What kind of English was that, Trout?!!

That last post was supposed to have read:

'This will hopefully be corrected by the end of the day.'

Re: why no map? - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Because there has been no adjudication yet! There will be once s01 happens. I guess we should change this so the standard starting map shows in the interim.

Pythagorean Septem - Game Start! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Greetings! And welcome to this 162nd game of Diplomaticcorp Diplomacy,
and the 2nd play of the Pericles variant!

This game is hereby dubbed the "Pythagorean Septem"

Please include "PS" in all your mails to me about this game! All
players have been in touch w me already about the game, and many of you
have been eagerly holding for this one to get in motion. If you add a
mail filter to auto sort things, I would suggest a filter for "PS" and
"dc162".

The first (and last) time Pericles was played, was dc084 - over 2 years,
and nearly 80 games ago (my God has it been that long?). I ran that
game, had a blast as the Messenians slammed a 20-sc Solo win, led by Lee
Taylor.

Game forum: http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=66

This forum is just for our game! You have all been subscribed to it by
default... this means any time somebody posts to it, you should get that
cc'd to your email inbox, so you are aware there is a new post. I will
also copy all adjudications to the forum, which means you will receive
adjudications twice - once from me, and once from the forum. This
ensures you are receiving it from two sources automatically, and have
little to no chance that an outgoing mail won't reach you. You can post
to the forum by visiting the site, or by emailing to:
dc162(at)diplomaticcorp.com. Any mail you send to this list will propagate
to all 7 players and myself.

Game page: http://www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc162

This is where you can find all information about this game! All
adjudications are posted here to browse thru, as well regular standings.

House Rules: http://www.sims-family.net/dip/houserules.htm

You should take a moment to gloss over these, for it's what I'll use to
resolve any sticky situations.

Pericles variant info: http://www.dipwiki.com?title=Pericles
This explains some of the map features

Timeline: This is a one-week game. That is one week for Spring and
Fall turns, with 2 days for Summer and Winter. "Autumn" (Fall retreats)
will be combined with Winter in most cases. My standard deadline is
always 2pm Pacific. That is about 10pm GMT.

PRESS: Especially in variants, press is greatly encouraged!

RESULTS: Those of you who have played in any games I've run before will
know I am a stickler for orders being in on time! I run the turns
usually within minutes of a deadline, at the latest, later that evening
after the kids go to sleep. If you don't get a result set within 24
hours of a deadline, then you KNOW something is messed up w the email
system, and you should inquire as to why!

PRELIMS: A majorly good habit to get into! Turn in a set of moves
early. Prelims are REQUIRED in Spring 01, w/in 48 hrs of this
game-start... so I know we have a full set. After that, they are
encouraged, but not required.

**************************************************

Roster and deadline to follow shortly.
Enjoy!

Pythagorean Septem - Roster! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Now that the formalities are out of the way, let's get it on!

IN his first game in dc, yet highly slandered by his brother, is John
Ellsworth - history teacher and Diplomacy veteran - leading the
Aetolians in the upper left corner.
johnmarkellsworth(at)gmail.com

IN what seems like his millionth game in dc, comes revered moderator and
veteran Former Trout leading the Arcolians in the bright purple smack in
the center of the map.
former.trout(at)gmail.com

IN a direct request to get into this game despite taking on 3 as an
eager newcomer to the site, comes Jack McHugh - aka Flapjack - leading
the Atticans out of Asia Minor.
jwmchughjr(at)gmail.com

IN another eager entry for a newcomer, comees Lequinian - the great
Scott Hickey leading the Boetians out of the upper right corner.
thase+dipcorp(at)dalarin.net

IN a first appearance in PBEM, but full of face to face experience (heh
which wont help you a bit here!) comes the mighty Andrew Smith leading
the Elians on the left edge of the map
248-pwou(at)a.dii.mod.uk

IN quite possibly the most eloquent world design ever, we have with us
the creator of the Imperial 1840 variant and leader of the 1st Maine
Cavalry, the masterful Sergeant Jerry Todd leading the Laconians in the
bottom middle!
sgttodd(at)mainecav.org

And finally batting cleanup... (well heh I guess batting 7th is not
really an impressive spot to be!) is the dc hopeful David Ellsworth, GM
of Cry Havoc!, head Hobbit of Hobbitonfieldville, and now leader of the
brick red Messenians!
davidellsworth(at)sbcglobal.net

Good luck all! Simple and clear lineup below if you don't fancy the
above exaggerations. Smile

FIRST DEADLINE - Tuesday March 4, 2pm Pacific!

PRELIMS - due by this Thursday Feb 28, 2pm Pacific! If I don't have
prelims from you by then, I'll hound you to confirm you're in this one.

Enjoy!
-mike

EOG England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I want to thank France as well as congratulate. When I was a lost soul, and even when Russia decided the opportunity to take my pitifully few remaining centers was more attractive than my potential alliance (after all I was weak and friendless) France listened. Though I normally vie to prevent a solo, I favor survival over elimination. France offered me survival though I sweated those draw proposals leaving me out.

However, France was mainly responsible for my weakened state. Up until I trusted him for one season, I was playing fairly good defense. His stab, while not unsuspected, caused my demise. I took a gamble on him and lost.

I enjoyed taking Germany down through timely sacrifice and deft shifting of forces.

Bottom line, without the French solo I would have come in 5th and been eliminated. Though I may have been a puppet, I remain a live puppet. I also find (for me) England a difficult country to play. I'll keep trying.

Thanks to all.

And the trumpets blare again! The crowd gathers, and the drunken jesters play. With a roar of applause, the following three Knights are honoured for their achievements:

Sir Mike Hoffman rises to the noble rank of Knight Errant for his impressive solo in DC-103

Sir Michael Sims is honourably designated with the Order of the Oak with the successful completion of DC-151.

Sir Former Trout, your humble servant, is raised to the Order of the Parchment with the wrap of DC-116.

Congratulations to all of our knights - and until the next fray...

Trolls on vacation - Deputy Troll - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Mike, fellow fog diplomates

Next Thursday (March 6) I shall be leaving for a longer vacation, returning only April 10.
I'm going down to Chile and as it doens't make sense to fly there from Northern Europe for just a fortnight, it is for four and a half weeks.

A assume this is too long for you to pause, so I could offer a substitute for my role in dc158.
It would be Timo Rebschloe, an experienced player in standard dip and world war variants.

Please let me know if we should halt the game for a month or if you'd prefer to continue with Timo. I'd resume my Lordship of the Trolls on April 10.

Rolf

On a related note: If you ever do not receive a results email within four hours of a deadline contact me IMMEDIATELY or simply check the game board: http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/game_page.php?game_id=dc149 I am not responsible for your moves not being submitted once I update the game website and send out the results email, especially in a tournament setting where deadlines are not subject to change.
