Now that Autumn 1902 has passed and we have entered Winter, the colours of the new season have appeared.
Isn't it a nice patchwork?

DC176 - Winter 1902 adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
All builds and disbands have been confirmed.

Russia decided to disband its fleet in Sevastopol, whereas Germany exchanged the Fleet it disbanded in Denmark for an army in Munich.
Meanwhile the naval industry in England had been working overtime to meet the demand for 2 new warships, eh, commercial vessels.
And Italy has strengthened its north with an army in Venice.

Spring 1903 orders are not due until Tuesday May 20 as we skip a week because of my absence.
Happy diploming in the meantime!

DC176 - Spring 1903 - Reminder - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Yes, I'm back.
And with less than 24 hrs to go until the Spring 1903 deadline I have
only received two sets of orders.
Make sure I have your orders by 23.00 GMT on Tuesday or risk loosing
the opportunity of a lifetime.
With last week, you should have had plenty of time for exchanging
strategies and negotiations.
Oh, what opportunity? To make it to the Hall of Fame of DC176, of course!

*** APOLOGIES: previous message had incorrect set of orders ***

*** Please check the orders below. Although I checked it thrice now, mistakes like earlier may always slip in ***

Spring 1903: Chaos rules!

Double the amount of time was available for planning and diploming.
Are the results a reflection of the extra time available? And if so, was it worth it?
Maybe, but one thing is sure:
** IT COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE ANY MESSIER THAN THIS **

The only Power that saw all its orders succeed was Turkey. But not so sure whether that will make it any happier.
Most of the units don't move at all as a result.

The Austrian Emperor has decided to retreat its fleet to Albania.
The Turkish army was so kind to accompany it until it had left Greece.
Some say they were waving the Austrian fleet goodbye; others said the gestures made by the Turks may have had a different meaning...

Deadline for Fall 1903 is set for Tuesday May 27, 23.00 GMT. Or once all orders have been received marked as Final.

DC176 - Summer 1903 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
On behalf of the Ottoman soldiers present in the harbor of Athens last night, I will inform you all that these men were wielding their hands only in order to resist hordes of mosquitoes, which have been a true menace in the previous weeks.

I can only speculate, but perhaps that Austrian fleet brought them with it. They better not be carrying some sort of disease. Ottoman medicine might be the best in the world, but our crown jewel hospital in Smyrna seems to be occupied by sick people already.

Regards,

Agha Ahmed Niyazi,
Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces in Greece

DC176 - Fall 1903 - Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
"You shall not covet your neighbour's house; you shall not covet your neighbour's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour."

And with these wise words, let's take a look at Fall 1903.

A reporter of the The Independent European Journal said that the Italian Fleet in Smyrna had been under a large scale attack by the Turkish navy; that morale under Italian troops however was still high, which he attributed to the successes Italy had in the taking of Ankara and the destruction of the Italian army in Greece. He also reported a brutal war going on in center-Europe: Munich, Bohemia, and Vienna, with victims largely under the local population while the armies seemed to suffer only minor casualties. Kiel however was witness to an invasion of Russian troops after the resistance from the German troops was broken by the aid Russia received from the French. Meanwhile English troops in Sweden took the opportunity Russia left after its departure from Denmark. And while the English withdrew to Norway, German troops in Livonia made a dash for St Petersburg. The newspaper said it seemed that in Northern Continental Europe the three Powers: Germany, England and Russia, are playing a game of tag.

The results of the Fall 1903 orders are:

Deadline for this retreat is Wednesday, May 28, 23.00 GMT or as soon as it is received as Final.

Winter deadline I'll schedule for this Friday, 23.00 GMT so we can have our Spring 1904 orders deadline again at next Tuesday June 3.

DC176 - Winter 1903 - deadline REMINDER: tonite 23... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Still waiting for the Winter 1903 orders from some of the Powers.
If you're listed as BCC, I have not yet received any orders from you.
Just over 6 hours to go...

Please send them to me asap to prevent a NMR. Below is attached the rules for a NMR in Winter.
Your GM
Frank

o On a Winter turn an NMR (NBR/NDR) would mean that if the player was building - the builds would be waived and if the player was disbanding, units would be disbanded under the following rules
§ Units not in a supply center before units in a supply center
§ Units further from home centers before units closer to home centers (counted in provinces using the shortest route to the nearest home centre - whether still owned by the player or not).
§ Fleets before armies if equidistant per the above
§ Alphabetical.

DC176 - Winter 1903 - Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
No word from our Turkish ruler, His Imperial Majesty Abdul Hamid II of the Ottoman Empire (Henry, please contact me to let me know what's happening).
A first NMR has been recorded for Turkey, and if another NMR occurs, Turkey's troops will go into Civil Disorder. See the DC176 House Rules:

3. If a player NMRs for 2 consecutive seasons, the country is placed in Civil Disorder (CD). Countries in Civil Disorder will have all their units hold. Units will disband if dislodged and no extra units will be built. The GM will remove the player from the game and may choose to seek a replacement or just leave the country in Civil Disorder.

Following orders were given for Winter 1903:

Austria: Build A Vienna
France: Build F Brest
Germany: Remove A St Petersburg
Italy: Build F Naples

Since Turkey had to disband one of its units and no orders were received, the rules will be applied for a NMR (or NDR).
As a result the Fleet in AEG will be disbanded.

Next deadline is for the Spring 1904 orders and is set for Tuesday, June 3rd, 23.00 GMT.
Let's hope Henry gets back to us to continue the game. If not, I will take a decision at the next deadline.

