DC 211: F1909 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Mar 31, 2009, 9:41 am)
<<Sound of gears grinding>>

Austria guesses correctly. The French landing at Tuscany is thwarted. And now, the line of inaction extends clear from the Ionian Sea to Denmark... but it doesn’t go all the way. The Swedes are still swinging, and England advances into the Gulf of Bothnia and stations an army in Norway.

No units retreat, so F1909 Seismics are the next season, due Thursday at 1000 CST.

Some centers get swapped around but for no net change. Still, thanks to waived builds and a disband, everybody but England has the option for one build this Winter. Those will be due on Friday.

Austria:
F Ion S Rom
A Pie S Tus
A Tus S Rom (*Cut*)
A Tri -> Ven
A Tyl S Ber

DC 211: S1909 Seismics - AceRimmer   (Mar 26, 2009, 11:35 am)
Some serious moving and shaking going on in the south. Especially that French order caused a lot of redrawing the map. I *think* I've got it right, but you may want to double-check just to be sure. But after all the dust settles, Rome can be taken, if that be the French plan. But all things are fleeting, and the question will be: can it be held?

And let's not forget that English fleets now border Moscow in the north.

There will be a Fall 1909. It will happen on Tuesday, March 31.

Austria:
Split WMe/Apu, Join Ion/Rom

England:
split Liv/Gob - join Bal/Mos

France:
Tun and OUT split, MAt and Wes connect

Russia:
Split Rom/Gol, Join Pie/Tus

DC 211: S1909 - AceRimmer   (Mar 24, 2009, 10:52 am)
Lots of movement this turn, mostly behind the scenes, as nations shuffle their troops so as best to reach an ever-shifting front. Berlin takes the Russian flag out of the broom closet and prepares to run it back up the flagpole. The Swedes once again hunker down to endure the harsh tyranny of the Trout. Net change: zero. But there are openings and opportunities here and there. I think there are a lot of fascinating maneuvers going down, and the S1909 Seismics should promise more.

No retreats (well, there was the Russian army in Sweden, but it couldn’t swim, so it was disbanded). Seismic orders are due on Thursday at 1000 CST / 1500 GMT.

Fellas, you guys are making my generosity feel unwelcome. I offer builds to three of you, and TWO of you turn me down. Flat. Yeesh.

England builds an army in Edinburgh.
Austria and France are too proud to build. (Or, in their terms, "We wave-uh dees-uh beeld"Wink.

S1909 will occur on Tuesday the 24th. Same time as usual.

DC 211: Fall 1908 Seismics - AceRimmer   (Mar 19, 2009, 11:19 am)
This game is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Just when Berlin is taken, it becomes vulnerable again. But Sweden becomes vulnerable the other way as the Baltic Lake reconnects to the North Sea. And, even though Italy is gone, his homeland continues to be geomorphed.

Builds due from Austria, England, and France tomorrow!

While we’re at it, let me know what you think of the deadline cycle. Now that we’re down to four players, I can speed it up if you like.

Austria:
Split Mun / Ber, Join Hol / Swi

England:
Split Nor/Den - Join Ska/Swe; Please make straits wherever I can
[Strait between Sweden and Denmark; Sweden and Denmark now have one coast apiece… it’s kind of a restoration to the beginning of the game there].

France:
split ion and rom, connect wes and apu

Russia:
Split Pru / Bal , Join Den / Lvn

Berlin falls! Kersplat! Though it would not have changed the result, there _appears_ to have been some miscommunication of the baseball variety: “I’ve got it!” “No, I’ve got it!” “You’ve got it!” “We’ve got it!” “Who’s got it?” THUD. Yeesh, it’s like a White Sox game.

There was also one unwanted support. Those are always fun.

There is but that one retreat… and it is a forced disband. In addition, I am disbanding the Italian fleet in Ionian. Alas, Greg, you have departed us too soon. Feel free to play sinister organ music and to think of Austria as you do so. Let me know if you’d like to be removed from the mailing list.

As for the other four of you… Seismic orders are due on Thursday. Adjustments are due on Friday. On account of conquering, disbanding, and waived builds, everybody builds one. Unless your name is Lytton. You don’t get to build anything. And I’m not giving you a cookie, either.

All five seismics succeed. And with what success! Berlin? Feeling a little more disconnected. Rome? They’re building a bridge to Spain. Finland? “I am a rock, I am an island. An island within the Russian arctic.” You may now wish to make sure you understand Rule 4(b): How to Re-Connect an Isolated Province.

Just to clarify before we even go there… Fin/Nwy connect would bounce with both of the following kinds of orders:
(a) Fin/GoB connect and
(b) Swe/OUT connect plus Mos/Nwy separate.

