I am very pleased to announce that all 7 players have (reluctantly!) agreed to play in this second very cutthroat game of the 2008 DCI. Please confirm receipt of this email by Monday 8th so I know you are receiving the emails.

I have assigned countries randomly (although was tempted to let Clark choose since it seems to be his birthday - Happy Birthday Clark!). The only rule was that Mike Sims and Mikael could not play a country they played in last year's DCI (which did not end up being a factor).

Our first deadine is Spring 1901 which will be due Monday 15th October, 5pm Australian EST.

A reminder of the points structure for the DCI is.

1st 7
2nd 6
3rd 5
4th 4
5th 3
6th 2
7th 1

With a draw, averaging the points between the draw recipiants. Acheiving a solo will also net a bonus 3 points.

The current standings are:-

Mike 1 point
Clark 2.5 points
Nigel 2.5 points
Lee 4 points
Dan 6 points
Jorge 6 points
Mikael 6 points

Our country assignments are

Mike mike(at)southwall.com (mike(at)southwall.com) France
Clark clarklandry(at)gmail.com (clarklandry(at)gmail.com) Germany
Nigel nephilli99(at)hotmail.com (nephilli99(at)hotmail.com) Russia

Dc189 Winter 855 - deathblade_penguin   (Aug 21, 2008, 3:09 am)
Dc199 Winter 855

GM's Comment:and then there was 9 - GM

Next Deadline Spring 856 will be due on Monday 25th at 5pm, Australian EST.

Angles:
Build F Yorkshire

Britons:
Build F Orne
Build F Loire

Danes:
Build F Jylland

Frisians:
Remove A Burgundy

Irish:
Remove F Wexford

Norse:
Build A Ostfold

Picts:
Remove F Caithness

Scots:
Remove A Borders

Welsh:
Build A Powys

PRESS

Britons speak,

To Saxons,

As stated, I had to withdraw my support to furhter my own ends and not start a fight with Angles. I wish it had turned out otherwise.

To Welsh,

Agreed, one more fleet coming up to flank the Scots on the west of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedffice:smarttags" />Ireland. Consider convoying Dam to Wex; I will support that this spring.

To Danes/Norse,

As stated, the support to Danes was given as to allow him a channel thrhough which he can affect the game. I find it extremely doubtfull he will attack you or me. Also, good job on rubbing out the Frisians, two more to go now.

To Angles,

I'm rethinking my dmz proposal, I'd like to set up a defensive perimiter of Str and Hoe, possibly Bai as well. Not wishing conflict with either you or the Danes at this point, hence a series of static supports there should discourage any such thoughts.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedfficeSurprisedffice" />

Britons: I think a DMZ of Tha is unhelpful unless you DMZ Hoe too, and that wouldn't make much sense either. Better I stay in Tha and you stay in Hoe and we support each other. However, a DMZ of Str makes sense to me. Shall we? I'll be moving out of Sus with my fleet so as not to threaten Wig.

Danes: We are in a good position to coordinate and a bad position to attack each other. If you have any ideas of heading north you can count on my help.

Wales: I'll be moving Dur to Bor, support if you can. Thx! I'd like to disband a southern army to build a fleet if possible. Perhaps next year I can move to Glo in the Spring and then you can dislodge me in the Fall so I can remove it?? If you'd rather not I completely understand. Let me know and we can plan it for 857.

- Angles

Saxons, there's nothing else you could have done. Good game.

Britons, agreed on your last message. If the Irish disband Wex, feel
free to pressure Con. If the Irish don't disband Wex, then please
support St.-Wex.

Angles, if the Scots are still in Bor, and Dur has nothing better to
do, then please order Dur S Cum-Bor. If you have a better idea, let
me know. I would also like Sus if you take Ken, as I believe that was
earmarked for me in exchange for supporting you for several turns. If
you don't agree, let me know.

Irish, I'll be going after Dub, but if you can't hold Arm on your own
after this turn, I'll make sure you hold it long enough to make the
final seven.

-Wales

Viking Raiders!!!!!!!!!

Norse press. to Scots. Stay on west side west otherwise I will come west. to Welsh. Reclaim those lands stolen from you by the Anglosaxons. to Angles. Trying to turn the Danes against me is not the best way to persuade me not to storm down the coast. Danegeld might have made me want to go over the top.

