DC501 - Spring 1905 - Operations   (Aug 22, 2014, 1:56 am)
The year starts with a lot of jostling, but not much major movement. Italy throws it's hat into the ring in the north, and the flow of forces seems to cascade around the lone English military unit, which lives to see another change of color of the leaves.  Two retreats this turn, deadline for those will be August 24th.  France A Munich can retreat to Burgundy, Silesia, Bohemia or Tyrolia
Italy A Warsaw can retreat to Prussia or Livonia

And what would an opening round be without a good merry bit of press from the Leprechauns...

(courtesy of William Allingham)
Little Cowboy, what have you heard,
Up on the lonely rath's green mound?
Only the plaintive yellow bird
Sighing in sultry fields around,
Chary, chary, chary, chee-ee!-
Only the grasshopper and the bee?-
    'Tip-tap, rip-rap,
    Tick-a-tack-too!
Scarlet leather, sewn together,
This will make a shoe.
Left, right, pull it tight;
Summer days are warm;
Underground in winter,
Laughing at the storm!'
Lay your ear close to the hill.
Do you not catch the tiny clamour,
Busy click of an elfin hammer,
Voice of the Leprachaun singing shrill
As he merrily plies his trade?
    He's a span
    And a quarter in height.
Get him in sight, hold him tight,
    And you're a made
        Man!
You watch your cattle the summer day,
Sup on potatoes, sleep in the hay;
How would you like to roll in your carriage,
Look for a duchess's daughter in marriage?
Seize the Shoemaker-then you may!
    'Big boots a-hunting,
    Sandals in the hall,
    White for a wedding-feast,
    Pink for a ball.
    This way, that way,
    So we make a shoe;
    Getting rich every stitch,
    Tick-tack-too!'
Nine-and-ninety treasure-crocks
This keen miser-fairy hath,
Hid in mountains, woods, and rocks,
Ruin and round-tow'r, cave and rath,
And where the cormorants build;
    From times of old
    Guarded by him;
    Each of them fill'd
    Full to the brim
        With gold!
I caught him at work one day, myself,
In the castle-ditch where foxglove grows,-
A wrinkled, wizen'd, and bearded Elf,
Spectacles stuck on his pointed nose,
Silver buckles to his hose,
Leather apron-shoe in his lap-
    'Rip-rap, tip-tap,
    Tick-tack-too!
    (A grasshopper on my cap!
    Away the moth flew!)
    Buskins for a fairy prince,
    Brogues for his son,-
    Pay me well, pay me well,
    When the job is done!'
The rogue was mine, beyond a doubt.
I stared at him; he stared at me;
'Servant, Sir!' 'Humph!' says he,
And pull'd a snuff-box out.
He took a long pinch, look'd better pleased,
The queer little Leprachaun;
Offer'd the box with a whimsical grace,-
Pouf! he flung the dust in my face,
And while I sneezed,
        Was gone!

Two bounces!  The Magicians and Undead clash over the West Sea of Shadows, while the Centaurs and the Rogues fight for the Orboros dot.  Everyone else got more or less what they ordered... tho it would seem as an uninformed bystander that many of these were not as expected from ones neighbors.  A few points catch my eye... Of the 4 nations that could, not one went for Dargaard Keep!  Usually hotly fought over, that will remain a neutral into year 2... And another highly contested space, the High Seas went completely vacant.  Interesting start!

Let's set the Fall for a little over a week... Thu 8/28.  12 noon.  Builds after Labor Day (9/1 in the US).  Things are a little slower than normal since there's some vacations criss-crossing and I want to be sure everyone has at least a few days.

Sorry if this is already listed somewhere, but what is the Shades special ability? The only copies of the rules I can find are older ones with Samurai instead of Shades.

Hi all,
Good to be in! I've had some internet problems here and just seen the game start, but I'm very happy to be involved! I'll be in touch with people ASAP but, given I'm working 7.30-10.00ish in a children's residential holiday centre (and will be for the next two weeks), I'll probably only be able to talk to neighbours initially.
Let the chaos begin! =)

That should be celebrated!

You on the other hand, did what we thought was nigh impossible.  You proved that you can solo this map!
That should be celebrated!

And that has to be the oddest pre-game trash talk I have ever uttered!!!

DC502 NEEDS YOU!!! - Slangers   (Aug 18, 2014, 3:10 am)
DC502 is currently approaching Fall 1903 and needs a new Turkey. The game has been dogged by drop-outs and already has a new Germany and a new Italy. Russia is just starting to pull away and in Spring 1903 stabbed Turkey by grabbing Ankara. Despite this Turkey is still viable, holding Bul, Ser and Gre and has just pushed a fleet into the Ionian.

The up to date map is now at the game page under Open Games.

1904 comes to a close with Germany dealt a harsh blow by the

The British Empire loses the capital, but manages to wrest control of Edinburgh back from the Germans, and is able to keep the remaining Royal fleet operating for another year. The big winner is Italy, who snatches two centers from
the Russians while their attention is
otherwise occupied, and pushes the Turks out of Bulgaria. Ok folks, I know the attached Resolution map is a bit confusing right now. Realpolitik won't change ownership of the SCs until I finish the Autumn phase, and the Turkish fleet in Bulgaria has a choice to make in its retreat, so I can't adjudicate that yet. As soon as Turkey gives me their choice, I will send the updated Fall 1904 map with all retreats and territory changes shown, and give you the builds and disbands. Bulgaria can retreat to either Constantinople or the Aegean Sea. Subject: DC501 - Fall 1904

1904 comes to a close with Germany dealt a harsh blow by the
Franco-Russian alliance.
I'll make the deadline August 17th, or as soon as he gets back to me, whichever comes first.   England

Just like that we have a lineup change!  One newbie that was on the fence opted out, so the Hobbits will be played by the tall, dark and sinister Clark Landry.
Enjoy!

dc505 Game Start! - tarakashka   (Aug 12, 2014, 2:26 pm)
Greetings,

I thereby dub the young knight, Sir Jason "Snowden" K - seeing how
he is leaking all kind of information all over the Heaven.  I would
offer him residence in my cozy establishment, but it seems like he
has a country of his own ... at the moment, anyway... and I guess
it's just as well, considering the number of odd looking creatures
with very sharp objects roaming the surface and guts of our Mother
Heaven.

I wish you all well and hope you will stay away from the traps...

Ilya the brave Gnome

And
talking about how poorly Warren and I have done in the past

You
on the other hand, did what we thought was nigh impossible.
You proved that you can solo this map!
That
should be celebrated!

And
that has to be the oddest pre-game trash talk I have ever
uttered!!!
