European Political Map Altered After Fall 1901 Campaign; New Units to Be Built by Winter

Blake Pynnonen

The military theatre that took place over the last season has made major changes to Europe's political map; most territories were seized without conflict, however Greece and Belgium were won with blood and guts - Greece going to Austria-Hungary in a contest over Turkey, and Belgium going to no one after a stalemate between an English-French coalition and a coordinated attack by German troops. The new map can be seen in the attachment.

In the last year, many of the region's rulers have manage to capture supply centers which will enable them to build new units for use in the Spring 1902 campaign. None of the rulers have yet lost supply centers, leaving only growth in the region's military units, with Germany gaining two units, England one, France two, Italy two, Austria-Hungary one, Turkey one, and Russia two. These units may be built any of the empty supply centers which the country already occupies (in the new map). The units will be built this winter, and the Gazette will be informed of the builds by this Sunday, midnight. These builds are to be done without communication to the other rulers. The deadline for Spring 1902 orders will be a week from this Sunday, at midnight. Any issues with this edition of the Gazette must be contested within 24 hours.

Germany Issues Press Release

Alexander Butler

Von Bloch watched the court yard intently. In the dim light of predawn, 2
men were deciding his future and that of the German Reich.

It
was silly really. All had begun with a careless boast by the head of the
diplomatic corps, Graf von Wallenstein: "If I were in charge of the
Army, our borders would reach from the Siberian wastes to the Iberian
peninsula." The Kaiser immediately reprimanded him that such baseless
boasts were not becoming of a man of his stature. That would have been
the end of it, had not Feldmarschall von Stauffen's adjutant and son
overheard the comment. He was furious, demanding a public apology. The
proud von Wallenstein refused, and things had derailed from there. They
ended in the only way such things could.  Von Stauffen had demanded
satisfaction. Von Wallenstein, knowing about von Stauffen's reknowned
skill with the sabre, chose the pistol.

So here he was. The two most powerful men in the Reich after the
Kaiser, duelling, at a mere 15 paces. And von Bloch was to take the
place of the deceased party.

The first rays of sunlight
illuminated the roof tops. The two secondes, their respective sons, went
about preparing the weapons. The prince himself was designated to over
see the procedures. He carefully marked and counted out the steps. Von
Wallenstein selected his pistol, with von Stauffen taking the other one.

The five men in the court took their position.

The sun finally fully illuminated the court yard.

"Aim!"
Von Stauffen raised his gun. "Fire!" The shot echoed loudly. Von
Wallenstein grunted and sank to his knees, his jacket turning red
slowly. "Return fire at will!"

Von Stauffen looked on in grim satisfaction and could not resist one
last slight. "The pen may be mightier than the sword, but the pistol is
mightier than either, my friend."

Suddenly, von Wallenstein
heaved himself to his feet. For the second time that morning, a shot
shattered the silence of dawn. The surprised look on von Stauffen's face
was frozen in death, his aged features disfigured by a bloody hole in
the middle of his forehead. "Truer words were never spoken," von
Wallenstein heaved with his final breath.

The onlookers were stunned. "It seems like you have inherited two
positions today, my friend." The voice of the Kaiser shook von Bloch
into action.

"Konrad! I need the six best messengers in the
Reich. I want a staff meeting of the entire military command in five
minutes, letters to our embassies must go out today!"

Von Bloch bowed low. "Your majesty, if you would excuse me?"

The
Kaiser nodded sagely. "Efficiency has always been one of your virtues.
The Reich depends on it that wisdom is also one. Go Feldmarschall, and
let history never forget your name."

"Jawohl, mein Kaiser!"

Gazette Issues New Deadline, Encourages Letters to the Editor

Blake Pynnonen

Since all of the orders from the spring campaign succeeded and no retreats have been forced, the rulers of Europe get to take a summer vacation and focus on the fall campaign. The deadline to issue the orders for the fall campaign are next Thursday at midnight (Eastern Time Zone, U.S.). The editors of the Allerton Gazette also encourage letters to the editors of this publication, as well as any press releases. In times of war, it's important to remain literate.

The Russian government has been overthrown again; Buck Hamil has seized power as Czar. The new political development has delayed the Spring 1901 campaign, as the other leaders of Europe may want to make adjustments. No orders from the Pre-Buck regime have been revealed, so it is of no consequence if the leaders of Europe wish to make changes in light of the arrival of Czar Hamil. War Delayed

The update on the war in Europe has been delayed by political overthrows in Russia and France. The other military leaders in Europe won't be able to make their next decisions until the orders from Spring 1901 have been revealed. The season will end when orders have been sent by the messengers of the new regimes in Russia and France.

The editors at the Gazette ask that the messengers put dc346 with a relative subject line (i.e. dc346: Fall 1901 Orders Turkey) to ease communication.

Contraction: Allerton Gazette - Ed. 1 - bpynnonen   (Oct 08, 2010, 9:40 pm)
Allerton Gazette

The editors from the Gazette would like to clarify that the orders are expected to be submitted by 23:59 pm EDT - this message is being written at 22:34 EDT.

In the event that orders are not received by the Gazette by the Wednesday night deadline, the Gazette may delay its reporting for another 24 hrs. In the year 1902, however, late orders will be recorded as holds, and that country's military will stand-pat for the season, reacting to the actions on the battlefield, accordingly.

Reporting from the Allerton Gazette, Europe has broke out in all-out war. Several regional powers have been taken over in recent coups, and the respective leaders are as follows:

Jose as Turkey
Sean as France
Phin (ancient memories) as England
Alexander (james blood) as Germany
Aaron as Russia
Warren (always hunted) as Italy
Oybert as Austria-Hungary

Unfortunately, for the innocent bystanders, the war is going to be slower than originally anticipated. The Gazette has insiders in each of the regions' factions; it will have rulers' orders in-hand by Wednesday midnight. The Allerton Gazette will report on the developments on the battlefield after it has collected all the information from the region.

The Game Will Start Soon! - alwayshunted   (Oct 07, 2010, 10:54 pm)
Hi Blake,

So hang on a sec here, let me get this straight. We find out what country we are playing Friday at midnight, and we get one day to get to know the other players before our orders are due? That's a bit quick for me, particularly since my computer often goes OFF Friday evening and goes back ON Monday morning.

It's okay, if that's the way you run things, but I might have to step back and let someone else take over my spot. I'm used to having a week or so to diplome between spring/fall moves.

Cheers,

Warren
