Newsletter - October 26th - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey everyone,

Okay - it's not newsletter number 3 at all, but i've not kept track
of them so i figured i might as well have called a random numnber.
How we all doing? This is more a "action packed full of news"
newsletter so i'm dropping some of my favourite segments this week.

(1) Changing of the Guard.
Yes, for those of you who have been paying attention or possibley
might have spoken to Mike or myself, the DC have changed again. Old
man Tony and young(ish) official Kevin has had real life creeping in
on them, and have stepped down from DC Moderatorship. They are
leaving some big shoes to fill and I know that Mike and I were sorry
to see them go. They both will still be active in the club.

So those big shoes I mentioned.. well newcomer but experienced player
and Gm.. Mr Former Trout (from Canada) has been asked to step up into
the role and he has accepted. I wanted a beautiful bikini clad young
(ish) American girl for the role but Mike (i guess being married)
said we should get someone who can help with the workload as well as
bring that extra touch to Dc. Looking at it that way, Trout was an
obvious choice for the job. Not only does he GM many interesting
games in DC, he has brought us the Companions, the Light Brigade and
if full of new found shiny Canadian ideals. So on behalf of Mike and
myself we thank Tony and Kevin for all of their hardwork over the
years and we Thank Trout for stepping up to plate and dealing with
diplomacy addict mental cases like Sims and myself.

2) Live Game.
It;s tomorrow at 7am my time. That's 2 pm Pacific Time to all your
American people.. There's currently 7 players signed up but it's
always good to have more... its not problem to increase the game size
that we play.. so if you are interested.. contact Mike at
mike(at)southwall.com

3) DC Winter Blitz.
The first ever DC Tournament is now open and recruiting. It's going
to run during january and we would love to know what people think? So
check it out at www.diplomaticcorp.com and let us know your thoughts.

4) End of Game Statements.
We would love to see more statements from players at the end of a
game, so since I am often lax in this area myself i though i might
offer some words of wisdom on this task to our newer players (and
perhaps our older more experienced players can chip in with some
wisdom..)

An end of game statement, does not need to be long or wordy but it is
nice to hear about how you played the game and what your thoughts
were. If you are eliminated early in a game, write your statement
straight away and send to the GM to be posted after the game has
finished. This means the game is fresh in your mind. Every few game
years, 2-3 perhaps, jot down a few notes about what strategies you
used, who you are allied with, what your plan is for the future.
These notes can jog your memory when it comes to writing the
statement.

5) Mini competition.
Just for fun, A small but public acknowledgment will be given to the
first person who can tell me the answer to this question.. all the
information is found on www.diplomaticcorp.com

which player has exactly 112 merits? (if you want to know what merits
are, email former.trout(at)gmail.com) - clue.. I met have met this
person in London, a number of years ago.

Where is description of Gunboat Variant - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi Clagr,

Gunboat is kindof a generic term. It is any game where the identities of the players are known only to the GM. Communication between players might be allowed by the GM through press, or there could be no communication allowed between players at all.

You could have a Gunboat Standard game, for example. Or a Gunboat Modern game. There is no specific map for Gunboat, it can be applied to any variant. The only thing is that nobody knows who is playing what position, asides from the GM.

Just drop me an email if that doesn't answer your question, though. Cheers,

Trout

DC-114 Spring 1903 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Exciting turn, all you know what has broken out in the East. The pandemonium remained polite as there are only two dislodges. The German army in Belgium is disbanded and the Austrian army in Romania can retreat to either Bulgaria, Sevastopol or OTB. I cannot remember the last time a unit dislodged in Romania had that retreat option. Austria, if you can get that retreat to me ASAP we can start Fall 1903. Picture is up on the website

Pandemonium Variant - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey guys,

During conversations with Jason, an neat idea for a variant came up. What if you were allowed to build anywhere except in centers that YOU control?

The result would be... Pandemonium.

Standard rules would apply other than builds. Also, SC ownership count would take place immediately before the builds. Therefore, building in a SC does not get you ownership of that center unless you can hold it for a year.

I'd be looking for 7 players to playtest this sucker. Let me know if you're interested.