Henry,

sorry for having to contact you through this public channel.
But since you had problems before I'm no longer sure whether you receive my messages.
Perhaps you could also arrange a second email address to avoid this?

Please contact me asap as I'm still waiting for your orders for Spring 1904 which are due in 1 hour.

DC176 - Spring 1904 - Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear players,

it's now almost 4 hours past the deadline and I have still not heard from Henry Haig (Turkey). Last message was regarding the previous adjudication he had also missed (see my earlier message on this). Several reminders and the postings on the DC website have not helped sofar. Regretfully, Henry did not provide me with an alternate email address like some of you did (thanks).

Thus I have no other choice than to record a second NMR for Turkey. That would mean his units go into Civil Disorder. However, considering the technical problems Henry mentioned earlier, I would like to give Turkey one more opportunity to redeem itself. He can prevent the CD for his remaining unit if he contacts me before the deadline for Summer 1904.
With the orders in for Spring 1904 from all other Powers, I have decided to move on.

So here is the adjudication for Spring 1904:

Austria:
A Budapest - Rumania
F Greece - Bulgaria(sc)
A Serbia Supports A Budapest - Rumania
A Trieste - Tyrolia
A Vienna - Galicia (*Fails*)

England:

A Rumania, no move received (*Dislodged*)
A Tyrolia - Munich
A Warsaw - Silesia

Turkey:
A Bulgaria, no move received (*Disbanded*)
F Smyrna, no move received
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Russia was under heavy attack and now faces retreats for its Fleet in Kiel and its Army in Rumania.
RUS F Kiel can retreat to HOL, HEL or BAL.
RUS A Rumania can retreat to UKR or SEV.
Retreats are due by Thursday, June 5, at 23.00 GMT.

DC176 - Newsflash - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
ITAR-TAS Special newsflash regarding the situation in Turkey.

Several days ago reports started trickling in at our newsdesk on
skirmishes occurring in Turkey between the military and its citizens.
This has been an ongoing concern to the neighbouring countries who are
afraid that the violence might affect them. Clarity was sought from
the local government but none of the requests was responded to.

Today our local reporter has been witness to largescale riots in the
region of Smyrna. The violence amongst citizens and military has grown
out of control. The Turkish government still has to respond to this
outbreak. One official, who wanted to stay anonymous out of fear for
retaliation, told us that the Turkish leader has gone missing and that
the government has become paralyzed as a result.

A further escalation of violence is expected. Unless the Turkish
leader will react soon, the whole country is expected to go into civil
war. Several countries have already advised their citizens to avoid
travelling to Turkey. Increased military activity has been noticed at
their borders.

DC176 - Turkey NMR for Spring 1904 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear all,

despite postings on the DC website and several emails, Turkey has not responded.
As announced earlier this means that Turkey has gone into Civil Disorder and as per my House Rules this means:

If a player NMRs for 2 consecutive seasons (Spring or Fall), the country is placed in Civil Disorder (CD). Countries in Civil Disorder will have all their units hold. Units will disband if dislodged and no extra units will be built. The GM will remove the player from the game and may choose to seek a replacement or just leave the country in Civil Disorder.

Since Turkey has only one unit left which is surrounded by units from other Powers, its life expectancy is rather short. For that reason I will not seek a replacement for this player.

The deadline for Fall 1904 won't change and is still set for Tuesday, June 10, 23.00 GMT

Austria:
Build A Trieste

England:
Build A Edinburgh
France:
Remove A Burgundy
Germany:
Remove A Holland Italy:

This leaves a very interesting map.
Germany has units all over the map; which would have been nice, had they been connected.
Turkey's unit in Smyrna is still in CD; wonder whether it will survive another year.
Russia's advancing army has started to thin in middle Europe; vaguely recalls a story about long supply lines and starving units.

DC176 - Spring 1905 - Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Spring 1905: Newspapers throughout Europe report heavy fighting almost everywhere. Armies of France, Russia and England fought a bloody war in Holland but no one won; what was left were desolate and barren lowlands. The North Sea had never before seen so many ships: it was like armies could walk across! The French Fleet in the English Channel overwhelmed by the British Navy is now reported to be retreating.
Severe losses were reported for Italy, whose army in Greece - who had nicknamed themselves Liberators of the Greek people - has been destroyed by Austrian forces; and closer to home, the Venetian Army was surprised by an invasion from the Austrians. The Corriere della Sera reports from neighbouring Piedmont that the Italian army is now regrouping outside Venice and will retaliate in Fall. But not all bad news for the Italians: their forces from Armenia and the Aegean Sea were successful in Smyrna and send the last remaining unit of Turkey into hiding.

Orders received for Spring 1905:

Austria:
A Budapest - Galicia
F Bulgaria(sc) - Greece

DC176 - Summer 1905 - Adjudication: the Fall of Tu... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Summer 1905: The English tabloid News-U-Need reports suspicious looking cadets and lieutenants in several pubs in Wales; they are said to hold their tongue much better than their beer; conversations that were overheard were said to have a strong accent; government sources allege this to common behavior amongst the Welsh, especially after a night in the pub.
Other news: Corriera del Serra reports from Piedmont with a special Roman edition: the Venetian Garde has regrouped and is determined to strike back at the Austrians; it was said that the attack by the Austrians had caused a new surge in nationalism (as did the news that the Italian soccer team made it to the next round in the European Championship).

France: F English Channel - Wales
