Berkeley???s Blitz is over with a 4-way Draw
for England, Russia, France & Turkey!

The EGP vote was??unanimous and thus the game ends and the
          map does not??change.

I shall post the result to the website very soon.

              The English navy has a
successful Spring bombardment and takes Kiel! Russian
Fleets destroy the Danish Army, and Germany is
annihilated!Austria still hangs on and sails his Fleet
up the Adriatic, while the remaining Army loses his
bearings and stands still in Vienna, thinking he was
in Venice. Russia invades Budapest, while Turkey has a
                  cabinet re-shuffle.

              No retreats as the Fleet
Kiel and Army Denmark had nowhere to go.

              We say goodbye to Austin,
                  Germany is eliminated.

              I don???t quite know what
happened with the missing orders. They eventually
turned up late, but with valid timestamps in my Spam
mailbox. Sorry for the late adjudication. I have also
verified with the backup - thanks to Mike Simms.

We can all learn from this
                  - it???s essential that you all copy to orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com,
and I need to be more trusting than to believe I had 3
NMR???s! I am reasonably sure that I have the complete
set now, as the ones I found matched what you all told
me, plus the TD has forwarded the contents of orders(at)
                  .??

If not, we will have to
delay and ??ask the TD to help here.

One thing to note: I do
always acknowledge receipt. If you you??don???t??get an ack, then please
send a separate email saying you???ve sent??orders but
had no ack. If the spam filters are being tripped by
some content in your email, it???s??important to not just
                  repeat the same??thing again.

              Note ?because
of all this I may leave updating the website until
                  tomorrow.

Thanks to all for a great game and thanks to Vegas for GMing.

Congratulations to Steve! Good luck in Round 2.

It was stab or be stabbed I think, Garry, and I waited too long, that’s all.

Good fun!

E stayed on board (Gary had a bit of tribute for him as part of his The hold he can just say now )despite that 1 crazy turn which I literally had to ck multiple times that I was on right dpy file & right moves knowing Tim to be a solid player. C already looked good up north but that took off a lot of the pressure. Reasonably smooth game with my usual inability to decide whether a point needs making or even has validity about it for silliness. This is the 2nd game to finish so 2 are set for the full press final with 1 turn a wk & the rest.  Gary is a big-wig in DC so he can see if I assign the right results titles. Survivor throws me here as I know it is also used when a solo occurs which is not the norm.

..this is not a wargame where they might have marines who could storm Dam to finish him off Folks still want Cre but G holds on. A reminder: DC points normal for this 1 but the player with mosts scs (or best tie-breaker) plays a full press game (1 wk turns/other norms) to get a seat in the DC Invitational. 1st Tie-breaker is average scs over the 8 yrs so just catching up likely not enuff.  That was a mad game – excellent. Many thanks Mike for the hard work, and to the rest of you gents. Not sure how I feel about the time limitation. At the very least lucky I guess, because much longer and Rome would have taken a solo! My EOG?  I tried to be friends with Egypt and Egypt went down (the Crete or Cyprus call early on was crucial); I tried to be friends with Carthage and Carthage went down. This was the main 'regulars' game (others spread out) so many of you have met before. All have seen DW & other action. Poul is of course the 1-time Danish champion of DW's Denmarkhaus & has been in games of mine (incl hand-done 1600 maps) since 1999. Steph would be 2nd-longest. They both have some bon mots to deliver back & forth about this 1. Mike Sims should consider a house for DC but maybe a more advanced country like Estonia or maybe the alliterative Haiti House Normal DC points will be assigned (I assume calling topper 'draw' & others survivors works in DC - never sure) & all can wish Jim well in the championship game for a seat in the DC Invitational whenever that happens. Congrats Steve!

I figured I was too little too late in the end but it is because TheWizardTim was masterful in his defense of Egypt. I honestly predicated everything on being able to capture Egypt both faster and completely and that didn't happen because he was a solid foe. Sorry to John that I had to stab for a few centers but I was hoping I could get some momentum late and overcome Steve. Didn't like doing it but the 08 deadline was a ticking clock in the back of my mind throughout and I didn't have any choice.

