DC 345: Autumn and Winter 1903 - AceRimmer   (Dec 06, 2010, 3:06 pm)
Anonymous Press:
"Scientists have discoved a cure for Phodanthropy, which has been mass-produced and used against the Were-Hamsters with tragic results. We plead with the international community to cease the proliferation of chemical warfare of this sort, which indiscriminately kills soldier were-hamsters and non-combatant were-hamsters alike. Also, the race of were-hamsters is nearing extinction as a result of these vile tactics. We must all work together to stop this violence, or the world may have seen the last of these noble, majestic creatures. A world without were-hamsters is not a world in which I want to live. I am sure you feel the same."

DC 345: F1903 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Dec 03, 2010, 3:42 pm)
Fall 1903 comes bouncing in. Fourteen different units (41%) bounce in seven different locations, and only one of those is a self-standoff. The upshot? A lot of nobody going nowhere. Only five units actually move:

Adaria: F ECh ??? Lon
Hembria: A Pru ??? War
Itea: A Fin ??? StP
Trigspor: F GoL ??? TyS
Zonotrichia: A Rum ??? Arm

All other units hold their ground, except for the Were-Hamsters. There are two retreats for the Were-Hamsters:

Were-Hamster A St Petersburg can retreat to Livonia, Moscow, or off the board.
Were-Hamster A Warsaw can retreat to Livonia, Moscow, Ukraine, Galicia, or off the board.

It???s also a season for miscommunications with Trigspor. Adaria offers support into Rome, but it???s not accepted. (DRE maintains its two centers!) Trigspor supports Zonotrichia into Bulgaria, but Warren takes a ferry to Armenia instead (Ankara is in peril!).

John???s retreats will be due on Monday (3:00 CST / 21:00 GMT).

Assuming he keeps his units on the map, the Winter adjustments will be:
Adaria: Supp 7 Unit 7 Build 0
DRE: Supp 2 Unit 2 Build 0
Dulceria: Supp 3 Unit 3 Build 0
Hembria: Supp 7 Unit 6 Build 1
Itea: Supp 3 Unit 2 Build 1
The_One_Who_Will_Win: Supp 1 Unit 3 Remove 2
Trigspor: Supp 5 Unit 5 Build 0
Zonotrichia: Supp 6 Unit 6 Build 0

I???m going to go out on a limb here and make Winter 1903 due on Monday, too! Same time. If Mr. Falcon or Mr. Penner request, I will push adjustments back to Tuesday, but I think we can handle it.

DC 345: Deadline Friday - AceRimmer   (Dec 01, 2010, 11:35 am)
Well, I'm back from my travels. We have a deadline on Friday for Fall 1903. However, I already have six sets of orders. Just two more needed. I'll adjudicate earlier if all of you (and I mean all of you) tell me to. Otherwise, Friday isn't that far away.

Y'all knew this already, but it's my job to make it official.
The Were-Hamsters retreat to Skagerrak.
The next deadline is not until Thursday, December 2nd at 3:00 CST (21:00 GMT). The delay is because of Thanksgiving... and because I will be traveling through midweek.

So, we???re stuck with a boring old adjudication. There is one retreat:

The Were-Hamster fleet in North Sea may retreat to Edinburgh, Helgoland Bight, London, Norwegian Sea, Skagerrak, or off the board.

In general, action seems to have centered on the North Sea and St. Petersburg in the north. In the south, there was a general repositioning all around The Boot, including an unused support from Tuscany. Zonotrichia and Dulceria were the very model of immobility (excepting that army traveling to Serbia). Things are beginning to look re-e-e-e-eally grim for The One Who Will Win. It may be time to trot out the blackmail material on your enemies...

The Summer 1903 deadline is Monday at the usual time. Due to the American Thanksgiving holiday, Fall 1903 will not be until Thursday, December 2nd! Please note that and get your prelims in soon anyway.

[By the way, this crew has been absurdly punctual on orders??? it???s an absolute dream to GM when everybody has submitted order eight hours before the deadline. Thanks.]

Let's go with:

Final.

Tomorrow is Veteran???s Day. I won???t be around. So, Autumn 1902 retreats are due on Friday at 3:00 CST (21:00 GMT). The retreats are both from??? yup. The Were-Hamsters.

The Were-Hamster fleet in Denmark may retreat to Baltic Sea, Helgoland Bight, Skagerrak, or OTB.
The Were-Hamster fleet in Norway may retreat to Barents Sea, North Sea, St. Petersburg (nc), or OTB.

Press from the Democratic Roman Empire:
The Senate is dead, may the Empire rule.

