277 spain EGS - psychosis1973   (Apr 13, 2010, 6:23 am)
I think Mick had too many fleets in the Med for any attempt to take him out by naval power alone to be realistic...whether they were spanish fleets or french fleets is immaterial

Quick one
for me, I'll reply to Michael's since it was the
most relevant to my short existence...

He's
right on that Britain sold the farm to attack me.
Andrew told me pretty honestly that he was set on going for
me no matter what, which was disappointing coming from such
a reputable player.  A closed door policy usually gets
you nowhere in this game, and it got us both
eliminated.  I take solace in Britain being
eliminated too.  Good game all, particularly Michael
for being ready to capitalize on the board dynamics to
wipe out two players, and the others for locking down a
draw.  Of course it was perfectly GM'd for the
short while that I was in it!  Michael - perhaps a Spain working for you vs
Egypt might have made some impact?

Anyways, 0 for 2 in
Modern, definitely not my variant...

I echo comments
about the GM - well done Alan!!

Interesting game, albeit it died a bit of a death towards
the end. The game started for me with Britain offering the
world if I joined him in attacking Spain. As Spain was the
most notorious player on the site, I quickly decided to go
with this, making a peace with Italy and Germany, my other
nearest neighbours. The campaign against Spain went well but
Germany and Italy started getting twitchy and turned on
me...I managed to hold them off until Spain was finished, at
which point the original British player left the game.
Fortunately, it was around then that German and Italy were
being pressured from the east, so they both wanted to cut a
deal with me, and as a consequence I chose to go after the
new British player, with a good degree of success. This put
me in a good position to stab Germany and Italy - somewhat
bizarrely, this was shortly followed by an offer from the
German player to cede most of his centres to me in return
for a survival and allowing him to go after/frustrate Poland
- I'm not sure what went on there in the early part of
the game, but Isaac was clearly pissed at Joey!

Overall, I guess I could have made a run at a solo - I made
a superficial attempt with a limited stab of Poland -
however a solo would have been very unlikely - there was no
way I could have taken on both Egypt and Poland and I was
rapidly reaching a stalemate against Poland anyway.

I think I was lucky in the game in having a strong,
determined early ally, and the other subsequent twists and
turns in the game fell kindly for me.

Thanks to the other players - hope to see you in future
games!

Dc 277: All We are saying.. - FlapJack   (Apr 11, 2010, 11:22 am)
I came in--saw a pretty strong F/G alliance so I thought I'd work with Germany up north, which is how I was set up, but Germany choose to do a very good stab and that was game, set, match for me. I would have liked to have hung around longer but since F/G weren't willing to work with me there wasn't much more I could do anyway as the UK position was over committed to Scandinavia when I came in.

Thanks for GMing, congratulations to the winners and I'll be happy to stand by with any of you again.

Thanks Alan for GM'ing - well done .

The game started out very well for me , I managed to grow very well and fast . Once all the vacant SC near me were taken I had to decide where to go - I chose France as I saw  him as the greater threat.
Unfortunately the British wouldn't join me so the attack was developing slowly - too slow.
In mid of this the British player was replaced and decided to attack me with Poland.
Once that happened I tried to get a truce with France - since fighting 3 fronts at once was a bit too much for me.
I tried to hold ground against Poland while taking out Britain, this went well till France stabbed me.
Obviously I couldn't fight both Poland and France together , so I decided to let France take whatever he wants while fighting
Poland as I saw him to be the first offender.and so shouldn't be awarded for his offence.
All in all I believe I achieved my goal - Britain was taken over(and out) and then handed over to France and Poland didn't advanced much while France grew very fast.
All in all I would have preferred to be in a better position but hadn't much choice here.

Hope to do better on the next one .( or the one after that Smile ).

I too salute Alan, job well done!

I got a good deal with Joey initially, and that stuck throughout the game. My part boiled down into pretty much nothing towards the end, so this kind of draw was probably the best I could hope for. I was slightly worried that I would get sidwinded by a combination of Poland and Egypt, but France surging ahead made that pretty unlikely.

