DC 341: S1907 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Jan 11, 2011, 11:11 am)
The last orders trickle in. There was no need for retreat. Well, for the French army in Kiel, there was need, but there was not opportunity. Cut off in the prime of life, the Burgundian Brigade (BB) suffers a premature end. Born in the Winter of 1901, the BB spent most of its life in??? well, in Burgundy. After supporting A Mar-Bur in S1902, the BB advanced to Burgundy itself in F1902. There it stayed for three years until F1905 ??? sometimes supporting A Bel H, sometimes failing to enter Ruhr, sometimes supporting a failed effort of A Bel-Ruh. Then, in F1905, the BB had its breakthrough, advancing on a dizzying campaign of disruption into Ruhr, Munich, and (by retreat) Kiel. But sadly, in this Spring of 1907, isolated and exposed, the BB succumbed to a suffocating German assault. Fare the well, BB. You were taken from us too early. (Flowers may be sent to James Trickey at jdtsoft(at)jdtsoft.com).

Looking ahead to the Fall??? Will Turkey survive into 1908? It???s like a game of rock-paper-scissors. Matt Kelly, I???ve certainly appreciated your replacement assistance. I hope, for your sake, that we can appreciate it for another year. Or, in the words of the immortal poet:

???Oh, won't you stay
Just a little bit longer
Please let me hear
You say that you will???

Elsewhere, the French occupy Mid-Atlantic. The Italians occupy Piedmont, and the townspeople of Marseilles begin fleeing to the countryside. Russia???s northern fleets continue to assert themselves, occupying Norway and Liverpool. The Liverpudlians say, ???Da! Nyet! Slavsya Rossiya!??? (This last comment exists purely as an excuse to type ???Liverpudlian???).

The next deadline will be next Tuesday, January 18th, at the reasonable hour of 10:00 a.m. CST.

DC 341: F1906 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Dec 28, 2010, 10:11 am)
We must soon bid adieu to our first fallen leader. When Autumn ends and the first snowflakes of Winter descend upon the Tyrolean Alps, the Austrian armies will break camp and march into the fog of history. We will miss you, Jon. Your game started promisingly until, in 1903, the glory of Austria was betrayed by the fickle loyalty of Italy. As usual. Thereafter, your downfall seemed unavoidable, in spite of Italy???s best attempts to avoid it (by coughing up Venice). Thank you for fighting to the end.

At long last, an English home center falls. Pending retreats, it seems probable that a German home center will fall, too. Elsewhere, Italy picks up the last Austrian center. And Russia gains one (but only one) center from the Turk??? oh, and he gains Sweden.

A retreat order is needed from the French. No retreat order is needed from the dislodged Turk (but it???d be nice to receive one); he has but one viable option (though he may choose to disband and rebuild instead).

The French Army in Munich may retreat to Bohemia, Burgundy, Kiel, Silesia, or off the board.
The Turkish Fleet in Constantinople retreats to Aegean Sea unless Matt orders it to retreat off the board.

If we assume that France retreats into the unguarded Kiel, then the Winter adjustments will be:
Austria: Supp 0 Unit 1 Remove 1 (no order necessary)
England: Supp 2 Unit 3 Remove 1
France: Supp 7 Unit 6 Build 1
Germany: Supp 5 Unit 6 Remove 1
Italy: Supp 7 Unit 6 Build 1
Russia: Supp 11 Unit 9 Build 2
Turkey: Supp 2 Unit 2 Build 0

Not knowing who may or may not be around for the holidays, I am setting the Autumn retreats for next Tuesday, January 4. However, I will gladly adjudicate today, tomorrow, or Thursday, if I hear from both France and Turkey before then.

New Turkey, same old bastard neighbors.  Russia seizes Bulgaria and scuttles the
Turkish defenders.  Russia has welcomed
Turkey to the game by asking him not to overstay his welcome.

In the West, there???s a bit of good news for the
French, as a deftly aimed strike at Munich succeeds, thanks to some help from
the very probably doomed Austrians of Tyrolia.
Catie, you owe me a retreat by tomorrow!
But not all is good news for the AEF buddies.  Yes, German aggression may have been bopped
back a step, but Russian fleets pour across the North.  It will require a near-perfect orders ??? or a
timely change of allies ??? or perhaps intervention from a hypnotist ??? for England
to protect all its home centers.

Retreats:

German Army Munich may retreat to Berlin, Bohemia, Kiel,
Silesia, or off the board.

Russian Army Ankara retreats to Armenia unless Gareth asks
that it disband.

Due: tomorrow (Friday) at the usual 10:00 a.m. CST (16:00
GMT).

If I may??? do we think we can have Fall 1906 on Wednesday the
22nd?  If not, then I???ll have to postpone
until the 28th.  Well, I???m setting the
deadline for the 22nd, but if anybody objects, then it will be the 28th.

DC 341: F1905 Groups of Three - AceRimmer   (Dec 02, 2010, 11:25 am)
Just one retreat this season:

German Army in Ruhr may retreat to Kiel or off the board.

In accordance with my house rules, I am auto-adjudicating this one to Kiel; however, Catie can change the order to 'off the board' if she prefers. In that case, she'd have a build coming (which could be in Kiel anyway), and I would process her corrected retreat along with the Winter adjustments. That being the case, I'd advise other players assume that Catie will in fact disband and rebuild, just in case.

Winter adjustments are due tomorrow (Thursday) at 10:00 a.m. CST (16:00 GMT). Orders are needed from Austria, Italy, Russia, and Turkey (as Italy seizes Trieste from Austria, and Russia seizes Ankara from Turkey). Curiously, except for Austria, everybody's center count is an exact multiple of three. Numerologists everywhere rejoice.

It was a good year for ferry boat captains.  If you convoyed, you arrived safely at your

a good year.  On turns like this, where
almost every unit holds, supports, or bounces/fails, I like to do a little
thing I call The Abbreviated Adjudication.
In it, I list only the units that moved (don???t worry, the full

DC 341: A very befuddled F1904 - AceRimmer   (Nov 12, 2010, 12:04 pm)
After this season, we may need a clinic on movement orders.

First, the fleet on the east coast of Bulgaria cannot move to Aegean Sea or Greece. Nor can it support units to move to or hold in those provinces. And if it *could* support units in Aegean to hold, it would be strange to also order F Aegean-Greece.

Second, when supporting another player???s fleet to move, ???F Edi support F-Fleet into NTH??? is *barely* legitimate. Fortunately, Nathan verified his intent with me before the deadline. He has already been admonished to name the other fleet???s province of origin.

Third, you cannot order units you do not have. Such as armies in Apulia. It would be much wiser to submit orders for all of the units you do have. Like armies in Naples.

Fourth, ???F Ionian S - Adriatic Sea??? is ugly. Is it a support order, a movement order, or an invalid order? Originally I thought it should support. I???ve changed my mind. It is an invalid order and therefore holds. [Note: this order would be unambiguous if there had been no fleet in Adriatic to begin with; it could only have implied movement].

You lot are definitely not ready for Broadway Smile

Bearing all of that in mind, we somehow have no retreats. That means that Winter adjustments are due on Monday at 10:00 a.m. CST (16:00 GMT). England, Italy, and Russia have decisions to make.

Austria: Supp 2 Unit 2 Build 0
England: Supp 3 Unit 2 Build 1
France: Supp 6 Unit 6 Build 0
Germany: Supp 6 Unit 6 Build 0
Italy: Supp 5 Unit 6 Remove 1
Russia: Supp 8 Unit 7 Build 1
Turkey: Supp 4 Unit 4 Build 0

So, what actually did happen besides a lot of stepping on banana peels? Germany gained the North Sea. French and English units did not move at all. Russia sailed across the Black Sea to Armenia (things do not look good for Turkey). And Austria miraculously lost both his supply centers yet remains at a net zero change for the year. Shawn is no doubt just shaking his head in disbelief.

Austria retreats. (Or is this a strategic re-allocation of central business assets?). Summer 1904 is due Monday, November 8 at 10:00 a.m. CST (now 16:00 GMT thanks to Daylight Savings Time). I can adjudicate this afternoon if there???s a quick turnaround.

The Austrian army in Serbia retreats to Albania unless otherwise ordered.
The Austrian fleet in Ionian Sea may retreat to Adriatic Sea, Apulia, Tunis, or off the board.

Fall 1904 will be due Friday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m. CST (16:00 GMT).

In the West??? Germany gambles and leaves Holland unsupported. It works! The result is one disbanded English fleet in Skagerrak. Many units do not move, though German armies dance a little shuffle while French and Russian fleets advance on the flanks. Surely the winners in all this standoff are the Eastern powers, right?

In the East??? Austria???s future is looking very dour. Turkey???s is not much better. The Sultan suffers a bout of coastal confusion which wouldn???t have mattered anyway, since F Aegean failed to occupy Ionian. Still, Russian and Italian units are on the move everywhere. It???s a bloomin??? hornet???s nest, it is.
