DC 345: F1906 Adjudication - Viper   (Feb 06, 2011, 11:14 pm)
So... since I can't gain a survival by draw proposal, is there anyone who wants to talk to me?

Sorry for the delay. There was one set of straggling orders (which is noteworthy in that I think it's the first adjudication since the pre-game draft that has been delayed by late orders).
Adaria is worried by the green Hembrians around Iberia. Adaria builds a fleet on the Basque coast of Spain (north).
Hembria gives up the defense of the German homeland. Armies in Berlin and Kiel disband.
Zonotrichia refrains from overmilitarization. There's a new army in Sevastopol, but a second build is waived.
Happy February! Spring 1907 is due next Tuesday, February 8th, at the inscrutable hour of 3:00 CST (21:00 GMT)

You guys haven???t played long enough yet to earn a draw. Too many survivors left. I declare this draw proposal null and void. Go forth and conquer someone (or be conquered).

And buy some sunglasses, because that Zonotrichian green is getting to be noxious. Like some toxic sludge all over the eastern part of the board.

I don???t have much time to chat today, so it???s just the essentials. Yoko Zono seizes Moscow from Itea. Trigspor grabs (and disbands) Munich. Units all over the center of the map bounce/fail/cut.

This leaves two retreats.

Itean A Moscow auto-retreats to Livonia.
Hembrian A Brest may retreat to Gascony, Picardy, or off the map.

Please submit those tomorrow.

Then, absent any OTB retreats, Monday???s adjustments will be:

Adaria: Supp 8 Unit 7 Build 1

DC 345: S1906 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Jan 20, 2011, 4:52 pm)
It is a busy season for Hembria. Get dislodged? Check. Get stabbed by an ally? It would appear so; check. Witness the occupation of _three_ centers? Denmark, Paris, and Warsaw? Check, check, check. Dislodge an enemy from Munich? Check. Occupy enemy centers? Munich (and a retreat to Brest?)??? check. It just goes to show that, while you can change their name to Hembria and dress them up in forest green, the Germans are still everybody???s favorite bad guy.

This sets up three retreats (due tomorrow at the whimsical hour of 15:00 CST):
The Hembrian army in Paris may retreat to Brest, Picardy, or faerie dust.
The Itean fleet in North Sea may retreat to Helgoland Bight, Norway, Norwegian Sea, Skagerrak, Yorkshire, or faerie dust.
The Trigsporan army in Munich retreats to Bohemia unless Mr. Hoffman overrides the default with a disband.

But wait! The fun doesn???t end there. There is a proposal! If you play your cards right, there may be chocolates, flowers, and a nice dinner in it, too. The proposal is this:

Three-way draw: Adaria, Trigspor, and Zonotrichia.

Votes will be due next week with the Fall 1906 orders. In order to pass, votes must be received from all players. A single ???No??? vote or abstention will nix the proposal.

DC 345: Fall 1905 - AceRimmer   (Jan 10, 2011, 3:53 pm)
There is only one retreat: the Adarian army in Munich auto-retreats to Ruhr, which is good for the schedule, because it allows us to get Winter 1905 adjudicated before a player vacation from the 12th through the 17th.

Adjustments are needed from Adaria (disband), Itea (build), Trigspor (build), and Zonotrichia (build). They are due tomorrow at the usual 3:00 p.m. CST.

Then, I don???t think we???ll have Spring 1906 until January the 20th.

The undeniably intriguing move of the season has to be the Zonotrichian support of Trispor???s army in Tyrolia to seize Munich, thus dislodging Adaria???s army into Ruhr. In spite of all the center-captures in Vienna, Greece, and Smyrna, I remain uncertain of the relationships among Adaria, Trigspor, and Zonotrichia. I have my suspicions, but they will be validated or disproven by the actions on the board, where all ideas (good and bad) get purified in fire.

There are other moves of interest on the map as well. Itea also is forced to retreat, but as there are no open retreats, his army in Ukraine must disband; Warsaw looks vulnerable. Trigspor performs the uncommon but straightforward convoy of Naples to Tuscany??? really, when???s the last time you saw that? And the ongoing battle for the North Sea stalemates this season; equal supports cancel between North Sea and Belgium.

As we head into 1906, there sure are a lot of units packed in and around Germany (actually, they???re packed all along an arc from Gascony to Kiel to Sevastopol). Something must give!

DC 345: The Day After - AceRimmer   (Jan 03, 2011, 5:15 pm)
Last year, we saw the savage destruction of three once-glorious empires. But this morning, birds were singing, the sun was shining, and my daughter informed me that she could hear dinosaurs approaching. Life goes on, heedless of the corpses of the fallen.

