutes and I have a grand total of one set... and that doesn't include the players who asked me to speed up the game.  I don't think five days is particularly quick, but if you don't have a chance in those five days to do a little email diplomacy, it's possible to ask for an extention.  Now, I guess I'll be granting everyone the extention here because just about all of you need it.  So, we'll try for the same time tomorrow.  Unfortunately, I won't have a chance to adjudicate until pretty late in the evening tomorrow and even that isn't a guarantee, but please try to get your moves in by noon CDT tomorrow.