In the former example, we cannot connect an isolated province simultaneously to two different provinces. In the latter example, we cannot connect an isolated province to a border that is being eliminated by another order.

Alright! I’m giving us until next Tuesday for F1908. Take your time and get your orders right.

Austria:
Split Tys/ Wes; Join Rom/Spa
[No isthmus choice specified; strait connects Tys to Wes]

England:
Split Swe/Fin - Join Stp/Stp

France:
Vie and Ber split, Tyl and Boh connect

Italy:
Bul/Aeg disconnect Gre/Con connect

Russia:
Split Ber/Bal, Join Pru/Den

This is beginning to remind me of when my daughter was born. “Puuuuuuush! Come on, baby! Puuuuuuush!” And just like when a woman delivers a baby, it’s just not all that simple and straight-forward – you need to keep pushing -- or else find some other way to prise loose that precious center.

Ten units (nearly 30% of the armed forces of Europe) are involved in the Big Push against Berlin. It fails 4:5, including a cut support. Not surprisingly, motion on the northern half of the map comes to a standstill.

There are no retreats! So, let’s do seismics on Wednesday at 1000 CST. I think that’s 1500 GMT, thank you Daylight Savings Time!

Austria:
F Tri -> Ion (*Fails 1:1 to F Ion*)

Once again, the English and Russian orders bounce, so neither order succeeds. Yeah, just checking to see if you were awake. You see, England disbanded and Russia built, so the two orders cannot possibly bounce. Now, if England had also been building, it might’ve been a different story.

Austria:
build F Tri

England:
disband F NAT

France:
Build A Par
Waive 2nd build

Italy:
A Tus disband
F Nap disband

Russia:

Let’s have S1908 on Friday. I’ll be out of office on Wed/Thur, fyi.

Adam,
I know it was a joke, but if you could explain how England and
Russia's builds could have bounced, then I'll be a very happy man! I
must have missed something in the rules for seismic. Smile

England and Russia bounce. Austria and Italy mutually support?!? Yeah, I don’t get it either, but they both ordered the same seismic. Just for the record, had anybody else ordered a seismic on an adjacent border, the A/I seismic would still have succeeded. And, just because Berlin needs more neighboring provinces, France connects it to Switzerland.

Now for those winter adjustments. Let’s usher in the Winter tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1000 CST.

Well, well, well… Everybody’s going to Berlin. I don’t think I’ve ever adjudicated a failed 3-on-5 assault before (though I did observe a 1-on-1-on-1-on-1-on-1 bounce in another game recently). However, something tells me that the party is not over just yet. Indeed, like John F. Kennedy, y’all want to be Berliners. Meet me at the Reichstag.

There is one retreat with one option. I have taken the liberty of adjudicating it:

Italian Army Rome retreats to Tuscany.

There are plenty of adjustments for everybody, and is it just me, or has Russia been playing a unit short for awhile (ever since he waived a build in W1905)? Folks, it pays to double check your GMs handiwork!

But first… now is the time on Seismic when we dance. Seismic orders will be due on Monday with adjustments falling on Tuesday.

All seismics succeed! It¢s been awhile since I wrote that. Berlin and Rome are once again the centers of attention. Plus, Italy gets an exciting opportunity to play the beached whale rule:

As the fleet in Naples now has no coasts, Greg may either disband the fleet or keep the fleet, knowing that the only thing it would be able to do is ¡F Nap Holds¢ until Naples should once again border a sea. Both options have intrigue.

I need a decision from Greg within 24 hours. For now, the fleet is still on the map, but that is easily changed.

Then, we¢ll celebrate F1907 on Thursday, 1000 CST. If anybody wants more time, I can move it back to Friday.

Some units shift, but certainly not in Sweden. The results set up a promising (or despairing) F1907. Virgo will be lucky in love. Taurus should beware of uncertain business opportunities. This may be the time for Gemini to reconcile with an old friend. Libra is just plain hosed. Ursa (as in the Russian bear) has one retreat available from Berlin to Prussia. Fewer survivors means less map tinkering for me, especially when old allies bounce their orders.

Adjustments are due tomorrow from Austria, Italy, and Russia. One has already been pre-ordered. After that, there is no promise of email contact from Austria until the 17th. So, I will set S1907 for Friday, February 20th at 1000 CST.

Additionally, there is a draw proposal for AEFR. One naysayer or abstention will nix the proposal, so get me votes by next Thursday. All votes are as anonymous as my recent vote for Barack Obama… or moreso.

Seismic orders are due on Wednesday at the usual 1000 CST.
