D131 "Blood of the Innocent" - The Game... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
By now everyone has received their country. DO NOT INFORM ANYONE OF YOUR COUNTRY.

I honestly dont think it will come to this, but if you inform another player of your counrty i would have to remove you from the game immdediately.

This is also a NO press game so if you have any questions or comments about the game - please direct to me and not to the forum.

First Deadlines
Spring 1901 is due Tuesday 6th November, at 9pm Australian EST.
Fall 1901 is due Friday 9th November, at 9pm Australian EST.
Winter 1901 is due the following Tuesday 13th at 9pm Australian EST (note winter ajdudications will be assemed final upon receipt unless clearly marked prelims)

Dc 113 Grace period France. - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I cannot find moves from France or Turkey.

Since, according to my records - France has not used a grace period with me.. I am giving France 24 hours to submit moves. This also benefits turkey who has used his grace period but now has some extra time to submit moves.

Any other player is welcome to change their moves.

I will adjuducate in 24 hours OR as soon as I recieve french moves, whichever is sooner.

Re: Current Game Deadlines - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)

Hi guys,

Just had a thought tonight. Maybe we could have a field on the active game page for the GM to write down the current game turn and deadline. That might help the players a little.

Minor detail - thought I might as well bring it up though.

Italy welcomes the crew - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
There are some nations yet to admit an Italian ambassador, and to those nations, I warn that you will be then forced to admit the Italian 1st!

Not a bad idea, if you enjoy parades. And flags, and Italy's finest young men marching through your streets.

Maybe your Gross Domestic Product will rise, eh?

That is all!

Hello everybody,

I'll use this thread to introduce myself, since poobaloo did that too. This is my first diplomacy game. I live in Holland, and I study Applied Mathematics there. I'm 17. I played lots of Mafia games on the internet, so I'm familiar with forumgames, and I played Risk in real life so I hope I can learn diplomacy easily. Good luck to y'all!

GM's sought! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
With 15 GMs, 30 games and 166 active players, we are still filling up games… Who wants to GM the next standard? Anybody new who hasn’t tried GM’ing before?

Inverted - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I was bored the other day so I came up w this. It’s IDENTICAL to the standard map and entirely playable as a standard game… except it is completely inverted topologically. The standard map has two unplayable regions… Switzerland, and the “outside”… this map takes the outside to the middle, and Switzerland to the outside, but otherwise is completely equivalent to playing on the standard map.

Inverted - very similar to Circular map - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
It is a funky idea, I have to admit. Its like the Circular topographically equivalent map. (http://www.diplom.org/Online/maps/stdmap.gif)

I've always felt that you lose something when you play on that map though. Maybe I'm just nostalgic about European geography - I don't know...

Inverted - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Definitely an interesting idea, it would be akin in the regular map to any fleet being able to go off the edge and come back on anywhere else. Would totally change the dynamic, as for example Moscow would now have a coast (bordering only switzerlake) but a coast nonetheless. Sev would have two coasts… one on the Black Sea and another on the lake. France can directly attack Russia, and England can directly attack Turkey (via-NAT-Switzerlake- and then any of EMS, Syr, or Arm). Really removes the corner safety aspect of the game. Russia becomes the most vulnerable, since a fleet in that space can hit StP, Mos, or Sev. So much that it’s almost imperative that Russia build a 1st year fleet and take that spot for himself just to keep others out.

Would this one single change eliminate the possibility of stalemate lines?

I know the idea is to have an oddly shaped map play identically to the
Standard map, but I'd personally make one change, and play it as a variant.

I'd make the circular central "outside" passable and a sea province. That
way, your unnamed (on the map) central province, named "Switzerwater",
perhaps, would really serve to facilitate movement through all the water
provinces. Having it as a land province, or as an impassable province
(which makes it equivalent to Standard), kind of blocks things up.

First Moves - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I'm pretty excited to see how these are going to turn out. No matter if it's during a face to face game or a PBEM, waiting to see the first moves always fills me with anticipation more than any other part of the game. Laughing

Even if I get stabbed by my every neighbor, I think I'll still be happy with getting to see the moves. Plus, I'm in college--I can't afford to stress out about this because I'm too busy stressing out over everything else in my life. Smile

Anyway, to re-cap, I'm counting down the hours to tomorrow and good luck to everyone; I hope this winds up being a very enjoyable game.

And if anyone knows anything about calculating the highest frequency and wavelength of an electron based on the allowable energy levels of an atom that it inhabits, I could use some tutoring. Very Happy

WOT game - Hold - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Well I am sorry to say I have had no response from 2 players.
Stephen The Penguin has offered to fill one slot, so we will need one more to get things rolling again.

I am really sorry for this further delay.

Stephen, if you would like to take the Midlands, you can start negotiations now.
We will continue to search for a Lord Captain Commander for the Whitecloaks.

I will keep you all posted as this progresses.

Jason
