DC176 - Get 'm in, get 'm in - Fall 1905 deadline... - bielf11   (Jun 23, 2008, 2:44 pm)
Only 4 hours left. Yes, the deadline was set to Monday 23.00 GMT this time.

And I have only 3 sets of orders, so please get them in asap.
An NMR at this stage in the game would definitely change the balance of powers. Not that everyone would mind of course. But I'm sure you would if you happen to be the one that NMR'd.

DC176 - News from Turkey - bielschowsky.f at goog...   (Jun 01, 2008, 2:20 pm)
Apologies. Did not have any time earlier to inform you.

From: Eirik S. <rodegned(at)hotmail.com (rodegned(at)hotmail.com)>
Date: 2008/5/31
Subject: RE: DC176 - Winter 1903 - Adjudication
To: bielschowsky.f(at)gmail.com (bielschowsky.f(at)gmail.com)

Ah, the adjudication came as I had assumed... Due to both a lack of time and unforeseen technical circumstances I was sadly unable to deliver my builds for the Winter 03. This, one "informal" email account of mine, was not functioning at all yesterday, in that I could not proceed to login. Also, when I did log in only moments ago, I noticed I had not received much email save for spam as well as this adjudication. I had heard earlier that Hotmail was experiencing server difficulties, so there was a combination of this and my severe lack of time in the past few days which made me unable to deliver.

It has been like this at other occasions too, once resulting in a lack of communication between allies before a crucial deadline. But things to not look bleak for the Turks merely because of technicalities, but in great part of my own ignorance.

I look forward to building up the Empire again.

DC176 - Anonymous Spring 1901 Press - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
ST. PETERSBURG - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Count Vasily Popoff, today announced that Russia, Austria and Germany have concluded an alliance.

Popoff, speaking for Tsar Dean, said "the three powers are Central to peace in Europe, and Eurasia."

The Minister said "an attack on one would be interpreted as an attack on all."

DC176 - Anonymous Spring 1901 Press - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Here is some NOT so anonymous spring 1901 press.

I am unaware of any Central Powers Alliance. However if those powers want to join with me, I am sure I could use their forces.

I caught wind of some of the things being said about me. Although I have many, many, years of experience playing this game, I see now I might have a bit to learn about playing by email.

Yes I am a "maverick". I am also predictable in that I do what works and what is in my best interests.

I am use to playing with players around a table, where deals are often sealed with as little as a look or a nod. I think all this extra chatter is mostly noise. I do see that in this style of play, some might be needed.

I judge players by what they DO not what they say they will do.

I will not appologise for my "rude...." nature. I am just not one for big flowery letters.

I do expect to give you all a run for your money, and to enjoy playing a game I love.

Willie

DC176 - Spring 1901 orders - Reminder - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Most Powers have already submitted their orders for Spring 1901.
I guess that the others are still busy planning and engaging in diplomatic affairs.
There are still just under 5 days left to submit me your final orders and Adjudication takes place.
A word of advice however: don't wait until the last minute or else risk missing out on it.

For any Diplomacy newbees, a quick explanation of the rules in case you miss a turn (of course this is not going to happen us): if I don't receive any orders from a Power for a turn, this is considered a NMR (No Moves Received). And, yeah, that's a bad thing: your units stay where they are and Hold; and two consecutive NMRs means your units go into Civil Disorder, and you are out of the game as a player.
So better submit preliminary orders early, than risk not sending in any. Be forewarned because many of us have experienced situations where the Internet connection or PC no longer worked when it really counted !

For those with an interest of tracking orders and moves on their computer instead of paper or on the board: since I'm using RealPolitik, after each adjudication, with the orders and maps, I will also send you the RealPolitik DPY file.

I have received orders from most of you.
If you haven't received any conformation from me, please assume I haven't received them.
I haven't received any orders from everyone that is BCC'd on this message.

No panic. There is still time.
So if you still need to submit your initial orders or want to revise them, know that it's now fewer than 3 days until the deadline of Tuesday 16:00 GMT.

DC176 - Spring 1901 - Deadline reminder - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Spring 1901 is almost here.
Imagine a bird's eye view on a peaceful world of green grass and blue seas.
Can you feel the serenity of the moment?
Birds high in the sky and tiny specks moving down below.

Tiny specks???
Slowly we're zooming on this view. Now what is that?
Seems like dirt tracks cutting through the green fields and white lines of foam cutting through the waves.
Where are they all going? What is it about?
Less than a day to go and we will know...

Gents,
less than 16 hours to submit any (revised) orders.
At 16:00 GMT the adjudication starts.

a lot of movement in Europe already. So far everything seemed to have worked out as planned.

Well, actually it is closer to 19 hrs...