There are an awful lot of successful moves this season. Indeed, if you tally those *unsuccessful* tags from the adjudications, there are only eight this season:

*Bounce* - 4
*Fails* - 2
*Cut* - 1
*Dislodged* - 1

Everything else proceeds according to plan.

Adaria accounts for half of those *tags*. Neatly, he has one of each: bounce, cut, dislodge, and fail. Trigspor, in contrast, got everything he wanted, including a pop gun for Christmas.

As you can infer from the above, there is one retreat. It belongs to Adaria. So, Maslow, which will it be? Fleet Smyrna retreats to: Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Syria, or off the board. Due tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. CST.

A more sober assessment of the turn notes that Itea at long last ends the unoccupied status of the North Sea, while Adaria consolidates his French holdings. Zonotrichia moves to complete his collector???s set of Turkish home centers, and he swaps centers with Trigspor as well. But with vacancies in Budapest, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Trieste, there is certainly dynamic tension in the Balkans.

I don???t want to alarm anybody, but we???re finally coalescing around some of the familiar mid-game country identities from Standard diplomacy (with occasional oddities). Adaria = France. Trigspor = Italy. Zonotrichia = Turkey. Hembria = Germany. Itea = Were-Hamsters. Okay, so not everybody is a traditional power yet.

If that's still not late enough (please, let me know... after all, it's your game, not my sadistic and Draconian scheduling exercise... though I do get a sort of sadistic pleasure from it...), then we can move S1905 to the Tuesday after Christmas.

This is a sad season in Dystopia.  Empires rise, and empires fall, but not like
this.  Not all at once.  This year, not only has an Empire fallen, but
so have The One Who Will Win and an innocent-sounding Spanish-Turkish candy
store called The Dulceria.  Perhaps we
should not have expected such yummy confections to survive long in this world
of sweet-toothed anarchists.

The following press release was found floating up on the
shores of a Norwegian fjord.  It contains
prophesies of the End Times and a promise for the eventual fulfillment of a
nation???s name:

???The "werehamster cure" has decimated
the armies of the harmless were-beasts. They have decided to change their
strategy. No longer will massed armies of rodents sweep across the
snow-covered plains. Instead, we will infiltrate homes, schools, and
pet shops and wait for our moment to strike. Then the world shall tremble
at our might. Humans shall be our servants, nay, our slaves. So continue
with your fruitless machinations. Our day will come. Our... day...
will... come...???

As the tattered banners of the Dulcerian, Imperial, and Were-Hamster
armies flutter in the wind, the survivors of this carnage ??? dare I call you the
Authors of This Armageddon ??? are left to ponder the immortal words of the 37th
President of the United States: ???You won't have Philip, Nathan, and John to
kick around anymore???.  And without them
to kick around, you???re going to have to find new targets.  Adaria, Itea, and Hembria have at least
established animosities in the north (though, of course, past animosities are
never binding in a game of Diplomacy).
But Trigspor and Zonotrichia will have to find new foes.

There is one retreat, which I am auto-adjudicating as Army
Rome disbands.  That brings up the Winter
adjustments, which are due tomorrow at 3:00 CST (21:00 GMT).  All survivors except Hembria owe me orders.  The DRE, Dulcerians, and Were-Hamsters don???t have
to trouble with disbands.  I???ve already
taken care of those.

DC 345: S1904 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Dec 10, 2010, 3:27 pm)
The combined might of four different nations conspires to???
leave the North Sea vacant.  Again, there???s
a lot of bouncing in this region of the world.
But with Hembria advancing to Edinburgh and the Norwegian Sea, I???d have
to say he gained a few feet of soil this Spring.  Maybe things would???ve been different if
Adaria had a unit in Liverpool.

     Paris prepares to
welcome visitors?  It just may be.  The gates are undefended, but if Hembria is
like your GM, he doesn???t really know what to make of that Zonotrichian army in
Bohemia.  And if he uses his army in Kiel
to safeguard Munich, doesn???t that open opportunities for the
Were-Hamsters?  Not to mention that Paris
is not the only possible target for that army in Burgundy.  Ooooh, my head hurts.

     Ankara and Naples
dismantle fleets.  It is possible, I
fear, that this Fall???s orders will be the last for three separate powers.  Possible, but is it probable?  For the record, I fancied the odds for all
three of them after we had completed opening selections.

There are no retreats.
So, I???m going to cheat by a day and set the F1904 deadline for next
Thursday at 3:00 p.m. CST (21:00 GMT).
