PREV  Fall 1936 Adjudication:  NEXT

ACD233 / DC276: “A Nordic union between Scandinavia and Great Britain, with the adherence of Finland and Holland, and in which Germany and eventually the British Dominions and America might later on be absorbed, would take away the sting of any communist combination and secure European civilization and peace for the foreseeable future.”- Forer (Fuhrer) Vidkun Quisling, leader of Norway under the Nazis

With the capture of Oslo by the Germans from the Soviets, it seemed appropriate to bust out this quote from everyone's favorite Nazi collaborator. As you may have guessed by now, the French did not win this season, although they did inch closer by picking up one more net SC to reach 31 (one short of victory at 32). Besides the obvious loss of Brazil, the key move preventing French victory was the German's other gain in French-controlled Hungary. All in all, it was a banner year for the Third Reich, which moved into second place while keeping the game alive.

It is lucky for the English-speakers of the world that the Wehrmacht stepped into action, as a tactical snafu around Scotland led to the French retaining control of the Tartan north of Britain. The Americans had a quiet year on the scoreboard, but a strong year on
the strategic front, setting up their fleets in excellent defensive position in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The British Empire continued its eastward migration losing SCs on the Old Continent and the Indian sub-continent, but making gains in China and Argentina. The Chinese were the beneficiaries of British losses in South Asia, but were knocked down 2 SCs overall by substantial losses in the motherland. The Japanese Imperial Army was heavily involved there, gaining 2 and losing 1 in China. Like the British, the Soviets are drifting east, losing London and Leningrad, but gaining Tashkent.

The Fall Retreat 1936 deadline will be Fri Jan 8th. Orders are needed from the British and French. The Winter 1936 deadline is Mon Jan 11th. The subsequent deadlines will be on schedule again on Thu Jan 14th and Thu Jan 21st.