At this moment I have only 3 sets of orders in !
That must mean that several Powers are still debating what orders to give.
What an excitement! While it's still only 1901.

Make sure you get your orders in by 16.00 GMT or else face the NMR. And a NMR at this stage could be fatal....
Just remember: better to have your prelims executed than a NMR.

After the Fall 1901 adjudication, we will continue with any disbands/retreats, if any, followed by builds.
I will try to keep up our current schedule with Spring 02 orders due by next Tuesday.

Dear Sovereign / Ruler,

less than 12 hours remain and we still haven't received any orders from you (if your name is listed as BCC).
I understand the confidentiality of your orders and have no doubts that you want to keep your orders secret til the last moment,
but you just may want to share them with me.
So make sure that I have your orders by 16.00 GMT on Tuesday.

And remember: if you haven't received a confirmation from me, assume I have not received your orders.
Your messenger likely was intercepted on his way to me - or worse, has sided with one of the other Powers.
Or, more likely, is suffering from a serious hangover from the pubs he visited on his way to me
and is still trying to figure out how he got there and where he's supposed to go.

"Lines of communication are the routes used to communicate by people or groups who are in conflict"

OK, now we got that straight, let's take a look at what happened in Fall 1901.

Wow! Ouch! Yesss! Noooooooo! That pretty much sums it up for this season.

Saying that it has some very surprising results would be an understatement.
Or were you gonna say that all these bounces and cuts were planned?
O, if only you could see eachother's faces and hear the appreciation...

Austria:
F Albania - Greece
A Serbia Supports F Albania - Greece (*Cut*)
A Trieste Hold

England:
F North Sea Convoys A Yorkshire - Belgium
F Norwegian Sea - Norway
A Yorkshire - Belgium (*Bounce*)

France:
A Burgundy - Belgium (*Bounce*)
A Gascony - Spain
F Mid-Atlantic Ocean - Portugal

Germany:

A Ruhr - Munich

Italy:

A Galicia - Vienna
F Gulf of Bothnia - Sweden (*Bounce*)
F Sevastopol Supports A Ukraine - Rumania
A Ukraine - Rumania

Turkey:
F Ankara - Black Sea
A Bulgaria - Serbia (*Fails*)
A Constantinople - Bulgaria (*Fails*)

No doubt that some serious questions will be asked.
Once promising relationships have now come under pressure.
Will they survive, rise up stronger than before? Or will the brotherly embrace turn to a deadly one?

No retreats or disbands.
Next deadline is for the builds. It is set at 23.00 GMT Thursday April 24.

Note that once I have received builds from all of you, I will send out the results immediately.
That will leave us more time until the deadline for Spring 1902: Tuesday April 29 at 23.00 GMT.
Yes, a new time for the deadlines to reduce the delay between deadline and distribution of results.

We Declare to all Our loyal subjects and Allies:

Impossible as it seemed, but treacherously preparing from the very beginning of the war, Austria has betrayed the cause of Peace. The Austrian army has attacked Our faithful ally Greece, [which is already] bleeding profusely in a struggle with a strong enemy.

Italy and Our allied Great Powers tried to warn Austria against this fatal step. The fullfillment of an age-old aspiration of the Austria people - union with Macedonia - has [already] been guaranteed to Austria by a means less in accord with the interests of world Peace.

But appeals by the Hapsburgs to secret ambitions and fratricidal emnity against the Serbs and Greeks prevailed.

The Italian people react with bitterness to the treachery of a Austria which was so close to them until recently, and draw their swords against her with heavy hearts, leaving the fate of these traitors to the peaceful world to God's just retribution.[/color:00411c8755]

DC176 - Winter 1901 - Builds and Spring 1902 deadl... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Factories have been working overtime this winter to meet the huge demand in Europe for steel.
Workers had been brought in from all around the country.
Black clouds and loud noise filled the air.

And look. What a magnificent sight.
Endless lines of machines of war leaving the factories.
In 5 different Supply Centers, Powers have been building new armies.
And in another 5, new fleets have entered the waters.

Austria: Build A Budapest
England: Build F London
France: Build F Marseilles, F Brest
Germany: Build A Kiel, A Berlin
Italy: Build F Naples
Russia: Build A Warsaw, A Moscow
Turkey: Build F Smyrna

And thus starts a new season. Spring 1902 is here.
People are gathering in large numbers to say farewell to their family and friends.
Where they're heading?

