DC 373: Spring 1910 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Aug 04, 2011, 10:41 am)
"It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience."
- Julius Caesar

All Italian and Russian units hold. Methinks they volunteer to die. The EFG creep extends to Sevastopol, Bohemia, and Tyrrhenian Sea; Austria pushes back in Galicia.

There are not six ???yes??? votes for a draw. So, we must endure Fall 1910 with patience. Or copious bloodshed. We can always hope for a Coliseum-like orgy of violence and mayhem (Caesar held quite elaborate public spectacles of combat, though not on the television-violence scale embraced by later emperors).

There are three units dislodged. The Russian army in Sevastopol auto-retreats to Armenia. The German army in Galicia auto-retreats to the friendly hospitality of the English in Warsaw. The Austrian fleet in Tyrrhenian Sea auto-retreats to that permanent sleep of disbanding. If either Germany or Russia wishes to change its orders, you have 24 hours to notify me.

Otherwise, Fall 1910 is due next Thursday. 10:00 a.m. CST. I will be traveling next week, so don???t expect confirmations / corrections / reminders.

Also, there EFG draw proposal. So, vote with your orders (goshdarnit!).

DC 373: F1909 Retreats (No Winter) - AceRimmer   (Jul 29, 2011, 4:23 pm)

DC 373: Fall 1909 - AceRimmer   (Jul 29, 2011, 1:04 pm)
My apologies, but there???s no witty banter today about our good friend, Julius Caesar. Sometimes, a GM is too busy??? writing his EoG for the DiplomaticCorp Invitational. The good news is that I was crowned the winner (pretty cool, huh?). In the process, me and my allies bested Dirk, which was no easy thing. The bad news is that I don???t know the meaning of brevity, so my EoG is needlessly long, and I don???t have time to research pithy Caesarisms. Onto business???

First of all, there is an AEFG draw proposal for vote with Spring 1910 orders.

Second, there are two retreats.
Austrian Army Tyrolia may retreat to Trieste or OTB
Austrian Fleet Ionian Sea may retreat to Aegean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Albania, Apulia, Greece, or OTB.

Usually, I would retreat Tyrolia-Trieste. However, since Jack has a second retreat, and since he may wish to disband and rebuilt, I???ll just let him call both shots.

Heading into Winter, there are *no* adjustments (on account that Russia has no open home centers with which to build. So, Jack, send in those retreats. If you wish to do any disbanding, then please also include your build orders.

There was pretty much no defense along the AIR front this season. Russia held. Austria protected Bohemia but allowed Tyrolia to get taken. Tuscany was likewise undefended (so Austria was free to advance into Tyrrhenian Sea, and Italy didn???t lose a supply center). France retreated his fleet from the Eastern Med to the Ionian.

Orders are due whenever Jack gets them in??? or on Tuesday. Whichever happens first.

DC 373: Spring 1909 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Jul 22, 2011, 11:53 am)
From the BBC/HBO series ???Rome???, Season 1, Episode 5:

Mark Antony: Poor sad wretch gives everything you ask for. The Senate will ratify your status. You get your triumph, stand for consul, and Pompey will retire to Spain. He???d [do something tacky and mildly x-rated] if you asked him to.
Gaius Julius Caesar: Too generous by far. I never thought Pompey would accept such terms.
Mark Antony: You think it???s a stratagem?
Gaius Julius Caesar: I doubt it. He and what few forces he has are trapped and grow weaker by the day. We might crush him at will. But now that he has offered truce, I would look like the worst sort of tyrant if I attack him. Posca here thinks I should accept. Make peace.
Mark Antony: In exchange for what?
Posca: Peace is its own reward.
Mark Antony: Snivelry! The ram has touched the wall! No mercy!
Posca: Pompey has no great army, but he has the Senate with him. He has legitimacy.
Mark Antony: In Rome they are the Senate. Beyond these walls they???re just three hundred old men.
Gaius Julius Caesar: As you say Anthony. But others will agree with Posca. They have made this shameful surrender public. It will be read throughout Italy. If I am not a tyrant, if I merely seek legitimacy, then why would I not accept such favorable terms?
Posca: [Perusing Pompey???s surrender] He refuses to meet us in person?
Gaius Julius Caesar: [thinking] Very good. Simple. Hoi polloi can understand a reason like that. He refuses to meet me face to face, man to man. [In mock anger] He refuses to meet me!
Mark Antony: [laughing] Right. That???s it. No truce. Let???s be after him.

