i suport the GP draw as well and as for Lynn I have played in many games and find his communications to be insightful , comprehensive and consistent.

Greetings,

I take offense to Lockheardt's remarks but I will forebear giving the audience my assessment of his personality.  I propose a 2WD vote in favor of GP for the current (winter) season.  I assume that if Persia has Germania's proxy that he can vote for Germania.  I would ask Mike N. to remain and simply order his units to hold or disband as appropriate while casting his draw vote.  Now that Persia is ordering for three, I see no reason to place any further substantive orders either.

Lynn

Mike,

I'm sorry you're upset about the current state of the game. I wouldn't think you'd mind Ross proxying his units to me while he is tied up in real life, as you asked Lynn to do the same favor for you when you were out of pocket earlier in the game. I have done my best to order as I think Ross would have done. I didn't even tell Matt that I was in control of Ross's units until I needed his support into Treva.

As for me and Matt's alliance, I admit we have been pretty carebear about it. But not egregiously so. We both take pains to keep stab defenses in place, and we both have kept diplomatic channels open with the other players. Unfortunately, Matt's alliance with you crumbled when you made a provocative build without due warning while at the same time leaving a gap in your defenses. And Lynn keeps forcing me to take his centers by leaving them wide open. Meanwhile, Matt has been a dutiful correspondent while you have
been often absent and, when present, unresponsive. And of course Lynn has all the diplomatic skills of a skunk with hemorrhoids.

Again, I'm sorry you're frustrated with the game. I invite you to air your grievances in more detail as I'm always trying to be a better player and I know I have much to learn.

Chris

This special holiday edition of your Ancient World brings plenty of strife, lots of failed orders, and dislodgements all across the board.  Hope you???re all enjoying the holiday cheer???

2 retreats!

Carthaginian F Treva can retreat to Mare Suevieum or O.Germanicus or Scandia.

Roman A Genua can retreat to Helvetii.

I just nudged them to Scandia and Helvetii, to make the builds easier.  If Carthage prefers the Mare Suev or O.Ger, he???s welcome to amend w the winter turn by the winter deadline.

Seems like Germania and Rome are on Santa???s naughty list, and not only get coal for Christmas, but they owe up some units.  Persia is on the good list w a unit to build, and Macedonia, well, we don???t know what he???s up to w jolly ole??? Santa to get the big +2.  But good job nonetheless!

Germania: Remove 1

Macedonia: Build 2

Persia: Build 1

Rome: Remove 1

Carthage: Could pull the retreat and be +1 instead.

Want to squeak in builds this holiday?  How about by Monday / 27th, or I???ll send out whenever I get a set of 4.  But being the holidays, I won???t NMR anyone if you???re late for this one.

Enjoy, and Have a great Christmas,

DC339: Rome's Resignation - mjn82   (Dec 24, 2010, 10:11 am)
It's not a grievance but rather a statement that Lynn has concurred with that there is very little actualll dipping going on and the game has seemed to have lost its momentum.. exept for a litte missive here and there the fun of diploming seems to be absent,  we havent seen much scheming at all for a few years!  and no sign that anything will change.  it bogged down very quickly into a war game rather than a game of diplomacy. and i do not see any change to that.

Chris

Want to squeak in builds this holiday?  How about by Monday / 27th, or I???ll send out whenever I get a set of 4.  But being the holidays, I won???t NMR anyone if you???re late for this one.

DC339: Rome's Resignation (dc339) hancockfc Dec 24, 10:21 am

Chris

Mike,

Diplomacy always seems to trail off at the end of a game, which is why I enjoy the beginning of a game more than the end stages.

But I'm having trouble understanding your lament in this instance. When you returned to the game after your leave of absence, you didn't drop me a message saying you were back. I had to send you an email to find out you were back in the game.

Then when I did send you an email offering to resume negotiations, you said you had to study the board before you could reply. But you failed to write back.

When Lynn took Sardinia, I sent you an email asking about the stab. You wrote me a one word answer. And the only reason you know that I'm controlling Ross's units is because I told you in case you wanted to coordinate orders with Germania, Persia, or both. Again, no reply from you.

I'm not complaining, mind you. I'm just confused as to why you are dissatisfied enough with the level of diplomacy to quit the game, but not enough to actually conduct any.

As for Lynn, he's obviously a talented player and a proficient enough diplomat to forge a very effective alliance with you. But I need to be entertained, and Lynn is way more entertaining when he's mad. So I say things like, "Lynn has all the charm of a bullfrog with halitosis." And then he huffs and puffs and I giggle and take another center from him.

It's all in the name of fun.

As for draws, an MCP 3-way is the most logical. I'm happy to vote for that. I'm also happy to vote for a DIAS draw. It's the journey, not the destination as they say.

Chris

P.S. Hey, it's Justin! He has my vote for the most dedicated player in this game. He hasn't stopped fighting and he's pursued every diplomatic channel open to him. An impressive effort in a difficult position.

I just nudged them to Scandia and Helvetii, to make the builds easier.  If Carthage prefers the Mare Suev or O.Ger, he’s welcome to amend w the winter turn by the winter deadline.

Seems like Germania and Rome are on Santa’s naughty list, and not only get coal for Christmas, but they owe up some units.  Persia is on the good list w a unit to build, and Macedonia, well, we don’t know what he’s up to w jolly ole’ Santa to get the big +2.  But good job nonetheless!

Germania: Remove 1

Macedonia: Build 2

Persia: Build 1

Rome: Remove 1

Carthage: Could pull the retreat and be +1 instead.