DC176 - Spring 1902 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear Rulers,

allow me to give you a short impression of Spring 1902:
- England and Russia had a little quarrel over St Petersburg. Of course, it is a beautiful place to visit in Spring.
Russia also seemed to have some mixup with Italy and Turkey. Opportunities for interpreters of these languages?
- France apparently decided that there is no place like home and returned en-masse to its terra patria.
- Austria gently but firmly made Russia to understand that the feeling of coziness in sharing Vienna was not mutual.
- The Italian army did not see any reason to move whereas its navy did not see any reason to stay.
- Turkey felt it was somewhat constrained and decided it would need more space.
- Germany was in an excellent mood and decided to pay a visit to its neighbouring locations.

These are the orders that were given for Spring 1902:

Austria:
A Budapest Supports A Trieste - Vienna
F Greece - Bulgaria(sc) (*Bounce*)
A Serbia - Trieste
A Trieste - Vienna

England:
F London - North Sea
F North Sea - Skagerrak
F Norway - St Petersburg(nc) (*Bounce*)
A Yorkshire - London

France:
F Brest Hold
A Burgundy - Paris
F Marseilles Hold
F Portugal Hold
A Spain - Gascony

Germany:
A Berlin - Prussia
F Denmark Supports F Gulf of Bothnia - Sweden
A Holland - Belgium
A Kiel - Munich
A Munich - Silesia

Italy:
F Ionian Sea - Aegean Sea
F Naples - Ionian Sea
A Tunis Hold
A Venice Hold

Russia:
F Gulf of Bothnia - Sweden
A Moscow - St Petersburg (*Bounce*)
A Rumania Supports A Bulgaria - Serbia (*Void*)
F Sevastopol Supports A Rumania
A Vienna Supports A Venice - Trieste (*Dislodged*)
A Warsaw - Galicia

Turkey:
F Black Sea Supports A Bulgaria - Rumania
A Bulgaria - Rumania (*Fails*)
A Constantinople - Bulgaria (*Bounce*)
F Smyrna - Eastern Mediterranean

With these moves we're at Summer 1902.
Since Austria was so adamant about Vienna, the local Russian army needs to find itself another location.

DC176 - Fall 1902 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
UNBELIEVABLE !!
probably describes best what has happened during Fall 1902.

Hope that Russia enjoys its presence in Denmark as it came with a price: the Russians succeeded taking Denmark from the Germans through the support of the English, who in return for that favor must have decided to take Sweden and St Petersburg (nc). Germany as a result of Russia's move has been told to leave immediately - no need to pack.
Further south Russia had to make way for the Germans in Bohemia; since word had come down from what occurred in Denmark, Germany showed no mercy on the Russians either: demand for immediate departure.
And all the way in the Mediterranean we see Italian troops moving from Tunis to Smyrna in an orchestrated convoy which succeeded thanks to the support from Austria. The Turkish delight (forgive me for this little joke) over the victory in Serbia is said to have quickly changed to unbelief at what happened at home.

These are the orders given for Fall 1902:

Austria:
A Budapest Supports A Vienna
F Greece Supports F Aegean Sea
A Trieste - Serbia (*Fails*)
A Vienna Supports A Munich - Bohemia

England:
A London Hold
F North Sea Supports F Sweden - Denmark
F Norway - St Petersburg(nc)
F Skagerrak - Sweden

France:
F Brest - English Channel
A Gascony - Burgundy
F Marseilles - Spain(sc)
A Paris - Picardy
F Portugal - Mid-Atlantic Ocean

Germany:
A Belgium Hold
F Denmark Supports F Sweden (*Dislodged*)
A Munich - Bohemia
A Prussia - Warsaw (*Fails*)
A Silesia Supports A Prussia - Warsaw (*Cut*)

Italy:
F Aegean Sea Convoys A Tunis - Smyrna
F Ionian Sea Convoys A Tunis - Smyrna
A Tunis - Smyrna
A Venice - Apulia

Russia:
A Bohemia - Silesia (*Dislodged*)
A Galicia Supports A Moscow - Warsaw
A Moscow - Warsaw
A Rumania Supports A Bulgaria - Serbia
F Sevastopol Supports A Rumania
F Sweden - Denmark

Turkey:
F Black Sea - Constantinople
A Bulgaria - Serbia
A Constantinople - Bulgaria
F Eastern Mediterranean - Aegean Sea (*Fails*)

As a result the following retreats are expected for Autumn 1902:
- Germany needs to order its fleet out of Denmark or it will be disbanded;
- Russia needs to order its army out of Bohemia or it will be disbanded.

Retreats are due by Wednesday 23.00 GMT and will be adjudicated as soon as I have received all retreats marked as Final.

Builds for Winter 1902 are due by Friday 23.00 GMT.

As I will be away May 10-18, we'll skip next week so the Spring 1903 orders are not due until Tuesday May 20, 23.00 GMT.
Considering everything that has happened this Fall, that may actually be welcome (recover from shock, allow time to have ratio rule emotion, formulate clear messages to former allies, etc.).