Both armistice proposals fail.

We have some role changes this season. England and Germany *Fail*. Austria chooses instead a bouquet of fragrant *tags*, none of which is *Fails*. But at the end of the day, EF&G have their way. France advances into Piedmont, while Germany advances into the oddly lightly defended East. If there???s good news for the AIR opposition, it???s the correct guess leading to a favorable retreat and a bottling up of the French fleet in Aegean; and it???s the defensive prospects offered by the presence of an Austrian army in Venice; and it???s the failure of EFG to backfill Silesia after Silesia-Galicia. Still, Piedmont and Galicia are bitter pills to swallow.

There are three retreats.

The Austrian army in Galicia may retreat to Budapest, Rumania, Vienna, or OTB.
The French fleet in Aegean Sea retreats to Eastern Mediterranean
The Italian army in Piedmont retreats to Tuscany

Technically, orders are due on Monday at 10:00 a.m. CST. However, Jack, if you could get those in before 3-ish this afternoon, I can adjudicate before the weekend. And if either Tom or Mark prefers an OTB retreat, let me know within 24 hours.

We have an end-game proposal for a three-way draw. Austria, Italy, Russia. All others survive. I suspect this one has an excellent chance to pass (*cough*). I'd just proclaim the draw outright, but my rules are inflexible, and we have to trudge through the bureaucratic formality of it all. Votes are due with the Spring 1909 orders.

It's a quirky little season. Communication seems to be off a titch in the EFG alliance (witness the untaken support from England's A Warsaw; Austria's army in Galicia can breathe a sigh of relief). Still, England retakes Moscow. And France retakes Belgium (from England). And Germany retakes Holland (from France). So, Germany gets a build.

Russia sits on his hands. All units hold. In so doing, he takes a center from Italy (which as mentioned above, is taken in turn by England and handed on down to Germany). Russia also owns the only retreat. Army Moscow retreats to Sevastopol (there are no other non-disbanding options).

The Italian orders appear to be for parallel-universe Italy. One in which he has legitimate sea power. Normally, I would ask him to re-submit orders, but short of stabbing Austria, there is really very little he can do with those units in Tuscany and Rome. Therefore, I'm going to adjudicate with the set of orders as is.

So where does this leave us? Winter 1908. Orders due tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CST. Germany builds a unit. Italy disbands a unit. The rest of you can work on your rap renditions of:

Missing one set of orders. The adjudication will probably have to wait until first-thing Thursday, but I expect to have orders in my box from everybody by Wednesday!
Reminder: vote on AEFG, AFG, EFG, DIAS.

Everyone,

My apologies, as you all know I have not been talking to any of you, has been a week of chaos on my end.  Adam gracisiouly allowed me to send in orders late but explained he would not grant an extension and why, which I am perfectly understanding of.  Since he granted late orders without an extension I determined that meant I should not talk to anyone.  I have sent my orders in this morning.

Again apologies to all.

Mark

DC 373: Update (dc373) AceRimmer Sep 17, 11:15 am
It seems that Mark is still tangled up with other issues, because he has not yet sent a retreat. That's fine.
If you want to get a jump start on Winter adjustments, you can (though if you prefer to wait for retreats, I fully understand). Anyway, those adjustments are: two builds for Austria and maybe a disband for Germany.

But tomorrow most definitely is the Fall 1908 deadline. Submit orders.

I'm going to propose a 3-way England-France-Germany draw. Can that be voted on in the fall?

The great drama of this season is the English capture (and disbanding) of Warsaw. In exchange, he leaves Moscow open to the Sevastopudlians (surely, it's like Liverpool - Liverpudlians, right?).
