Oceania - 24 hour Delay from deadline Granted! - hapolley   (Nov 05, 2012, 6:09 am)
Players!  All moves are in but a player requested an extension for diplomatic reasons.  24 hour delay request is always granted!
New Deadline Monday (at) 24:00 hours MT!

With Warm Regards!

Subject: Oceania - This & That; Rules?

Deadlines are quite tight?
    Two_Weeks=One_Game_Year - Deadline Schedule:
        Sunday_(Spring_(at)2400), Tuesday_(retreats_(at)2400),
        Sunday_(Fall (at)2400), Tuesday_(retreats_(at)2400),
        Thursday_(Winter_(at)1600)
Maximum delay allowed for GM or Player 24 hours:
Miss a Retreat and the Unit is ORDERED OFF THE
BOARD!
No_Moves_Received and your units are ordered to HOLD!
FOR RETREATS & BUILDS THE GM RESERVES THE RIGHT
TO ADJUDICATE EARLY IF ALL ARE IN AND MISTAKE FREE.

I find players miss more deadlines when they are longer than above because they become bored or forget about the game because they put off getting in Orders. The above is not too long not too short.
If to that you were to add my auto-retreats and Civil Disorder moves then you have a fast pace interesting game.
Make use of the following form and you will find keeping up with deadlines is easy!
    1. (Unit Order) [Retreat List]
    2. (Unit Order) [Retreat List]
    9. (Unit Order) [Retreat List]

Standing Build List: A Mun, F Kiel, F Ber

Can an army Island hop through a sea space where an opposing fleet sits? YES! The rules do not forbid it and my adjudicator would require routines I do not wish to write to prevent same!

I was going to put in a couple of conditional retreats, but then I remembered that armies can't retreat over water.  And now that I examine that more closely, this variant continues to get more interesting.  Warren

I have always thought variants like this and my Cold War are more fun to play than regular Diplomacy, there is a learning curve though which discourages most players.

OCEANIA Fall 1901 Results! - hapolley   (Oct 30, 2012, 11:41 pm)
OCEANIA Fall 1901 Results:
[Winter 1901 Builds Due Thursday 01 Nov (at)1600hrs]

Marshall_Islands will need some good allied help because of slow growth, Japan on a tear, Indonesia invades Australian outback, New Zealand and US eye French territory!

Two Week Deadlines:
    Sunday(Spring(at)2400), Tuesday(retreats(at)2400),
    Sunday(Fall(at)2400), Tuesday(retreats (at)2400),
    [Thursday(Winter(at)1600)]

So far my Adjudicator is having less trouble with this game than it did with Colonial.

I am in a game with 1.Sp/Su, Fl/Wt turns it works but I am willing to go with different system.  How does 2.Sp/Su, Fl/Retreats, Winter two days after fall results sound?  Sun/Sun/Tues (Wt) deadlines sound?
Creating retreat list for each unit in danger of dislodgement and priority builds/Removals lists allow (1) to work.
I am willing to go with majority opinion and work different system.

There is no separate turn for Winter but, you may ask for separated seasons and a 48 hour extension for retreats or builds will always be given.

Until 1902 is over I will do this even without request if all Sm/Wt orders are not in!

I do not have Conditional builds from everyone so we can set a deadline of Sunday Nov 4 for Builds.  One player made a mistake, till 1902 I will give 24 hours for players to correct same.  This means that all can change orders till I adjudicate sometime tomorrow.  Stay safe from Sandy!

Hugh,
Lots of abbreviations, but it looks like an offer to have separate winter turns for 2days after fall retreats.  If I understood it right, that's good for me.

Oceania - Fall moves are in, Looking for Winter Co... - JonnyB2k   (Oct 29, 2012, 9:15 pm)
Hugh,
I'd like to put in a formal request that there be a separate winter move.  As Warren correctly points out, a lot can happen in the fall moves and I too would rather submit winter builds (or removes) after I know how the fall resolves.  This request is not just for this turn, but the entire game.

There is no separate turn for Winter but, you may ask for separated seasons and a 48 hour extension for retreats or builds will always be given.

Until 1902 is over I will do this even without request if all Sm/Wt orders are not in!

Please confirm this if you don't mind. I will send conditional builds if required, but I'd rather wait to see the fall turn.  There are an awful lot of possibilities.

Please confirm this if you don't mind. I will send conditional builds if required, but I'd rather wait to see the fall turn.  There are an awful lot of possibilities.

I prefer separate build and retreat phases as in original Diplomacy rules.

Hugh,
I'd like to put in a formal request that there be a separate winter move.  As Warren correctly points out, a lot can happen in the fall moves and I too would rather submit winter builds (or removes) after I know how the fall resolves.  This request is not just for this turn, but the entire game.
