DC116 Vogon's Revenge - Summer 1910 - Morning Song - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The Tsar found he was in it real deep
In retreat from Tyrolian Keep
Behind him the cheers,
The rude chants and jeers
Of Italians - who made free with the sheep

--------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys,

Sorry about the little ditty this round. I was feeling a mite bit saucy. =) Russia retreats to Bohemia and onward we groove. Deadline for Fall 1910 orders will be set for Saturday, January 19th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

DC116 Vogon's Revenge - Fall 1911 - Jackie, Dresse... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The Russian sang a little ditty
And moved only little bitty
While the Brit
Iberian hit
Recovering Spanish city

-----------------------------------------

Turkey seizes the day and undergoes a massive troop reorganization while Russia holds up, the Tsar contenting himself with a strike on Tyrolia. Meanwhile England recovers Spain, but at a cost as the Italian recovers Marseilles.

One retreat from Tyrolia, but the Italian army had only Venice to fall back to. Neil, let me know if OTB is preferred. Other than that, please let me know if you spot any errors - Winter 1911 orders will be due Monday, February 4th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

DC116 Vogon's Revenge - Winter 1911 - The Jessica... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Green says goodbye to Albanian redoubt
While White with Kiel will do without
As Yellow and Red
Need not stir from bed
And Blue finds Three more to send about

--------------------------------------------------------------

Winter builds finds Kiel and Albania disbanded, while England puts his three builds to use and raises two fleets in the south and one army of Scottish Soccer Hooligans in Edinburgh. (Yarr!)

Please let me know if I've screwed this up. Deadline for Spring 1912 will be set for Thursday, February 7th (11:59 PM GMT). That's a fairly quick deadline, so just let me know if anyone needs more time.

Cheers!

Hey guys I’ll suggest a concession to E/R here. Their progress is eventual and unavoidable in time, but it’ll take another 20 turns to play out naturally. A 2-way draw cant be improved on by getting more centers… only by getting a solo, so it’s the 2nd best result possible. There is no point to the game, as it’s just a controlled fallback over the next 20 or so turns. So what do you all want?

I’ll vote yes.

------------------------------------------------------------

Hey gang, thanks for the patience during that minor delay. Onwards we move into the Spring turns, where Turkey and Italy indeed team up to overpower the Tsar in Tyrolia. However, the tag team duo gets out-muscled in turn as England bulldogs their way into Marseilles.

Only one retreat from the Spring moves, but it was an automatic disband with no valid retreat. In Marseilles, of course, the Italian met a bitter end. With that, Fall 1913 approaches - we'll set the deadline for Tuesday, February 26th (11:59 PM GMT).

Everyone keeps asking that.. =P

Gents, as per my house rules I always give every vote the full amount of time allotted. This covers things in case of events like changed minds or last-minute negotiations.

Hang in there.. Monday will be here before you know it.. But yeah, please everyone make sure to turn in a set of Fall orders.

Hey guys I'll suggest a concession to E/R here. Their progress is eventual and unavoidable in time, but it'll take another 20 turns to play out naturally. A 2-way draw cant be improved on by getting more centers… only by getting a solo, so it's the 2nd best result possible. There is no point to the game, as it's just a controlled fallback over the next 20 or so turns. So what do you all want?

I'll vote yes.

In Tyrolia we'll beat you
Said Green, and Yellow too
But the White
Kept smiling bright
Knowing Marseilles would turn bright blue

As always, please let me know if you spot any mistakes. Cheers!

Heya gang,

Just a gentle nudge that Fall 1913 orders are due in tomorrow within 20 hours. I do have votes from everyone for the draw proposal, but I am still missing a couple sets of orders. Never a good thing to assume the draw is a sure bet - please doublecheck for order confirmations and send those last couple sets in.. =)

Folks...

Once again, Trout is on drugs.

It was NOT a DIAS that was proposed, but an English / Russian Draw. That is what passed - not a vote on a DIAS.

Thanks to the players that pointed out my error here. Apologies for any confusion. This game ends in an [u:2a2e4ec3b7]E/R DRAW!

And how could I refuse a request like that? Yes, the DIAS draw passes with five enthusiastic votes and peace falls on the European continent once more. For the sake of things, I ran through the Fall 1913 adjudication but it changes little and the board remains dead-locked. Therefore, this game is one for the books. My thanks and congratulations to all you players for playing this one out to the bitter end. It was a hard-fought one, that's for sure. End-of-game statements are, of course, very welcome.