Want to squeak in builds this holiday?  How about by Monday / 27th, or I’ll send out whenever I get a set of 4.  But being the holidays, I won’t NMR anyone if you’re late for this one.

Enjoy, and Have a great Christmas,

Hey all,

Let’s not forget what we’re doin here… the Draw Props are all great and I’ll try to make heads & tails of them with the winter results, which will be taken as proposals for spring…

One turn… draw is proposed.

Next turn… draw is voted on.  If any draw passes, game is over.  If all draws fail, moves are processed as submitted.

So be sure to get me those builds!  I’ll set a firm deadline of Tuesday 3pm.

Enjoy!

dc339 f216bc redux! - FuzzyLogic   (Nov 15, 2010, 1:34 pm)
Sorry for the mixup guys, not a good week for me.

I got orders from the two missing... they both have affirmed it's what they would have ordered, and such seems to be the case from what I can tell, so I've got to minimize damage and move on.  Main difference is that Egypt succeeds in building their farm town, having been successfully supported in Alexandria by Memphis, thereby stealing the game rights from Scythia, making all the millions for themselves, and leaving Fredrik - still eliminated, but living instead in a cardboard box.  Smile  Sorry Fredrik, such is the risk and reward of a rampaging pillaging tribe.

Oh and Macedonia shuffles some guys around too...

Again sorry for the mixup.  Once a mistake is made, any resolution will make somebody unhappy, this seems to minimize the total amount of mal effects.  These are final.

For some reason I had it tagged as Friday, tho reviewing, I'd sent out a note indicating today / Monday.  Ok no choice but to continue to accept orders.  I can't very well impose an NMR when the player wasn't late.

A couple NMRs set the stage for this turn!  Most notably, the great empire of Macedonia leaves it's massive army of troops idle for the turn... but were the Greeks privy to information the rest of us were not?  For they take no losses anywhere as battles rage all around... and even manage - to build!

Scythians call an end to the rampaging and pillaging, and start a farm town in the foothills of Bithynia.  (rumor has it in 2225 years Facebook will make a game out of this and make millions as people get addicted to feeding each others' pigs).  The Scythian navy is sold off on Ebay, and emperor Fredrik retires a wealthy tribal leader.

Egyptians, thinking "let's settle down and just start up a farm town, maybe someday it'll turn into a game and make millions" get obliterated in Alexandria.  Retreat to follow.

The big blows this round seem to fall upon Carthage, who suffers the tactical loss of Cyrenaica.  Egypt attempts to restore order to Alexandria, but time will tell if it can last more than 6 mo... dc339 f218bc - Fashion? - FuzzyLogic   (Oct 12, 2010, 3:29 pm)
Hands down this round goes to Macedonia and Persia.  Is it not a wonder why those who make offerings to Him do better than those who do not?

Let the empirical data speak for itself, for the two offerings received this year beget one build each!  How is that for all you scientists.  Barbarians.  I tell ya...

And so without further ado, on to more important things!

aka... Fashion!

***************************************

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to that mad, mod, marvelous Mecca of Mediterranean models: Fashion Week in Cyrenaica!

Yes, the girls will be walking out soon to display the latest craze is seaside wear, and I know you're are all abuzz with that eternal question: What's hot, what's not? Maybe a little history can guide us to the answer.

In Spring 220BC, women threw out their native wear and welcomed Carthaginian Couture.

But by Spring of 219BC, all the ladies in the know were dressing like an Egyptian!

Until the following fall, of course, when Egyptian fashion stumbled on the runway and the Carthaginian look sprang back to its feet!

Now, a year later, will Carthage retain its grip on the Cyrenaician clothes hangar or will the fashion world be singing, "Don't want no fancy wardrobe, just one like Ol' King Tut!"?

Wait! The lights are going down, the music is starting up, the curtain is parting, and our first model down the runway is wearing . . . slippers and a veil!  Why, it's the Persian Look! Yes, fashion is ready for a wild magic carpet ride this season. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Which, in Cyrenaica, is never long.

***************************************

We have one retreat!  But the Germanian Army in Belgica could only go to Aliso so I just nudged it there and we move on to winter!

Carthage: Build 1 (no gain, but 1 unit disbanded)
Macedonia: Build 1
Persia: Build 1
Germania:  *may* opt to take Ali OTB and build something else instead.

Urgent Michael : game resignation - mjn82   (Oct 11, 2010, 2:18 pm)
Hey Michael,

Bad news.  One of my supervisors at work is going on disability for a couple of months.  The impact to me is that I will be doing her job as well as my own.  That won't be possible without clearing a lot off my plate.  I am going to have to step down from the game and though, I could send in orders now,  would rather give a replacement player the opportunity to dip and drive the ship.  I hope when things settle to get into a game and you have been one of the best GMs I have played with.  Fine group of dippers in this game too.

NEWSFLASH FROM MACEDONIA:
The Macedonian capital is recovering from a state of shock as it's relatively peaceful Prince was found poisoned in the royal palace. Security Forces will not discuss any suspects or evidence, but it is rumored that a large shipment of wine, believed to have originated in the Roman port of Napoli, was consumed at the state dinner last night. Soon after the news of the assassination was revealed, the top generals and admirals in the Macedonian navy convened and formed a shadow government that will rule for at least the rest of this year under a state of martial law. As its first act, the Shadow Government urgently dispatched orders to all Macedonian forces, overwriting previous orders and directing the forces to move West. Immediately afterwards, the Shadow Government announced that all official emissaries will continue to be received through the same channels that were used
to contact the deceased Prince. Long Live the Macedonians.
