DC140 fall 1907 press broadcast - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
As GM, I rarely receive requests to send out press to everyone, but I have indeed received such a message. Remember that I am filling the role of Western Union (or at least an equivalent European telegraph service from 1907), so please keep in mind that this message below does not express my views, only those of the sender.

"Great powers,

The collosus of the East has started its march and will stop at nothing until its goal is reached. Witness the white armies sweaping through europe. Once his occupation of Germany is complete, YOU, crippled by constant war with your neighbour will be unable to break his deadlock. Munich is the territory that is vital to contain Russia, for once its capture is achieved, retaking it will be no small task.
It has saddened me to be forced into defending myself from my former ally England, and it has been also devastating to see two other friends Turkey and Italy escalate into open conflict. While my military strength is lacking in comparison to all of you, I still consider myself able to help our situation through diplomatie. Diplomatie is the name of this game. I therefore wish to publicly forgive England for its past aggressions, sparked by Austrian and Russian poison, and lend them Germany's hand in sign of friendship. It is time for us to unite and stop the petty war that will ultimately result in Russian victory.
Germany is crumbling under Russian aggression, and I call on to YOU all, not for sympathy, but so that we can stop Russia. NO ONE IS SAFE from his gamble, so let us combine our forces in order to stop his march.

Germany"

DC140 "Never Ending Story" spring 1907 r... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Plenty of orders, plus a German NMR, but are there any real changes to the position? England pulls fleets back to the North Sea and NAO, Russia pushes armies southward, while France stays in place. Italy and Turkey swap Greece and Serbia.

Italy has two retreats, but each unit has only one place to go. To keep the game moving, I have taken the liberty of ordering the only valid retreats. Joseph, if for some reason you would rather retreat either or both of those units OTB, please let me know in the next 24 hours.

The fall 1907 deadline will be next Tuesday 4/29 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!

The French President seems to be attending to other matters, and fails to submit orders for his retreat or rebuild. Both England and Italy take their available valid retreats, rather than retreating OTB. England and Turkey add fleets, while Russia builds another army.

Spring 1907 orders will be due next Tuesday 4/22 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!

My apologies if you didn't receive this message on Thursday, it seems that I sent it only to the dc140 forum. Of course, since you all subscribe to that forum, it shouldn't be a real problem... right?

Because the glitch was on my end, I'll give everyone an extra day if necessary. The new deadline for autumn 1906 retreats and winter 1906 adjustments will be Wednesday 4/16 at 3pm Central (US). However, once I receive orders from everyone, I will go ahead and run the turn. Thanks.

Subject: DC140 "Never Ending Story" fall 1906 results!

Once again, lots of action all around the board. This season, many of the attacks succeed.

In the north, England finally succeeds in taking Holland from Germany, while Russia maintains control over the German coastal centers. France consolidates control of the waters west of Great Britain, but sees its advance unit in Silesia pushed out by Tsarist forces from Warsaw.

In the south, Russia reoccupies Budapest and Italy does the same in Serbia. Turkey sets adrift the Italian fleet in Greece, and Russia asserts control of Vienna.

Lots of units are dislodged:
The English F Irish Sea may retreat to Wales or OTB.
The French A Silesia may retreat to Bohemia, Galicia, or OTB.
The German F Holland has no valid retreats and is destroyed.
The Italian A Budapest may retreat to Trieste or OTB.
The Italian F Greece has no valid retreats and is destroyed.

As usual, both the autumn retreats and winter adjustment deadline will be at the same time, Tuesday 4/15 at 3pm Central (US). However, since there are 3 players who have retreats due, I would appreciate it if you could send those in fairly quickly, so that I can post the autumn 1906 results before the winter adjustments are due. Thanks!

Winter 1906 adjustments will be as follows:
England build 1 (build 2 if retreat OTB)
France even (build 1 if retreat OTB)
Italy even (build 1 if retreat OTB)
Russia build 1
Turkey build 1

DC140 "Never Ending Story" spring 1906 r... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
For me, the "Never Ending Story" has become the sickness that keeps going around in our house! Sorry for the delay, I am finally back after a few days of misery.

Do I sense a shift in alliances? Italy boots Russia out of Budapest, but loses Serbia to Turkey. Despite the cut support, Russia does still pick up Vienna. France moves to Silesia, and also pulls back one of his fleets to MAO. England and France again bounce in Norwegian Sea. England occupies Helgoland Bight as Germany sails to a friendly port in Holland. And an Italian fleet sails westward.

The dislodged Russian army in Budapest may retreat to Galicia, Rumania, or OTB. Chicco, your summer 1906 retreat deadline is tomorrow, Tuesday 3/31 at 3pm Central (US).

