DC-184 Game Start - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
I'd like to welcome you all to the game. I've got
seven confirmed sets of country preferences, and now
seven assigned countries. I've listed country
assignments below, and attached my house rules. Since
they're not exactly the same as DC's standard rules,
I'd suggest getting to know them.
I hope everybody is satisfied with the assignments
they've been given. I'm fairly certain you all got
either your first preference or your second.

The Players:

Austria: Pontus Nilsson pontus(at)wallmanderco.se
England: Kevin Leblanc kevinleb94(at)hotmail.com
France: Scott Lapp pyrasea(at)yahoo.com
Germany: Roger Strand PellefantSpam(at)gmail.com
Italy: Chris Morse camorse22(at)yahoo.com
Russia: Ross Webb rodtheworm(at)hotmail.com
Turkey: Sean Walsh sean.ayearaway(at)gmail.com

The Deadline:

Spring 1901 is due Friday, 23 May at 2pm CST/CDT (7pm
GMT.) This should be plenty of time to get your Game
Start negotiation done.

If anyone has a vacation, holiday, broken toilet,
amputated limb, etc. that will cause a delay or may
take you away from your email for any period of time,
please let me know as soon in advance as possible. I
keep a very pretty table of deadlines (for *all* my
games) open on my computer at all times, and I can add
in any scheduled absences I'm informed of. This makes
it very easy to plan game turns around people's
personal lives, so please don't ever NMR with the
excuse that I made it too difficult for you to meet a
deadline.

I've recently discovered that RealWorld (an improved
version of RealPolitik) can handle a substantial
amount of variants - many more than RP. Because of
this, I have begun to use RW exclusively. Therefore, I
will provide, with every adjudication, a .dpy (RP)
file AND a .dpw (RW) file, as well as a JPEG file. I
intent to use the output from the 'Save Status' option
in RW in the adjudication - you'll all see what that
looks like with the first turn's results. It's easy to
read and gives all the information a player could want
about his moves and position as well as those of his
boardmates.
However, if anyone, for any reason, is unsatisfied
with the appearance of the adjudication (again, you'll
have to wait until the first one comes out to see,)
feel free to let me know at any time, and I can fall
back on a trusty old system that looks pretty (but is
more time consuming.)
Again, any questions at any time are welcome, and
will receive a prompt response. I look forward to
running this game for you. As I've said many times in
the past, this is not my game, I'm just facilitating
it for you. You, the players, own this game. Make it
what you want it to be.

Thanks all,
The White Wolf

DC-184 New England, New Deadline - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
I'm happy to announce the quick response of our new England. Mark (mdemagogue(at)gmail.com) will be stepping in from here on out.
The new Spring 1902 deadline, in order to facilitate negotiations, is Wednesday, 2 July at 2pm CST (7pm GMT.)

Mark,
I forgot to send you my house rules, so they're attached. Please pay particular attention to the section that tripped up your predecessor. You miss a deadline and you get 24 hours grace to get me orders. You miss another one and you're out, no questions, no grace.

Other than that, everybody have fun. Talk to the new guy. Send in revised orders if you'd like. If not, I've got prelims from everybody but England, so you're covered.

Thanks and Welcome,
The White Wolf

DC-184 Spring 1902 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
All,
I'm sure we've all seen the email from Kevin. I don't mean to sound harsh, but his responsibility was to inform me before he went on vacation. Kevin violated that responsibility, so the replacement was necessary.
I apologize for not adjudicating last night - a friend flew in last night from out of town, and in the cleaning frenzy, I completely forgot about Diplomacy. So sorry, I'll try to avoid that mistake in the future.

Headlines:

RUSSIAN FORCES EXPAND NORTH, SOUTH
Russian forces were spotted in Turkish and English territory this week, as fleets in Norway and Ankara, signal all out war with the Bear's neighbors. In related news, Rumania fell to a joint Austro-Turkish assault, drawing battle lines in very dangerous colors.

GERMANY, FRANCE SHORE UP FRONT LINES
Armies amassed along the border between France and Germany, setting the stage for a potentially devastating border skirmish. Speculators in the wine industry expect the price of Burgundy vintages to rise exorbitantly.

ITALIAN ARMIES SIGHTED NEAR AUSTRIA, AGAIN
Austrian forces in Trieste repelled an Italian incursion attempt yet again this week, while a regiment of Italian troops covertly landed in Albania under cover of coastal bombardment from the Ionian Sea. The consuls in Serbia and Greece have sued the Austrian government for peace, citing fears of potential fighting in major cities. The Austrian government has yet to respond.

ENGLISH SAILS OFF FRENCH NORTH COAST
The English Channel, long a peaceful zone between England and France, was full of British flags this week. The French armada in Brest tried valiantly to hold off the British invasion, but was severely outgunned and forced to fall back to the coast.

DC-184 Still no England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
I'm sorry to say that England never wrote me last night. As the deadline was *Wednesday,* I'm preempting my two-NMR rule in favor of immediate replacement. However, if Kevin contacts me before I find a replacement, I will allow him the typical second chance (as per my house rules,) in the hope of keeping the game moving more fluidly.
If anyone has a problem with this, please let me know so I can consider alternate points of view.

Mods,
How do I go about getting the game up on the Open Games page for a replacement?

1266 / DC-184 GM is a Dummy - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
It seems I sent out deadline reminders for both of
these games a day early... I apologize profusely for
confusing and worrying so many people. The real
deadline for both games is still more than 39 hours
away.
Don't let that be an excuse for being late, however.
Remember, DCers, I will replace anyone defaulting on
the first turn. That instantly shows me a severe lack
of interest in the game, as well as a lack of respect
for your fellow players.
Thanks to everyone who has gotten orders in already,
by the way. You make my life a little less stressed.

Headlines:

WAR INDUSTRIES GEAR UP FOR BUSY WINTER
As the warring nations of Europe fall further into the depths of madness, heavy industry across the continent is preparing for a major increase in output. All seven countries are expected to build new ships and tanks and raise new troops this winter, in expectation of more battles in the coming year. How the borders may be redrawn, or how long this terrible war will last, has yet to be seen. The future looks dark, indeed.

BATTLE IN THE LOWLANDS
German and French forces collided in Belgium this week, causing panic among the populace. As French troops attempted to take the city, German army and naval forces worked in perfect unison to force their opponents back to wine territory. While not a major setback for the fast-growing French, this is certainly a boon to the German military, which expects to double its numbers before spring.

AUSTRIANS RECEIVE MIXED MESSAGES FROM NEIGHBOR
After the failed Italian invasion of Trieste in the spring, the last thing Viennese forces expected to encounter this week was an Italian escort into the previously contested territory. That is exactly what happened, though, as troops from Venice helped to guarantee the safe passage of Austrian troops into what was expected by many to remain a war zone.

DC-184 GM's a Dummy - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
It's just been brought to my attention that I announced the Winter 1901 deadline as the 6th of June. As I'm sure is already obvious, I meant the 11th. My deepest apologies.
As a reminder, I already have three sets of adjustments. The 11th is this Wednesday. Don't be late.

Humbly,
The White Wolf

DC-184 Missing England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
I've just sent Kevin an email, giving him a last chance to stay in the game. If I don't hear from him by tonight, I'll ask for a replacement on the DC Open Games list. Guess we'll have to hold off on the Winter adjudication for now.

Sorry,
The White Wolf