New GMs Wanted! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
There are currently 11 GMs running 25 active games, and standards filling all the time. Remember dc games run entirely based on volunteer help from the community… If you’d like to try GMing a game, give a shout. I’d say it takes less than 30 min per week to run a good standard game – much less effort than being a player in a similar game…

Imperial1840 game - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
To the folks who have signed up for the next World game, it's being put
on hold for a bit, and will be replaced at the moment by another huge
world map, Imperial1840... Designed by Master Cartographer Jerry Todd,
we are honored to have this original variant be run here in DC.

www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=re004

If you'd like to join, you can find it at re004, however I won't put you
in by default as it's a totally different game.

We're expecting the 17-player World will be reactivated after this
Imperial game starts, later in the year. I'll keep this list of names
and send out an update if/when it does. If there is continued interest
in the World game, let me or Steve know...

Variant Games Seeking Players - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi folks,

We still have quite an exciting line-up of variant games awaiting players to sign up before they can launch. These variant games are an exciting part of Diplomaticcorp, and I promise that you won't regret signing up for any of them. =)

We have multiple flavors on tap. Two playtests of brand new variants which have never been seen before include:

re006 - Wheel of Time / Robert Jordan variant playtest
The Wheel weaves as the Wheel will - but you can help it get started by signing up to be the seventh player in this game based on the classic Robert Jordan series. Quite a bit of the flavor of the books are captured in the variant rules, and this game looks like a promising one.

re004 - 1840 Imperial variant playtest
A slimmed down version of the insanely huge Imperial variant currently firing on all cylinders in DC-110, this version was created by DC's very own Jerry Todd. The map looks amazing, the game looks exciting, and we only need 3 more players before all systems are go.

Our other two variants being offered up are from everyone's favorite GM Felix.

re003 - Modern with Wings. Ever been playing and said something along the lines of 'This game would kick ass with airplane units.' Felix has you covered and needs 4 more players to take the plunge in his Wings game.

re002 - Gunboat Standard. Sounds more complicated than it really is - Essentially this is just a fast paced game where only Felix knows who is playing what positions. Builds are allowed on any center you control and, if you're stuck with a pesky fleet when you need an army, transformation rules allow you to change it. This one needs so if you're interested, drop Felix a line.

In addition, we have several more variants waiting for the above games to launch. Be brave, be daring. Play a version of Dip you've never tried before. Who knows - you might like it. =)

Cheers folks!

To Boldly Go... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
A new GM.
A new variant.
By a guy new to making variants.

What could possibly go wrong?

I had some wood around here somewhere.

anyway...

I liked the "flavor" of Imperial, but wanted something a little easier to play. Fewer players, fewer supply centers, standard rules, easier to GM, and a map you didn't mind looking at (I love maps).

So, "Mr Sulu, ahead, warp factor one."

and so it starts finally!!
Press:
Israel to Hungary: the agreement was I would mop up the centers left of Ukraine and I'd leave you alone.  You decided to help yourself to an additional center.  The center I took from you was by accident.  I was expecting to cut support, not move in there.

I have no idea what's happening on the rest of the board.  Being on the opposite side of the world from Erie I can't say I've concerned myself with him.  I don't have any vision cards left.  Tell me/everyone where his units are!  You can't gang up on the leader when you don't know who the leader is.

Israel to Sicily: What's your status?

Sicily to Erie: What can I do to help?

To all players in DC101, 111, 124, and the GMs of DC115 & 117.

This is simply a message to let you all know that I have not disappeared. This is the first chance I've had to sit down at a computer and send an email since Sunday. As I'm sure you're all aware there have been wildfires raging though San Diego this week, and I live in one of the parts that have been hit hardest by the fires; Poway. I'm fine, my home is fine and things are starting to get back to normal. I am sending this email from work... I will be reconnecting my PC at home either tonight or tomorrow at which point I will adjucate my games whose deadlines have passed, and I will send orders for the games which I have not already missed deadlines for.

Please try and bear with me as it will probably be a few more days before I'm ready to dive back 100% into these games.