For the record, for all of you folks who watched what I did, shrugged their shoulders and said 'Meh, I could do that,' then have I got an offer for you.. Diplomaticcorp is currently looking for GM's to step up and put me in my place. Whether you have lots of experience, or have never GM'd a single game, we'd love to have you. If you're interested (and I *know* you are) just drop me, Sims or Penger a line...

Once again, my hearty congratulations to you guys for the draw. Thanks for putting up with all the horrendous poetry with nary a protest.. =)

I just wanted to thank all for a great (if long) game.
But especially to my partner Jorge, for sticking with me for a very strong end, to Mike, who stepped into a weak turkish position and held the line far longer then we could have expected (and teaching me a few things along the way) and Doug, who stuck out an impossible position for longer then I can credit, and playing the sides off to perfection to keep his micro-empire alive. No one earned a survivor credit more.
And I would like to note, the turning point, from my perspective was in the first years of the game when I did not take a vulnerable St Petes when Russia would have fallen to Austria and Turkey, forming the alliance that lasted the entire game.
Good Game everyone, see you all on the next board!

I am so glad this game is over. I came into this game with high hopes for a thrilling game as I took over a Turkey with around 7 dots, and was up against some great players. Little did I know that 10 years would play out, I would end up on approximately the same 7 dots, and the game called a draw.

It started off ok, there was some discussion going on, but ultimately it boiled down very quickly to England and Russia that wouldn’t consider anything other than their own alliance. Therefore I have to say there wasn’t too much Diplomacy in this one. Italy and I came to the understanding that if we flinched at all, we’d simply be overrun faster, and Austria eventually bought in too, that ER were playing everyone else, and so it became the 3 small powers defending, waiting, losing ground bit by bit.

I think had Italy and Austria committed to a trio sooner, while Germany was still alive, we could have gotten a jump on ER and done something w the game. But once Mikael / Germany was out, we had no more forces behind enemy lines and it was over -- the next 5 years were all kind of a drag.

Therefore I’m happy the draw passed, cuz I wasn’t looking forward to another 5 years of slow grinding moves, nothing changing on the Russian front, and England gaining slowly in the west. I’m also happy it passed, cuz the only alternative was that England or Russia would eventually make a solo move, but it would have taken 10 years to get to a point where they had 15-16 ish each.

So good game all, especially to England and Russia for a well deserved draw, I’m happy w the survival – cant complain for enduring such an onslaught. As for the Trout, another flawless game GM’d as usual. See you all next time,
-mike

It took me awhile to get used to the usual diplomacy promises and stabs but that all part of the game. I’ve still got a lot to relearn and learn so once again thanks for the game. I’d also like to give a special thanks to Trout as without him this game would have happened. If you could get back to me trout and tell me how the mapping system works for the ordering I’d be tempted to give GMing a go.

Regards Neil

Subject: dc116 Vogon's Revenge - Turk EGS

See you all next time,
-mike

Jason

Hey guys I’ll suggest a concession to E/R here. Their progress is eventual and unavoidable in time, but it’ll take another 20 turns to play out naturally. A 2-way draw cant be improved on by getting more centers… only by getting a solo, so it’s the 2nd best result possible. There is no point to the game, as it’s just a controlled fallback over the next 20 or so turns. So what do you all want?

I’ll vote yes.
-mike

To examine what they'd found -
What appeared to be a classic stalemate line!

---------------------------------------------------------

Yes, little movement occurs on the board with the exception of the Austrians staging a daring raid on Tyrolia and English and Turkish fleets moving behind the lines. The unfortunate Russian army in the mountainous province is disbanded, and we move on into the Fall of 1912.

Please let me know if you spot any errors. This will be interesting to see if either side can shake something loose. Deadline for Fall 1912 will be set for Tuesday, February 12th (11:59 PM GMT).

With pomp and fanfare from the band
Turkey marched through Trieste's land
But this happy merry dance
Effected unseen circumstance
As the Archduke forced now to disband.

---------------------------------------------------------

Bounce, bounce, bounce a-plenty - all over the map once again. Minor movement does take place, however, as England convoys to Belgium and Turkey moves to the Ionian. In addition, Austrian forces are reduced by half due to Turkish occupation of Trieste.

No retreats are required, so of course we move directly into Winter 1912 adjustments. Austria disbands 1 while both Turkey and Russia gain 1 build. Deadline for Winter orders will be set for Valentine's Day - Thursday February 14th (11:59 PM GMT).

dc116 draw prop - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey guys I’ll suggest a concession to E/R here. Their progress is eventual and unavoidable in time, but it’ll take another 20 turns to play out naturally. A 2-way draw cant be improved on by getting more centers… only by getting a solo, so it’s the 2nd best result possible. There is no point to the game, as it’s just a controlled fallback over the next 20 or so turns. So what do you all want?