That said Steve getting to 15 was impressive. Good luck in Rd 2.

Thanks to Vegas for a nice diversion and an interesting tournament and format. I hope this becomes something annual at DC. I like the idea of a finite timeframe before determining a winner. Certainly makes you act more deliberately.

Thanks to all for a great game. I do feel the need to apologize, my work load spiked shortly after the game started and I sent a turn without checking it fully. I am willing to bet Persia can tell which turn that was.

Well played  and good luck in the future.

The normal vehicle in the past (when Cat & DW were main recruiting sources along with old Dip1600) was Sail Ho. Not as pretty a game but no-fooling, point-to-point play required. Only 16 folks needed as well which was always easy. People think South has an advantage but that very thought means game usually is played against S so diminishes what I think is a false idea. The place names alone throw some folks at first...

To be honest this was my first go at the Ancient Med board; I would have preferred the Sail-Ho tournament. This was also my first Dip game in 5 or so years, so I was glad it was gunboat.

My approach to this was fairly simple, and was based more on my strategy for playing Chromatic, which is similar in style -- a board with 5 powers where it's easier to go one way or the other than it is to go across. So I needed Rome to choose to go after Greece, and I had to choose between Egypt and Rome. When it came to the first builds, I chose to go after Egypt, mainly because it was the easier nut to crack. I was hoping that Rome would realize how poorly Greece was defended, and would go after the easier nut there, instead of me. But he didn't.

Losing Saguntum was expected; I figured I'd finish off Egypt and then focus on holding off Rome defensively until either he went after Greece instead or until Greece decided to help me out. What I didn't expect was what I strongly believe to have been the least strategic attack of the game -- Persia forcing me to disband while at the same time being unable to build with the taken centers, and stab which allowed Egypt to survive for another year. I might have respected Persia if he'd gotten the build; after all, he had Greece to deal with, too. But he didn't. It was pointless and useless and all it did was force me to disband. At that point, I knew I couldn't win; I couldn't hold off Rome for long, or Persia if I made a disband on that end of the board, and even Greece might be able to poach a center from my carcass.

At this point, I decided to be kingmaker. I couldn't help Greece. I wouldn't help Persia. So I disbanded most favorably to Rome and hoped he would turn on Greece as soon as possible. His first set of moves at that point seemed to not be helpful to me, so I made sure he couldn't get all my centers. At that point, Greece finally seemed to realize what was happening, but it was too late.

Thanks to Vegas for running the game. It was fun. Wish there were more gunboats on DC. Beyond that, good game, all. Bittersweet Congrats to Rome, Mockingly Villainous Curses to Persia, and Good Luck to all the rest. See y'all around, I'm sure.[Reply] |

Bad news for the one-centre powers this turn.  Both face elimination as their capitals are now occupied.  England was disbanded from London after the French invasion, and with no place to retreat the fate of the English now rests in France abandoning London in the fall.  On the other side of Europe, Moscow falls to the Germans.  Russia does get a retreat, but again existence is in the hands of the occupiers.  In other news, Austria may have gained the upper hand over Turkey by taking Sevastopol, while France and Germany continued to stalemate along the Maginot Line.

I'd like to have the retreat as soon as possible, preferably within twenty-four hours.

Hey all,

Late night meeting for work. Got home at 11:30 PM my time and I'm ready to go to sleep. So no cute commentary from me tonight.
No retreats. Fall is thursday at 8:00. Let me know ASAP if anything is wrong. There probably is. I'm sleep deprived.

Mike Sims should consider a house for DC but maybe a more
advanced country like Estonia or maybe the alliterative Haiti House Normal DC points will be assigned (I assume calling topper 'draw' & others survivors works in DC - never sure) & all can wish Jim well in the championship game for a seat in the DC Invitational whenever that happens.

See y'all around, I'm sure. |

I am a Jonah. Darren From: MICHAEL BOUTOT [mailto:vegas_iwish(at)yahoo.com]