Nice game, though the amount of communication did drop dramatically the last few years.

it was kind of a strange game, started out with a lot of action and negotiation, then once a few of the players were eliminated and a stalemate between poland ukraine egypt and france was obvious, the negotiation pretty much stopped because i think everyone was expecting the eog proposals to pass easily.

then the french turned on me, and if mike would have waited maybe two more turns i probably would have had half my units moved from the border because i was getting ready to help mikael fight mick. then even stranger, mick and i became allies trying to stop mike from getting a solo.

i am kind of disappointed, i think the fight between us four would have been pretty exciting, but i am also glad because i was getting relly paranoid about mikael and mike, and still worried about mike in france.

good game though to all players, looking forward to playing with some of you again.

it was kind of a strange game, started out with a lot of action and negotiation, then once a few of the players were eliminated and a stalemate between poland ukraine egypt and france was obvious, the negotiation pretty much stopped because i think everyone was expecting the eog proposals to pass easily.

then the french turned on me, and if mike would have waited maybe two more turns i probably would have had half my units moved from the border because i was getting ready to help mikael fight mick. then even stranger, mick and i became allies trying to stop mike from getting a solo.

i am kind of disappointed, i think the fight between us four would have been pretty exciting, but i am also glad because i was getting relly paranoid about mikael and mike, and still worried about mike in france.

good game though to all players, looking forward to playing with some of you again.

I echo comments about the GM - well done Alan!!

Interesting game, albeit it died a bit of a death towards the end. The game started for me with Britain offering the world if I joined him in attacking Spain. As Spain was the most notorious player on the site, I quickly decided to go with this, making a peace with Italy and Germany, my other nearest neighbours. The campaign against Spain went well but Germany and Italy started getting twitchy and turned on me...I managed to hold them off until Spain was finished, at which point the original British player left the game. Fortunately, it was around then that German and Italy were being pressured from the east, so they both wanted to cut a deal with me, and as a consequence I chose to go after the new British player, with a good degree of success. This put me in a good position to stab Germany and Italy - somewhat bizarrely, this was shortly followed by an offer from the German player to cede most of his centres to me in return for a survival and allowing him to go after/frustrate Poland - I'm not sure what went on there in the early part of the game, but Isaac was clearly pissed at Joey!

Overall, I guess I could have made a run at a solo - I made a superficial attempt with a limited stab of Poland - however a solo would have been very unlikely - there was no way I could have taken on both Egypt and Poland and I was rapidly reaching a stalemate against Poland anyway.

I think I was lucky in the game in having a strong, determined early ally, and the other subsequent twists and turns in the game fell kindly for me.

Thanks to the other players - hope to see you in future games!

Michael

I think I was lucky in the game in having a strong, determined early ally, and the other subsequent twists and turns in the game fell kindly for me.

Thanks to the other players - hope to see you in future games!

Michael

I too salute Alan, job well done!

I got a good deal with Joey initially, and that stuck throughout the game. My part boiled down into pretty much nothing towards the end, so this kind of draw was probably the best I could hope for. I was slightly worried that I would get sidwinded by a combination of Poland and Egypt, but France surging ahead made that pretty unlikely.

Nice game, though the amount of communication did drop dramatically the last few years.

dang. i would like to thank everyone who participated for a great game, especially Alan for running it!

it was kind of a strange game, started out with a lot of action and negotiation, then once a few of the players were eliminated and a stalemate between poland ukraine egypt and france was obvious, the negotiation pretty much stopped because i think everyone was expecting the eog proposals to pass easily.

then the french turned on me, and if mike would have waited maybe two more turns i probably would have had half my units moved from the border because i was getting ready to help mikael fight mick. then even stranger, mick and i became allies trying to stop mike from getting a solo.

i am kind of disappointed, i think the fight between us four would have been pretty exciting, but i am also glad because i was getting relly paranoid about mikael and mike, and still worried about mike in france.

good game though to all players, looking forward to playing with some of you again.

All we are saying is give peace a chance.  Its been 12 years since Modern Europe has fallen under the black cloud of war, and today those clouds have finally lifted.

A Four way draw is shared between les Frenchman, Michael Thompson, the Pole Joey Pedicini, The Ukrainian Mikael Johansson, and the Egyptian Mick Cox.

This was a great game to run -- only a few missing orders throughout the entire game and the interest was pretty high throughout the whole thing.  I'd still like to see Michael Thompson try to go for the solo but its too late for that now.  I'd like to see end of game statements from all the players, if at all possible.

I hope to see all of you again

Dc 277: Reminder - AlanRFarrington   (Mar 18, 2010, 5:54 pm)
Just a reminder that Orders are officially due 7 minutes from now. I'm headed to Volleyball practice at the moment, however, and don't have time to put the adjudication out. That means you have an extra hour and a half to get any last minute orders and votes in. Remember: Failure to vote is the same as a "No" vote!