I’ll vote yes.

In Tyrolia we'll beat you
Said Green, and Yellow too
But the White
Kept smiling bright
Knowing Marseilles would turn bright blue

As always, please let me know if you spot any mistakes. Cheers!

DC116 Russia EGS - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I don't know how many more times I can thank Trout for
doing what he could to turn a two-way draw into a
five-way one, as well as generally manage a
superlative game.

This game never had a midgame. In the east, I was
instantly invaded by A/T. I built in Sev, securing my
border with four units, and left StP wide open and at
England's mercy. Jason in Nwy decided it was worth
keeping Russia alive, and it was all downhill from
there on. Turkey joined me and stabbed Austria. This
allowed me to attack Germany, who had been playing
power broker with England and France. At this point
Turkey stabbed me, rejoining Austria, and the first
German leader quit for the usual pathetic reasons.

The turn that set the stage for the rest of the game
was F05. A/T had the advantage on me, but I managed
to slip one army behind their lines, while
re-establishing my own defense perimeter. In the
meantime, I thoroughly stabbed Mikael in his first
turn as Germany, knocking him out of the game before
he could even consider his options. England could now
focus on finishing off France, and heading toward the
Med.

Turkey was forced to resign and was replaced by Mike,
but nothing ever changed. I saw no reason to switch
allies from England to Turkey, given that I could win
either way, but was already positioned to do so with
England. Jason and I made some critical headway in
the first few turns as I kept Austria and Italy
focused against Turkey. By the time Mike peeled off
Italy, and finally Austria, Jason had just enough
momentum to squeeze us through a crack in the
Mediterranean door. I say a "crack," because I/T did
a terrific job holding us off.

I would say that the key points in this game were
Russia surviving the first year (creating the
beginning of an unbreakable bond with England), and
that Italy took a bit too long to cast its lot with
Turkey.

Hi All
Id like to chip in and say thanks for the game, my
first in something like 17 years I think. Not my
last that is for sure. It took me awhile to get used
to the usual diplomacy promises and stabs but that
all part of the game. Ive still got a lot to
relearn and learn so once again thanks for the game.
Id also like to give a special thanks to Trout as
without him this game would have happened. If you
could get back to me trout and tell me how the
mapping system works for the ordering Id be tempted
to give GMing a go.

Regards Neil

I am so glad this game is over. I came into this
game with high hopes for a thrilling game as I took
over a Turkey with around 7 dots, and was up against
some great players. Little did I know that 10 years
would play out, I would end up on approximately the
same 7 dots, and the game called a draw.

It started off ok, there was some discussion going
on, but ultimately it boiled down very quickly to
England and Russia that wouldnt consider anything
other than their own alliance. Therefore I have to
say there wasnt too much Diplomacy in this one.
Italy and I came to the understanding that if we
flinched at all, wed simply be overrun faster, and
Austria eventually bought in too, that ER were
playing everyone else, and so it became the 3 small
powers defending, waiting, losing ground bit by bit.

I think had Italy and Austria committed to a trio
sooner, while Germany was still alive, we could have
gotten a jump on ER and done something w the game.
But once Mikael / Germany was out, we had no more
forces behind enemy lines and it was over -- the
next 5 years were all kind of a drag.

Therefore Im happy the draw passed, cuz I wasnt
looking forward to another 5 years of slow grinding
moves, nothing changing on the Russian front, and
England gaining slowly in the west. Im also happy
it passed, cuz the only alternative was that England
or Russia would eventually make a solo move, but it
would have taken 10 years to get to a point where
they had 15-16 ish each.

So good game all, especially to England and Russia
for a well deserved draw, Im happy w the survival
cant complain for enduring such an onslaught. As for
the Trout, another flawless game GMd as usual. See
you all next time,
-mike

I just wanted to thank all for a great (if long)
game.
But especially to my partner Jorge, for sticking
with me for a very strong end, to Mike, who stepped
into a weak turkish position and held the line far
longer then we could have expected (and teaching me
a few things along the way) and Doug, who stuck out
an impossible position for longer then I can credit,
and playing the sides off to perfection to keep his
micro-empire alive. No one earned a survivor credit
more.
And I would like to note, the turning point, from my
perspective was in the first years of the game when
I did not take a vulnerable St Petes when Russia
would have fallen to Austria and Turkey, forming the
alliance that lasted the entire game.
Good Game everyone, see you all on the next board!
Jason
