DC456 Imperium - Winter 404 - Zoterik   (Jun 13, 2013, 6:34 pm)
Here we go, on to the fifth year of our game of conquest.  I'm sure there are many questions which need to be answered, but I'm too jet-lagged to think of any of them.  You guys probably know some of the answers anyway.

Spring 405 orders are due 17th June, roughly about 23:00 GMT.

Alamanni:
Build A Vindobona

Gothi:
Build A Byzantium

Saxones:
Build F Haithabu

Vandali:
Build A Castra Regina

DC 456 Imperium - Fall 404 - Zoterik   (Jun 09, 2013, 2:00 am)
The area that is to become Switzerland is very passable on this map, but all the same we have quite the traffic jam from Marseilles to Milan.  Here, the river is the roadblock.  Certainly will be interesting to observe that.  Two risky moves in the West both pay off, but they do neutralize each other-the Franci convoy to North England and the Saxones sail up the Rhine.  Now we advance into Winter 404, the first such season in which the Franci have no builds.  The rest of you can breathe easier and figure out what to do with your one.

I'm leaving Ukraine on 12th June.  If you guys can get in a complete set of orders on the 11th, I'll adjudicate then.  Otherwise, the deadline will be 13 June, time TBD depending on my jet lag and general condition.  And if I get out of Ukraine without visiting the militsa office.

The remnants of the Roman empire have, save for a few outlying cities, been claimed by the barbarian incursions.  Invariably, the tribes begin to turn against each other for the suddenly-scarce cities.  We have our first bounce since the end of the first year, and from now on will see if your strategies and negotiations have paid off.

Gentlemen, due to an unfortunate situation
involving my laptop and a bottle of wine, typing coherently now requires a
laborious process of selecting letters individually on Word, then copying and pasting
onto the internet. Communication will be succinct; adjudications directly from your emails.

DC456 - Imperium - Fall 403 - Zoterik   (May 22, 2013, 1:06 am)
As more of the Roman cities get swept into the burgeoning Germanic kingdoms, the future of Europe starts to take shape.  The Franci are probably the early threat to solo, but the Gothi are also in a good position should the current board leaders slip.  Italy may continue to be split down the middle in a manner of which Solomon himself would be proud.

No units were dislodged this turn.

Well now, what do we have here.  Peace continues in Italy as the Alamanni and Vandali expand side-by-side, while the Franci elect not to block Saxon growth.  The barbarians are now at the gates of Rome, encroaching upon Egypt, laying claim to Iberia, and sailing towards the Alban shores.  There has been no fighting since the first year as nations expand and try to get an advantage over their neighbors, and I look forward to when the greedy barbarians look towards each other for conquest, rather than towards the rich Roman cities.

Fall 403 deadline is 21 May at 08:00 GMT.

DC456 - Imperium - Winter 402 - Zoterik   (May 12, 2013, 12:34 am)
After two years, the main story-lines appear to be the close-quarters fight between the Alamanni and Vandali, the potentially unchecked growth of the Franci and Gothi, and the question of from where the Saxones might get their next build.
But of course I could be well off the mark.

I feel as though I'm watching Oprah:  everybody doubles their centres!  Some moves were easily-anticipated, others were well-calculated.  But the Franci still command the lead.  It's worth mentioning that this game has twenty-eight supply centers; fifteen are required for the solo victory.

And they're off!  The Franci round the first turn with a slight advantage as the race for supply centres begins in earnest.  The Vandali and Alamanni will likely have a feud over the ruins of Rome, while the Saxones aim for a classical revival in Greece, and the Gothi head into Anatolia, possibly with the fertile Egyptian floodplains in mind.

Europe, which not long ago felt overcrowded, is now quite barren.  All the units which remain after the Great Purge lie within the borders of the quickly-falling Roman Empires.  We bid farewell to the Hunni (who can continue to receive the adjudications if desired), and enter a phase of the game which may proceed with some haste.  Your commentary on deadlines' lengths will be much appreciated.

DC456 - Imperium - Fall 401 Adjudication - Zoterik   (Apr 30, 2013, 2:32 am)
The big winner of the first-year sweepstakes is... the Franci!  Courtesy of quite a gamble, they manage to finagle a second supply centre while most others must be content with one.  However, doom has befallen the Hunni, those brave warriors who just could not catch a break, despite Vandali efforts.  The Alamanni and Vandali get into a scuffle over the Alpine region, which for now ends in a stalemate.  As Roman authority crumbles, the five remaining players now eye with greed and envy the wealth that waits to be claimed.

One unit was dislodged, but there is no effect on the supply centres.  I'll let you do Autumn and Winter simultaneously, but I will adjudicate the sole Gothi retreat.  Look below the orders for retreats/adjustments.

DC456 Spring 401 - Zoterik   (Apr 25, 2013, 2:26 pm)
It is a tale of two falling empires!  In the West, organization reigns and all four powers can breathe a little easier than they might have done.  In the East, meanwhile, the Gothi have likely secured one centre and can seize the balance of power.

Now turns will get shorter, as I perceive the level of diplomacy to be less than previous.  But you can petition for more time if you need it.
