dc492 spring 1901 - catsfather   (Apr 03, 2014, 4:24 pm)
Fall adjudication delayed to, let's say, 6am BST on Friday.  I'm missing one, or more orders.  Given that this is the second round, I think there has to be a bit of toughness ... and I don't think a delay of nearly half a day is as tough as I should/could be.

End of Game notes - thecount1282   (Apr 01, 2014, 11:36 am)
Dear all,
First of all, please accept my apologies for falling off the face of the earth after my thorough ass-kicking in the diabolical hands of Turkey. I am a PhD student at a university that happens to be on a "quarter system" and it so happened that the fiasco in Diplomacy coincided with the busiest time of the school year.

Here are some of my thoughts on this game:
1) Obviously the early NMRs by Austria resulted in confusion for everyone. My initial plan was to work with Austria against both Turkey and Germany, but the Austrian's unfortunate play forced me to make a decision between the two antagonists.

2) I still believe that my decision to stab Turkey early in the game was the correct one, but I didn't follow through with the correct moves (stupidly building an army rather than a fleet in Sevastopol, for instance. We've all seen how important a fleet in the Crimea is for Russia). Turkey also played an excellent game and was able to correctly guess my tactics resulting in my early exit from the game.

3) The greatest regret I have is that Italy chose to work with Turkey rather than with me. I am still uncertain as to why he made this decision. I made genuine and consistent overtures to him from the beginning of the game and it seemed far more logical for him to work with a power who didn't have the same ambitions in the Mediterranean as did Turkey. I must admit that I experienced some Schadenfreude watching the Italian's eventual annihilation by Germany, France, and Turkey.

4) Germany played a marvelous game, somehow he was able to convince England to work against me in the north. Admittedly, my peons to England were less earnest than those that I made to Italy. I was fully ready for a full alliance with the Italian, but I genuinely liked the German and was thus prepared to work with him rather than against him.

Thanks everyone for a great game! I look forward to hearing some more feedback from you.
best,
Greg

Thanks John for GMing a great game.

Had a difficult time for a while, with an ally that took an early bath, then an ally who spent more time trying to get hold of my SCs than working back to back...

But between building some solid working relationships and a great deal of luck, managed to get a foothold in the game.

It did feel somewhat like being at the eye of a cyclone while everyone around me attacked their neighbours in a vicious circle around me - although I wasn't about to play mediator to stop it happening!

You're all such a great bunch, I feel genuinely guilty to those I stabbed at the end - particularly to Michael, my fellow Brit, who was steadfast and trusting and a general all-round great guy. I can only apologise for giving in to temptation!

I look forward to playing with you all again. I tried to be as honest and straightforward with you all as I could, so I hope I haven't marked my own card too badly with you all.

Very best of luck with the rest of the Blitz!

*Peace Finally Reigns*

Hey all,

The draw failed, and I apparently don't have moves from France. But the best France could have done is given Germany a mere 18 supply centers vs the 19 he ends with. The Germans win, and the first solo of the 2014 Blitz goes to Chris. It was a great game, and having played with many of you, I know there were some high caliber players on this map. May Round two treat you all well!

Rp does not want me to paste the moves after the game ends for some reason, so you'll have to look at the map. But Germany gains Por, Spa, and Mar. I love hearing End of Game notes from everyone. What went well? Where did the game go horribly wrong? What devious machinations were in place? Share your thoughts!

Hi gang,

Well it's unfortunate that this one has to start this way, but we have two players that did not send in orders to start the game.  Very unfair for some involved, but I have been instructed by the powers that be to run it anyway.

So Turkey and Italy all hold this turn. Guys, please let me know what happened and try to get orders in for fall.

Fall will be due on Thursday, April 3, at 18:00 MDT.

Hey all,

I love the first season of a game. Especially one like this. I imagine there has to be a lot of unexpected moves here. While I'm not privy to the diplomacy behind the moves, at least some of these have to be stabs. Normally I wait till sometime in 02 to make my mental and unspoken predictions of who's likely to win or draw, but I've got some early guesses this time around. Still, anything can happen, especially at this early stage.
Obviously, no retreats, so we move to Fall this Thursday at 8:00 PM CST.

How disappointing.... three nmrs in the first season.  I will give a couple more hours, but then I guess I need to run the turn.  Please try to submit orders!  Other people's enjoyment also may depend on it.

Welcome diplomats, to round 2.

I am Warren, your GM for this game.  I think only one of you was in my first round game... sorry for your luck Greg.  Send me any questions or comments you have. I can't promise to always respond quickly, but usually I'm not bad.  I also try to give you confirmations of receiving your orders, but no promises.

Sorry I've been a bit slow getting to this.  I think you all are supposed to have prelims in by Thursday, two days from now.

Anyhow, I've tried to make these assignments as random as possible while making sure none of you get the same country you had last game.  Hopefully you are all pleased with them..... but that never happens.  Oh well, suck it up Smile

Here are the assignments:

Fall adjudication delayed to, let's say, 6am BST on Friday.  I'm missing one, or more orders.  Given that this is the second round, I think there has to be a bit of toughness ... and I don't think a delay of nearly half a day is as tough as I should/could be.

I'm your GM for dc492.  As a general rule, the adjudications will be at 8pm BST.  As Derek may tell you (as a player in my round 1 game), there's often a correction later!

I do try to send out a "received" message when I receive your orders.  If you've not had one twelve hours after you've sent them in then it doesn't hurt to send them again.  In fact, I'd rather receive a dozen orders (even duplicates) from you than get to a couple of hours before the deadline and not have any.

Any questions then please ask them.

Let's have fun.

Hamish

DC 483, Fall 1910 Correction - alwayshunted   (Mar 28, 2014, 1:17 pm)
Hey Group,

A small correction to the adjudication last night.  Marc has pointed out to me that North Sea actually moved to English Channel, not London.  I think I just "missed" with the arrow when moving units last night and didn't check carefully enough.  Anyhow, the result is that Gemany does not have a retreat due, instead it is actually already in English Channel.  I will fix the maps tonight with the Winter turn.

Hi gang,

Here is the fall turn.  Some fun things going on, unless you're playing France.  Sadly we will be saying farewell to John after this turn.  Thanks for sticking it out John, and for all the entertaining order submissions.  On the fun side, there was a three fleet convoy... don't see those everyday.

We also have a retreat needed from Germany, see below.  That is due with the winter turn tomorrow.

German F North Sea can retreat to Yorkshire or Norwegian Sea or
Skagerrak or Belgium or English Channel.

The retreat will not affect the adjustments:

Adjustments:
Austria:   Supp 11 Unit  8 Build  1
England:   Supp  1 Unit  2 Remove  1
France:    Supp  0 Unit  1 Remove  1
