Gents,

What a fascinating game! To the uninformed observer it is unclear whether some of the keystone kops-esque lack of coordination is owing to poor planning or diabolic perfidy - or if it is simply the primitive communication vehicles available in the classical era. In any event, progress by-and-large seems to be slow coming save for a bold Roman convoy the question is: which power in the target of the scrappy marines?

The lone retreat is Greek A Armenia. The options are OTB or to Chersonesus. Tim, I've taken the liberty of choosing the latter. If you want OTB just get me that order prior to the Thursday deadline. Assuming there is no change we bypass the summer and move into the fall! Prelims due Friday; full season orders due next Tuesday!

Dirk

dc371: Fa06 Results! - dknemeyer   (May 17, 2011, 5:53 pm)
Gents,

It would appear the generals have turned the war over to their children, as a dizzying array of void, invalid, failed and bounced moves resonate from one end of the Med to the other! This may have been the most futile turn in Dip that I've ever seen whilst all players are, presumably, still playing. I'm not trying to pick on you guys: it's just an odd confluence of orders!

No retreats, and the only center to change hands all year is Crete shifting from Grecian to Egyptian control. That means a build for Egypt, a disband for Greece. Get those in by Thursday - I will adjudicate as soon as I get orders unless told otherwise - and we can press on to the spring!

Good luck!

dc371: Fa05 Results! - dknemeyer   (May 03, 2011, 4:33 pm)
Hi Everyone,

This is indeed an interesting game we're playing. Rome heads west with authority and helps former antagonist Greece return to a spot as mighty contender. Meanwhile Carthage keeps its middle position even while sending forces on apparent training exercises in the bowels of central Africa. Persia appears shattered while Egypt seemingly flies under the radar, even as they ascend to a tie for the lead.

No retreats as the dislodged Persian unit had nowhere to go. Build and removals toward the end of this email; they are due Thursday!

Please note I am on a business trip Thursday and don't expect to adjudicate until very late. I will be on the U.S. west coast (GMT +Cool and likely won't process until midnight or later on Thursday. Just FYI.

Enjoy!

Hi Everyone,
FYI, Egypt's build A Cyrene is invalid, as Cyrene is not an Egyptian home build location. While I gave Charles the option to place that army - army only, since he has already seen the other builds around the board - in another Egyptian home center he has chosen to waive the build instead. HELLENISM SWEEPS THE NATION!

Rome - After yesterday's pronouncement by Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus that Athens, even while it burns, shall be Rome's official new Cultural Capital, it does appear to be the case that a love of all things Greek has become the official cultural trend in Rome this year. Manicus Onthestreeticus had this to say: "Them Greeks, they invented philosophy 'n culture 'n stuff, innit they? Tha's right, innit? Now bugger off while I go bone my new slaves." We applaud the wisdom of the common Roman patrician on this issue.

The Greek government currently in tatters could not be reached for comment.

dc371: Fa04 Results! - dknemeyer   (Apr 19, 2011, 11:08 pm)
Gents,

The game is, at least for the moment, evolving into a battle between eastern and western superpowers. With Egypt's excellent 04 and Rome's continual growth we have two real formidable presences. On the other side of things Persia's fate seems sealed even as Pharaoh Dale continues to order valiantly; meanwhile, the Greeks suffer a setback and are beginning to ebb backwards. In Carthage, the losses have been stemmed and there even seems to be a solid defensive position in place.

There IS one retreat: Greek Army Chersoneus may retreat to Dacia or Sarmatia. Tim, place that order WITH your disband. Everyone else, you are to submit "conditional" orders such as:

"Build A New York unless Chersoneus retreats to Dacia, in which case build F Los Angeles."

Orders are due in just over 40 hours. Everyone has something to submit except Carthage; get em in! Also, I will still be on my trip Thursday and expect to get the adjudication out similarly late.

Dirk

Hi Charles,

RP did that automatically. There must be a Standard Dip rule that an NMR'ed unit that is dislodged is instead destroyed, as there was a valid retreat.

HOWEVER, Carthage did have orders in: they were sent ahead of the winter builds and thus I missed them in my email.

New adjudication to come later today, but here are the orders:

Gents,

Unfortunately I never got orders for Jim. While it may not have mattered this turn he may have benefitted from active play if the major Roman push east is any indication!

There is only one retreat: the Greek A Sinope can retreat to Bithynia or off the board. Tim, I've auto-retreated to Bithynia but if you let me know by the Thursday summer deadline you prefer OTB Tim it will be so changed.

Assuming no retreat changes, prelims are due Friday!

dc371: Grace period - dknemeyer   (Apr 12, 2011, 6:25 pm)
Gents,
Carthage/Jim Tapp has yet to get his orders in per my house rules this invokes his one eight hour grace period. I will adjudicate promptly at 1 AM ET.
Other players may take advantage of this window to change their orders BUT will, in the process, be "spending" their single eight hour grace as well.
Jim, get those orders in!
Dirk

Just under six hours before the deadline for getting your orders in. The Med will be flowing with blood; make sure your generals have orders so YOUR fine people are not the wellspring from which the gory deluge emanates...

Gents,

Sorry! Just remembered the adjudication as I was about to go to bed. For those of you interested in Dip variants I spent the better part of the last 12 hours creating a Realpolitik module for Ambition & Empire. It's not quite done yet, but I got as far as I could alone and tonight. Great variant, it should be offered on DC soon by Robert Stein, a great GM!

Anyhoo...let's get to the important stuff, shall we? Your adjudication is below.

Prelims due in 15.5 hours!

dc371: Fa03 Results! - dknemeyer   (Apr 05, 2011, 6:32 pm)
Gents,

After the long break we find a fall season of limited fireworks but interesting tactical movements nonetheless. Rome remains the big dog but Egypt and Greece are not to be ignored. On the other hand, Persia loses a devastating two depots while one must wonder if Nero somehow is masquerading in Hannibal's clothes for the fading Carthaginians.

No retreats so we press on to the winter! Everyone has to submit something - either a build or a disband - so get those in the next 45.5 hours! Smile

Dirk
