Oceania DC508\After Sprng/2005 Press! - hapolley   (Oct 23, 2014, 12:53 am)
=========================================================== Oceania DC508\After Sprng/2005 Press!===========================================================Next deadline is for Fall 05 is Sunday Oct 26/2014 at 1800MT.
7)Japan to Marshall Islands: Please don't hit my units.  I have no plans in attacking yours.
    6) USA USA You're going DOWN    5) Ships in Tos and
Coi?    4) Will Oz go for the win or accept the offered draw with Indonesia?    3) France help Oz into Kei?    2) Marshall Islands into Pho with Oz support?    1) OZ s USA  Tog-Kei or NZ  s  OZ TOB-Kei?
GM to Player: Anticipated retreats have been done for years in order to speed up games in postal diplomacy; I will agree they are not needed as much in email play. The trick is to figure out which units could be dislodged and then make a list of places for it to retreat to.  Start with spot you would like most and go down from there. Figuring out what retreats might occur I found improved my game play.

dc505 Haven s04 results! - FuzzyLogic   (Oct 22, 2014, 11:45 am)
A pretty tame round it would seem... Not a whole lot gets dislodged, just some repositioning.  But then again I guess every round cant be battles everywhere, sometimes you gotta move some units first.  And lots of them did move, mostly toward... the Knights... who are looking awfully crowded up there.  The Wizards and Shades get the worst of the turn, each losing a home center to invaders.

Haven today! - FuzzyLogic   (Oct 21, 2014, 8:15 am)
Today!  Today!  Today!

Lots of orders filtering in but if I was a betting man I'd say there's more yet to come...

So the real question becomes whether or not I'm a betting man...

And if I was a betting man I'd have to say no...

But that would create a paradox and the world would end.

So pls just get'em in...

Action in Southeast Asia... As the Chinese sweep downward into the French colonies, the Dutch fleet rises up to meet them. Will the French have an effect on this coming conflict, or will they just be caught in the middle? And once again, the telegraph lines are down in London,  but fortunately the Crown's holdings are untouched.  There are a few retreats this turn. Please bear in mind that the Russian army in Omsk is actually in Moscow, but I can't edit the map until the Summer is adjudicated.  French A Upper Burma can retreat to Mandalay or Rangoon
Japanese F Upper Pacific can retreat to Middle Pacific or Tokyo

EUROPE 1615 PLAY-TEST - mmedeiros   (Oct 18, 2014, 9:45 pm)
Anyone interested in a game of Europe 1615? Just need 3 more play-testers to get it started.

Just a short summary of game play:

1- Playable powers receive influence points each year to deploy to minor states on the board in an attempt to mobilize the units. Majority influence has precedence. This mechanic is similar to A&E and Payola. However, unlike those variants, in 1615 you cannot bride other players' pieces to move, and the influence points accumulate in the minor states.

2- When a majority of influence cannot be established in a minor state, an impassable neutral province is formed. Makes for interesting tactical play, and the enforcing of DMZs.

3- Sanctions can be imposed by players to restrict who has influence over a minor state. This mechanic works similar to card-driven games. Players receive a list of sanctions to work with, and can either support or challenge the sanctions.

4- Victory is determined by score, and scoring is dependent on captures of centers and the majority of influence in a minor state. However, majority of influence in a minor state has greater value than a captured center.

5- Minor states can expand, thus increasing their value.

Of those who have played to date, some have described the game as "complex", "emphasizing heavily on tactics", and "thematic".

So, please take a look at the rules, but do not get overwhelmed with them. There is a lot of details to keep track of, yet I always help players along the way once the game commences.

DC501 - Spring 1909 - Operations   (Oct 18, 2014, 9:51 am)
Another change, gentleman. It was overlooked that RP is programmed with the true DP rules regarding all NMRs causing a state of civil disorder, hence it showed Germany's units as being disbanded. They actually have retreats coming. Things are so much easier when moves are turned in.... German A Munich can retreat to Silesia
German F North Sea can retreat to Yorkshire, Edinburgh, Norway, Skagerrak, Denmark, Helgoland Bight or London  Deadline for these retreats is October 19th.

Thanks! I did of course read your variant. The barbarian raider mechanic is interesting; I once toyed with a variant set much later on in China, with the Mongols as the odd one out.

FYI for anyone who's interested, there's a game set up for this now: http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/game_page.php?game_id=re003

=========================================================== Oceania DC508\After Winter/2004 Press!===========================================================    9)Indonesia to Australia:  Ignore everything said by me this season as it wasn't me.===========================================================    Cool Indonesia to all: Message 6 wasn`t from me    7) USA, USA, USA: J made a big mistake. What use is an A on the mid, when I is conquering the Japanese home scs?      6) Indonesia to Australia:  Why don't we call it a 2 way draw?
I'm sure everyone else would agree?    5) Japan to Indonesia-What a Wimp!  Needing help versus little ol me from your Big Brother?  Growing too slowly vs OZ?  There can only be one winner or are you Praying for a draw?    4)Japan to Marshall Islands-Thank-you for your support.  We'll survive this together.    3) Indonesia to Australia: Sorry for my move through DMZ but it was necessary to bring all my forces to the north. Can you move Nsi-Emi? That keeps Japan busy.    2) USA, USA, USA: I will survive, I will survive!    1) USA USA USA, you're going down! (And me as well alas)

New Variant: Warring States (ancient China) - david_e_cohen   (Oct 17, 2014, 12:33 pm)
As the creator of the Mandate of Heaven variant much earlier in my variant design career (it has its problems--LOL), I am always interested when someone tackles this area and period. It makes me want to revisit my work and improve it! I will take a more detailed look at this and hopefully get back to you with comments.

Deadline delay! Oceania DC508\After Winter/2004 P... - hapolley   (Oct 16, 2014, 8:46 pm)
'One player for a situation beyond his control may not be able to meet the deadline, if all moves are not in by Thursday the deadline will be extended.'
The deadline will be extended till I receive the missing moves or until Tuesday 21 of October 1800 hours arrives!  All moves are in except for one set.  I will accept press and order changes till the missing orders arrive and I can adjudicate. So
this is the time for some deal making by press?