END PRESS

Final Statement by Frisians.
Derek says:
Good game everyone good luck going forward (except to the Danes and Brits). I was clearly hoping to do much better but things just didn't work out. The Danes and I went head to head right off both going for each other completely. However his neighbor to the north kept better relations with him than my nieghbor to the south and once I was attacked two sides everything crumbled.

Dci 2007 Final Standings. - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Here are the final standings for the 2007 DCI.

I would like to congratulate Mike Sims who is this year's winner. From achieving a magnificant solo in the first game against 6 very strong players, Mike was able to force the second no press gunboat game into a Draw which netted him a final win in the DCI over Mikael. Due to some discrepancies and strong emotions, i will be changing the structure of the DCI next year. However as long as Mike is an active member of DC, he has automatically qualified for the 2008 DCI.

I would like to thank Mike, Erik, felix and Mikael for playing out the second game.
Congratulations to Mike, Trout and Mikael for their draw in Dc131.

I would like to thank Trout for GMing the first game and for stepping in when no-one else would in the second game.

The official standings are;

In 1st place and 2007 Dci winner on a score of 14 is Mike.
In 2nd place on a score of 10 is Mikael.
In 3rd place on a score of 9 is Former Trout.
In 4th place on a score of 5 is Felix.
In 5th place on a score of 4.5 is Eric.
In 6th place on a score of 3.5 is Kevin.
In 7th place on a score of 2 is Ray.
In 8th place on a score of 1 is Stephen.

Congratulations Mike. The question is whether you can now hold the title in 2008.

DCI & dc131 Chilean EGS - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey guys,
From the start and the fast opening, I had pegged Brazil as Mikael… tho I had Argentina and Colombia switched. I thought it was Eric that was relentlessly attacking me but it was Felix. Once Felix got that opening move into Pam, I was horribly bottled up for the rest of the game. I got some really lucky guesses all throughout that kept me from collapsing, and eventually pushed him back bit by bit. That’s the whole of the game for me… 7 years of barely skating by each turn, hoping that either Brazil would hit Argentina from the north, or Colombia would collapse fast enough that Argentina would either have to turn or the game would be a solo.

Then Trout took, I supported him a couple times, and we put up a wall that I’m pretty sure was safe. Tho there were a few guess-points in it still around Yun / Prg, I think Brazil’s lack of a Pacific fleet would have been a pretty heavy counterweight. As for playing Chile, this power sucks! That long thing strip of land is so incredibly hard to defend.

Overall good game, I’m happy to be alive in it.

My notes to Steve revolving around the dci scoring… As I said to you, had Mikael soloed this game, he would have won the dci outright… so a solo / 2nd vs a 2nd / solo, the 2nd / solo would win, instead of the two players tieing. There should be a simple fix to that in the scoring, tho it was unquestionably caused by the smaller map round 2, and so some changes had to be made to make it worth playing.

For the one gunboat game I will endure per year, it was fun…
Good game all,
-mike

However as long as Mike is an active member of DC, he has automatically qualified for the 2008 DCI.

I would like to thank Mike, Erik, felix and Mikael for playing out the second game.
Congratulations to Mike, Trout and Mikael for their draw in Dc131.

I would like to thank Trout for GMing the first game and for stepping in when no-one else would in the second game.

The official standings are;

GM Business:
1) There's been a couple of bounced emails from hotmail recently, so remember my backup email is stevelytton(at)gmail.com (stevelytton(at)gmail.com) if you want to be SURE i've got your moves, send them there as well. I also confirm all moves/emails within 24 hours so if you dont here anythign, let me know.

2) As stated, press will be published with spring, fall and winter moves. So I wont publish press on retreats and I wont 'hold' a deadline for press - once i have all final moves in, i will run a deadline (this probably applies more for winter than anythign else)

Jute Times Property Supplement:

Strike now for an early bargain. We have hundreds of delightful empty properties across Brittannia and the northern shores. This vacant possession cannot last: get in early before the chain.

Among the delightful properties now available are sea-front villas (many with working hypocausts), thatched roundhouses in sought after villages, scots broches and ornate carved long houses! Many lake side homes contain the added 'lady in the lake' option, with ornamental sword.

There is something for everyone in today's market.

To Frisians,

We hope <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedffice:smarttags" />Fla to be resolved in the coming year - dmz/continued bouncing is acceptable for us. We are also hearthened by your opening moves, bodes well.