Press from Hembria:
My moves may speak for themselves, but I thought a little explanation was in order. I ask you one question: how would you react if your discussions went like this: http://video.ca.msn.com/watch/video/evil-hamster-attack/1glhar6j2?from=en-ca-hpquad

Were-hamsters or just hamsters, I've taken my rabies shot and I'm ready for war!

In case you???ve missed it, the Were-Hamsters were attacked by a coalition of Hembrian and Itean forces. Things did not go well for the Were-Hamsters. Rumors are that they were betrayed by a Gerbil spy. The results are a little complicated, but The One Who Will Win loses Berlin and Norway for a net -2. Itea loses Denmark and gains Norway for no net change. Which, of course, leaves Hembria at +1. Hembria exhibits an unusual trend from this year: all the countries that had a net gain this year gained *two* centers AND *lost* one center. Funky.

In fact, let???s review that scoreboard, shall we? It???ll help prep you for next Monday???s adjustments. (Remember, we???re using chaos builds).

Assuming that the Were-Hamsters do not retreat off the board, this year???s winners are:

Adaria (+Belgium, +Spain, -Marseilles): +1
Hembria (+Berlin, +Norway, -Belgium): +1
Trigspor (+Marseilles, +Venice, -Spain): +1

The no-change crew:

Dulceria
Itea (+Norway, -Denmark)
Zonotrichia

And the oppressed:

DRE (-Venice): -1
The One Who Will Win (-Berlin, -Norway): -2

The Standings:
Adaria 7
Hembria 6
Zonotrichia 6
Trigspor 5
Dulceria 3
The One Who Will Win 3
Democratic Roman Empire 2
Itea 2

For the record, if you had asked me before S1901 what the standings would be right now, you???d see that I don???t know what the heck I???m talking about. Don???t get me wrong??? I got a couple of picks right??? but on the whole, this is not what I expected.

Fall 1902 Adjudication:

Adaria:

There is one retreat. Itea, you knew it would be you.

F Denmark may retreat to Helgoland Bight, Skagerrak, or off the board.

Please submit your order by tomorrow at 3:00 CST (20:00 GMT).

Fall 1902 will be due next *Wednesday* at 3:00 CST (20:00 GMT). Note: I usually give a full week between movement adjudications, but since Thursday is Veterans Day here in the states, I won???t be near my computer??? (If you prefer a Friday deadline, let me know before Monday, and it will be so.)

Dystopia is a muddled place. The muddling is complicated by the fact that I can???t figure out Zonotrichia???s orders just by looking at the map... the arrows blend right in with the background. Still, can such stealth save him? The Were-Hamsters are in Ukraine and were bounced out of Galicia. The Hembrians are in Bohemia. The Dulcerians are in Armenia. Has Warren stumbled into a trap?

And raise your hand if you know what???s going to happen in the Western Med! Uh huh. Hey, you back there... yeah, the guy with his hand in the air??? yeah, you! You???re lying. Get your hand down. The DRE protects everything from Ionian to Rome, but Adaria instead hits Piedmont and Tuscany. Trigspor lurches into Marseilles, but Adaria shifts into Gascony. Is somebody playing mind games with me?

And the muddle in and around the North Sea. With so many fleets cheek-to-jowl, will those alliances be in shipshape, or will one of them ship out to sea? Will somebody give Itea an opening for some revenge?

As usual, there are plenty of opportunities for intrigue and catastrophe waiting just around the corner in Fall 1902.

By the way, if you are wondering how to handle The One Who Will Win, there is information on the Internets... you may wish to check out the Uncyclopedia:

http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Werehamster

In particular, "If you are attacked by a werehamster, and don't want to become one, there are several ways to defend yourself from the savage rodent. Werehamsters, like werewolves, are allergic to silver. However, in their case it is only severe enough to cause mild itching and will not deter a truly determined attack. Killing a werehamster is unadvised as they are an endangered species and may return as zombies to haunt you at a later date. If you must kill a werehamster however, a stab to the heart with a carrot usually does the trick."

On the other hand, "werehamsters make great pets. They are affectionate, loving, and their fur is extremely soft and hypoallergenic."

You are correct, John.  Dulceria will not need to build nor disband this winter (pending his retreat).  However, he is -1 SC since the beginning of the game.

On a separate note:

In my adjudications, I present your orders *as written* (copied and pasted).  This way, you see the orders exactly the same way as I receive them.  (This way, if -- as in the last game I GM'd -- your unit supports an opposing army to go to a province named "Hell", that will show up in the orders -- along with a *Void*, since your enemy presumably didn't order his unit to go to Hell).