Thanks for your patience, everyone!

DC140 "Never Ending Story" fall 1905 res... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Once again, plenty of movement orders in the north, but this time, there is some movement. England manages to push the French fleet out of the English Channel, but the King will have one fewer fleet on the board, as the combined efforts of Germany and France scuttle the English fleet in Belgium. In the south, Italy marches into Serbia, while Russia moves unopposed into Budapest with Turkish support. Austria is finally eliminated from the game.

There is one retreat due -- the French F English Channel may retreat to Brest, MAO, or OTB. Kyle, your autumn retreat will be due along with the winter 1905 adjustments.

While Germany gains a center this turn, the Kaiser has no unoccupied home center in which to build. Italy takes control of Serbia but loses Bulgaria to Turkey. And because Turkey suffered a forced disband in the spring, the Sultan gets to rebuild that unit as well.

Both the autumn retreat and winter adjustments will be due Thursday 3/20 at 3pm Central (US). Winter 1905 adjustments are as follows:

France build 1 if retreat OTB, otherwise even
Russia build 1
Turkey build 2

DC140 "Never Ending Story" fall 1907 res... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fall 1907 arrives, and we find that the German press goes for naught, as England and Russia send the Kaiser into exile. Thank you for playing through to the end, Nick.

France sails into the English Channel, and in an interesting twist, England's attempt to sail past the French navy into MAO is bounced by Italy. In the east, Italy and Turkey re-trade Serbia and Greece. While those two fight over the southern Balkans, Russia gains control of Trieste and pushes an army into Tyrolia.

There are a few dislodged units. Both German units are forced to retreat, but they would be automatically removed in the winter anyway. Italy's army in Greece has no valid retreats and is destroyed. The Turkish army in Serbia has only one valid retreat, to Rumania. Davitchenko, to keep the game moving, I will order that retreat now -- if you want to retreat OTB instead, please let me know.

Winter 1907 adjustments will be as follows:
England build 1
France build 1 (a build was waived in 1906)
Russia build 2
Turkey even (build 1 if retreat is changed to OTB)

The winter 1907 adjustment orders will be due Thursday 5/1 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!

Dear players,

Germany was defeated, and although I am out of the game, I am interested in seing how it will unfold. I would like to congratulate you all on your styles of play and on your strategies. I found especially Russia and England to be more than challenging adversaries, eventually being able to completely destroy me. No hard feelings there, you both played very well, and deserve your victory against me.

Although I had numerous allies, one particularly stood out. Kyle, I wish to thank you for your ongoing support. I felt our relationship in this game evolved from a simple alliance, to one of friendship. The rarity of such relationship in this game made it so much more enjoyable.

As for the others, I had fun playing with you and wish you the best.

Russia once again waives builds, using only one of the three available. Elsewhere, England raises two armies, Turkey builds another fleet, and Italy scuttles his fleet in Tunis.

Along with your orders, please cast your vote on an endgame proposal, a 3-way draw among England, Russia, and Turkey, with the other surviving powers ranked by supply centers owned. France makes a bit of a comeback, regaining Marseilles and sacrificing his fleet in Wales to save Brest. Turkey continues to sail toward Tunis, and England gains firm control of the western edge of the board. Meanwhile, it's all quiet on the eastern front.

Two units were dislodged, the French fleet in Wales and the Russian army in Marseilles. Both had no valid retreats and were destroyed, so no autumn retreats are due.

Winter 1909 adjustments, due Tuesday 6/10 at 3pm Central (US), are as follows:
England build 2
Italy remove 1
Russia build 3 (one to replace A Mar and two that were banked)
Turkey build 1

Thanks, everyone!

DC140 "Never Ending Story" spring 1909 r... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I could not locate orders from France, so the French losses are worse than they otherwise might be. England sinks the French fleet in Liverpool and sails into Portugal. Russia continues streaming armies westward, pushing his way into Marseilles and also keeping hold of Burgundy. With no opposition, Italy gains MAO. Meanwhile, Turkey moves into both Greece and Ionian Sea.

Two units are dislodged. The French fleet in Liverpool has no valid retreats and is destroyed. The French army in Marseilles has only one valid retreat, to Spain. To keep the game moving, I will go ahead and issue that retreat order. Kyle, if for some reason you would prefer to retreat OTB, please let me know tomorrow.

Fall 1909 orders will be due next Thursday 6/5 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!

Cory

DC140 "Never Ending Story" winter 1908 a... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sorry for the delay in adjudicating, I have hit a very busy time at work. I could not find build orders from the Tsar, so Russia banks his builds for another year. Is Rasputin to blame?

Spring 1909 orders will be due Thursday 5/29 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!