Frisians to Britons, Let's have peace.
****************************************************
The Lager and Stout Chronicles report that the Angles and Welsh have been self-declared of single mind. Thereby having no more, yet no less, than half a mind each. However this ought be retracted for we know that the Angles, et all, are English k-nnnnniggets and therefore mindless. Until such time as the press release is corrected to reveal the presence of no less than a quarter, but not to exceed three-fourths of a mind between the two powers, the Irish will send aid to the Brits, Scots, Picts, and Saxons as necessary to ensure that the great lands before us shall not someday be ruled by the mindless.

Beloved Brits, excuse the move to CEL. Please retain your army in Bre for safety, we’ll vacate this turn. If at any time you would like support into Dev or a ferry to Cor, just drop a line.

Dearest Welsh, it is with great disappointment that the Irish hear of your desire to build west instead of east. As you see by the opening moves, the Irish opened away from your mainland with hopes of preserving the tranquility that has beset the Irish Sea for all these years. Please reconsider your stance, or we’ll become entrenched in a naval battle that will not help either of us. In other words, if you don’t ramp up in the Irish Sea, we won’t either, and we can go back to heading for Iceland. It’s nice there this time of year.

Silly me! I did not realize that we could use press to in essence negotiate! If so, I would have mentioned to my neighbors that I hoped that they noticed that my attempts to NOT bounce them were overtures of friendliness.

Dc189 Winter 851- 24 hour warning. - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Well I have 9 sets of orders not marked preliminary. Which means I am waiting for 1 more set of orders.

as per my house rules, I would adjudicate 24 hours after receiving 10* sets of non preliminary orders which in this case, will be at the deadline in 24 hours time.

As a step from my normal procedure, in the first YEAR of the game.. i am not going to publically name the missing player however from spring 852, in the 24 hour warning.. i will list the countries whose orders i have not received.

To Scots: I have a plan: Our three armies are enough to defend from our South. My armies can't take <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedffice:smarttags" />INN and your islands, so we can have peace now. Our fleets stay away from you. I will make CAI and PEN as DMZ; and keep GRA fleet only. What do you think
Press:
Wales: Can you support me into Sus? No problem on Che, makes sense.
Picts: We are good on our DMZ. We both have other things to do.
Socts: I can't take Cum. Can you leave and we'll keep Cum & Dur vacant?
- From the Angles

Press: Frisians to Norse : Is someone speaking for you? I still say we go for the Danes either way. We are set up and there is nothing he can do.

Danes to Norse: good border between us, and richer pickings for us both further west. Time to go a Viking!

Danes to Britons: come and meet me. We have rich pickings between us, and together we can carve up the Frisian heifer, before crossing the narrow sea together.

Norse to Picts.... Happy to discuss what we do with our two islands and a dmz area. I could go over top for ICE and be an outer power and you could stay on the mainland and west islands?
Norse to Danes.... SKA and KAT dmz. yep! but I need to move my fleet through SKA first. Are you moving BAL back to ODE or JUT to then move west?
Norse to Frisians..... We help you if Danes renage on dmz offer but not if they hold true.
to Frisians: We can squash Danes between us.
to Britons: Leave the Frisians alone and concentrate on taking the seas and bottling the Irish up.
Guess the Britons have trouble with the Irish... Better their way than my way... Smile
Picts to Danes : Lets get the Norse. I'll take Zet.

Dc189 Winter PRESS additional - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Players.

Apologies but I missed this press which should have been included in the winter adjudication. I am including it now. I am very sorry for this error of mine. GM.

Press starts.

Irish, the Welsh suggest you invest in a compass. Cursory study of it will reveal that there are other directions in which the Welsh could move other than east or west: for instance, north and south! This will also help your fleet avoid sailing in non-productive circles. You may also want to study the self-fulfilling prophecy. Now that you've approached my shores, I will counter with the extra fleet build you didn't want. Where to go from here? I will take ANG this year, bounce you in ST. in the spring, and sail south to BRI in the fall. If you persist in seeking out conflict while I grow and you don't, I'll suggest investing in an abacus.

Angles, it looks like you'll take SUF with MID. GLO will support MER-MID in the spring if ordered, and in the fall if needed. The Welsh believe in balanced growth, and will negotiate accordingly in the future. Keep me posted as to how we can continue to cooperate.

Britons, best wishes to you as well. If you see a green ship on your coastline, send out a schoolchild in a dinghy to point them in the right direction.
