DC-174 GAME ENDS - - - - Turkey/England 2 way draw... - bobclam   (Oct 13, 2008, 5:17 pm)
Dear All,

Here's the game from Germany's perspective.

During the early part of the game I was hoping to form an alliance with France, but having heard from other players that France was also seeking alliances with them, I was worried of his true intentions. With this worry, I finally choose England as my ally. This worked extremely well during the early part of the game. I also had a good relationship with Russia. While the French domain was slowly eroded, Austria's demise was much quicker than expected and within two turns the R/T/I alliance completed their campaign. During this time, my agreement with England to maintain a DMZ in the North Sea was slow in coming. Meanwhile Russia began to move troops northwards. All these factors made me feel that Germany was in dangered of being the next natural target for an England/Russia alliance.

I attacked Pete as a pre-emptive measure and seeked support from Turkey and Italy. With Russia significantly weakened, I sought to attack England with the help of Italy who also expressed worried with England's fleet looming over the Mid Atlantic Ocean. Bruce did a fantastic job at repelling the attack but the combined force of German and Italy was making headway. We were close to breaking into England's homeland and Turkey made peace with Russia and started his attack on Italy. With that, Germany was suddenly left to fend off both Russia and England. Bruce and I exchanged a few fun turns at guessing each other's moves and I was making some small progress thanks to a number advantage. The situation turned when I mistyped two moves in one of the turn. From then on Germany slowly lost ground and it was difficult to recover from there.

This was in fact my first game of online diplomacy, though I had played the actual board game a few times. It was a very enlighting and thoroughly enjoyable experience for me. Many thanks to Scott for keeping the game ticking along.

Look forward to playing with you all again.

Bob

DC-174 GAME ENDS - - - - Turkey/England 2 way dra... - coebq   (Oct 10, 2008, 6:49 pm)
All,

I'm stuck in the airport in Manila this morning and don't have the time to bang out my EOG observations. I'll out later this afternoon. But wanted to take a moment to thank everyone in the game and particularly Scott for GMing this one. Well done and very much appreciated.

Best regards.

Bruce

Gentlemen:
I am not sure if it is the custom here or not, but on cat23
we submit to all players an
End Of Game statement with our personal views (views, not
attacks) on how the game
played out and how we saw things unfold.

I invite each of you to submit them to the group if you are
so inclined.

Good game to all of you and thanks for sticking with it and
making my life more or
less easier.

Congratulations to Turkey and England on their joint draw.

DC-174 EOG proposal, SP 1910 orders all due 10/10 - packrat   (Oct 09, 2008, 3:34 pm)
Just a reminder - orders and votes are due in 30 hours. I do not have
all of either.

NO extensions will be granted after the deadline so if you need one you
had better ask for it now.
