DC190 - Spring 2008 - DamienThryn   (Jan 07, 2009, 10:21 am)
Why am I always the one to cause the troubles? For everyone? Its a wonder I've not been knocked out of the game already by those I've annoyed...

But with that bounce, Oce controls the straight, restricting F BEN's movement. So perhaps F Sia moves into SCS... but then F Jak - Sia also works and leave the strait uncontrolled from the Jak side and we get the bounce all over again. Blech!

Fortunately, one of my friends who was involved in the testing was online and we were able to discuss the problem and came to a consensus about what we should do. We came up with this addition to the strait rule:

A unit that has control over a strait loses control over the straight if it moves to the same place as a unit moving through the strait in question.

In this situation, what that means is: SIA and BEN bounce in SCS. Because SIA moved to the same place as BEN, SIA no longer can stop BEN from moving through the strait. Had the support from HKG not been cut, BEN would've successfully gotten through the strait. I think this is the best way of resolving the current problem. Michael,

odd, I feel I have been denied something I'm entitled to but I can't disagree with your analysis and conclusion.

Now for this scenario:
in addition to the orders BEN - SCS, SIA - SCS, and JAK - SIA, a unit is ordered into JAK.
What would have been the outcome then? Which of the rules prevails in this case: the unit moving out of the strait-controlling center giving up its control, or the 2 units moving in to those centers?

Frank

To stop the whole world from exploding, I think I'm going to graciously let Oceania have SCS next year.

Didn't think trying to raid Taiwan for RAM chips again would be so complex...

In the case that another unit moves to Jakarta I'd have to say the SIA - SCS is successful along with all the subseqent moves... I'll have to try to come up with a succinct way of writing it as a rule to cover that possibility.

ps. Thanks for finding the hole in the rules... that's what test games are for. Incidentally, you can read about the development process of the map in the latest version of Diplomacy World Magazine... they've decided my story is compelling enough to share with everyone.

DC190 - Problem Solved (Winter 2007 reminder) - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Dec 18, 2008, 10:19 pm)
Well... after some fairly lengthy work the map is back and better than ever. I think I've even managed to improve the colors a bit and the strait between London and Holland no longer looks like it involves Paris. AND I've put the units in as an extra layer so they won't get lost any more and adjudication will become a whole lot easier. Good news all around!

That is, except that I'm still missing two adjustments. I give you until Saturday, December 20, 1600GMT to get those in or I will have to waive the build/auto-disband.

Hey everyone... I've got bad news... bad news... and then some news that makes the bad news more bearable.

1) I don't have adjustments from everyone yet. The deadline was on Tuesday, but I've giving extra time because of #2.

2) I messed up the map big time. I decided to try something to make it harder for me to lose units so often and have now discovered that I saved the units right onto the background. So basically, I have to redo the entire map. Sucks for me.

3) The better news is that I've managed to find a basic map with just the original coloring and no names or units on it, so that'll cut down the time needed significantly. Please have patience as I try to put that back together.

In the meantime, I welcome the missing orders and I'll get back to you when I can. (Note: the next map may hark back to the paint days, just so I can get it out.) We won't run the next spring moves until after the holidays.

I've got the map done. I've assumed the retreat into the South China Sea on the map... if SAm wants otherwise, just let me know.

So we move on to the adjustments of Winter 2007, still due on Tuesday, December 16, 2200GMT.

Hey everyone.

I'm really starting to feel bad about this... but I've apparently messed up on the map again. I don't know how I seem to always miss one unit... I always double check it, but it seems that's not quite good enough. I'm trying to be more diligent with it, but since I redo the map every time, 70 units can be a little tough to keep track of. I envy those who are using RealPolotik (or whatever it's called)

The missing unit this time is South Africa's A N'Djamena. We'll have another pause until Tuesday to get revised orders.

I strongly suggest double checking your units on the map against those in the adjudication. I'm still doing pretty well at getting that part right, so if the map is different than the adjudication please let me know so I can make the changes.

Alas, in the flurry of revised orders after the return of F Boston from its tea party, I missed one of the changes... in the moves below, please notice the change in West Africa's orders to say F Cape Verde Sea - Trinidad & Tobago. Obviously, that also means that one option is removed from South America's possible retreats. Sorry for the error... thanks for picking it up. The new map is attached.

Next Deadline: Let's have the retreats for Summer 2007 done by Saturday, November 29, 2200GMT

DC190 - and I'm back! - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Nov 24, 2008, 11:08 am)
Well... that took a lot more of my time than I'd anticipated. I spent three days away from home and then when I got home there was a bit of an emergency to take care of. No worries, though, everything is fine and everything's back to normal. Here's the thing, though... I realize now that I neglected to tell everyone before I left that there is a missing F Boston that belongs to Mexico. Since that might affect some orders, I'll delay my adjudication for one more day to give you a chance to amend your orders, if necessary. Adjudication will occur Tuesday at around 11pm Central time.

Sorry for all the confusion. I should be back at full capability for the long term now.

DC190 - Spring 2006 - guess what? - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Oct 18, 2008, 12:21 am)
Hey everyone,

so I sat down this afternoon to finish off the adjudication and I was in the middle of finalizing everything and got to thinking... something doesn't seem right in the heart of Africa. So I took a second look and to my shock and dismay, I discovered that South Africa was missing A N'Djamena. How that happened, I don't know... probably along the same lines that kept F Indian Ocean off the board for a while. But, thankfully, I caught it before sending anyone's moves out. So, everything's now been fixed, another map is coming out, and I guess I'll have to give some more time for revisions of moves. Since I'm pretty sure some of you do this from work (or something like that) I'll move it back all the way to Tuesday, October 21, 2100 GMT and this time, it's for real!

Sorry, guys... I'll try to be a little more vigilant in the future.

the map - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Oct 16, 2008, 1:01 am)
Hey guys... so the computer that has the map on it wasn't connecting to the internet for the last couple days so the revised map was held hostage by my hard drive. But, here it is. I'm really sorry about the delay. Because of the circumstances I'm going to reset the deadline again to Friday just to make sure everyone knows what's going on... but on that note, if I have no orders from anyone by Friday (2100GMT) I probably won't be too forgiving... so get something in, please.

DC190 deadline - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Oct 13, 2008, 12:02 pm)
Hey everyone, I just realized that I haven't redone the map to include Oceania's F Indian Ocean yet. I won't be able to do that until much later today, so I'm going to extend the deadline until Thursday unless everyone doesn't care and still gets their moves in earlier marked as "final" orders. I'll send out the map this evening.

DC190 - Winter 2005 - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Oct 09, 2008, 5:03 pm)
It would appear that Oceania's fleet in the Indian Ocean is taking a slight holiday. I assure you it will be back and it will be back with a vengeance. As soon as I can I will add it to the map and because of the way I make it, that fleet will be much larger than others, but will, of course, count only as one.

My apologies for any inconvenience.

West Africa:
