Unfortunately, a Peruvian retreat was never actually received. As per my house rules, as the Summer is a minor season the game will keep moving without player replacement. Peru's army in Venezuala is retreated OTB and we continue on. Other retreats include New York falling back to Vermont and the Heartlands retreating to Chicago.
Deadline for Fall 2003 will be set for Thursday, January 31st (11:59 PM GMT).

Words from the Cookies of Fortune in Fall 2003 read: Don't kiss an elephant on the lips today.
Always wise advice, I figure. But there's some elephant kissing and elephant pooping all around the board - falling hardest on Peru, Texas and the Heartlands. New York recovers from the Spring surprise to inflict some nasty damage, Mexico wrests control of the last neutral center from Peruvian hands and all of Florida's fleets in the Carribean seem to have fallen asleep at the wheel. (Must be that Bermuda Triangle..)
Four retreats are required after the Fall carnage. Quebecs fleet in Nunavut, Peru's navy in Nicaragua and Heartland armies in Beauce and Chicago all need to find new homes. Deadline for the Early Winter 2003 retreats will be set for Saturday, February 2nd (11:59 PM GMT).

In the Fortune Cookie Crumbs: The Rubber Bands Are Heading in the Right Direction
As the Heartland and Quebec hope they are heading in when they retreat to Milwaukee and the Sea of Labrador respectively. Heartland retreats the Beauce army OTB as well. As for Peru, I did not receive a retreat and thus, as per my HR's, retreated the fleet OTB. (Alex, please let me know if I erred and you have an order confirmation from me.)
With that we head into Winter 2003 Adjustments. Please have all orders in by Monday, February 4th (11:59 PM GMT).

And, in fact, several units find their way to that parking lot down below as forces vanish from the board in Kansas, Missouri and Dallas. Meanwhile, Florida recruits new talent in Tampa and Jac, Cuba finds more revolutionaries in Kin, California launches a new Silicon Valley design team in San Diego, and some toughs come into the action in Phillie. New York also transforms some garbage scows into man-o-wars, and Mexico wakes the slumbering Banditoes from their siesta and puts them to action in Gua and Mex.

Crunching this season's cookie, we find: Alas! The onion you are eating is someone else's water lilly.
The connotations of this one are endless, as the Heartland regains control of Chicago but loses Ontario, Cuba lands troops in South America even as Florida lands troops beside Havana and California and BC continue on their march to the Atlantic. Some familiar patterns become more entrenched, but there are some new fireworks making their presence felt on the board....
Several retreats are required after all of this. Heartland owes two and New York and Peru both owe one. Deadline for the Summer retreats will be set for Monday, February 11th (11:59 PM GMT).

A lesson learnt well by both Quebec and Cuba, and taken especially to heart by the Texans. Squeezed on all fronts, Texas joins the turbulence of the middle of the board and when the smoke clears, we find that the phrase 'Remember the Alamo' lies only in the history books. My thanks to Nathan for throwing his hat into this particular nest of scorpions, and for playing it out although stung rather severely. =)
There are some massive changes on the SC count for the winter, but first we have four Early Winter retreats. The two Texas retreats are academic, however New York must retreat the army in Maine and Peru must relocate from Panama. Deadline for the Early Winter retreats will be set for Sunday, February 17th (11:59 PM GMT).

We're currently short one batch of orders for Winter 04. Unfortunately, Rob warned me that he was in a series of catastrophic hardware problems and that he might need a little extra time. As such, I'll push out the deadline for adjustments until tomorrow evening at 11:59 PM GMT.

In the cookie crumbs of Winter 2004: Eat your vegetables and you'll grow up big and strong like Popeye...
Some of you have definitely been eating those veggies, as the builds take place around the board. Florida builds two armies, New York one, British Columbia an army and a fleet and California builds two armies and a fleet. Meanwhile, Quebec disbands their troops and Cuba scuttles a couple fleets.
One final shout-out to Nathan, our Texan, who never faltered despite the obvious hopelessness of the situation. Thanks for playing it out to the bitter-sweet end...
