Heya all,

The slaughter continues on into Winter 02 as more troops and flotillas are raised around the globe. Meanwhile, some forces find a few empty spaces in their lines when performing roll call. And the slug-fest goes on.

DC224 - Brief Delay - Winter 02 - former.trout   (Jan 20, 2009, 2:42 am)
Heya folks,

Apologies but there are a couple reasons at hand that argue for a very brief delay with the Winter 02 turn. I have one set of stray adjustments, and one clarification to seek. If either one happened alone I would simply put the turn out, but with the two together I will delay roughly 12 to 16 hours.


The Winter 02 adjudication will be issued tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the patience everyone - trust me, I'm sure you would appreciate it if you were the players involved. =)

Hi folks,

There was a slight miscue from your fearless GM last night as he forgot to take into account the number of open home centers when calculating builds. For most there is no impact, but unfortunately I have to peel one build away from the Undead. Sorry Jacob, with only one home center available the Undead only gain one build.


Deadline remains as previously set - Monday, January 19th (11:59 PM GMT).

From he who sits upon the Sacred Stool before the Great Bar at the Most Holy Shrine to the Great JuJu & Pub.

So, what do you get when you cross an elf with an Ogre? A big fat frustrated guy with pointy ears and flat feet who dreams of prancing through the meadows while picking his nose; but has the coordination of a one-legged drunken sailor.

All joking aside folks--Reverses on the battlefield and the suffering of our women and wee folk—alcohol withdrawals etal, weighs heavily upon me. We presented the Great JuJu with a buxom, blue-eyed blonde virgin yet it would seem that he has forsaken us. Though we now think the virgin part may have been a mistake. We prayed for a phantom army to help us smite down our enemies and he granted this not. We prayed for visions of our enemies’ plans at least six hours before deadlines, and he granted this not. While all may seem lost I bring great tidings of better days.

I had a dream. Before me stood the Great JuJu, an awe-inspiring vision of a Muppet with a Muppet band and Muppet chicken playing and dancing behind. And in a balcony above to old guy Muppets providing pithy commentary. And the Great JuJu spoke in a rather high pitched screech saying, “I see that the suffering of thy folk weighs much upon you and you now question the wisdom of the Great JuJu. Fear not for thy suffering has moved me. Break out thy passport, thy dark glasses, Miss Clairol, and battery-operated razor. Slip out the back door unseen and take a charter boat out of thy country. I will await thee at a tropic paradise and we shall discuss the current situation over margaritas and in the company of buxom blue-eyed blond vixens experienced in the art of pleasure.” I knew the virgin thing was a mistake!

While it pains me much to leave but when the Great JuJu speaks we must obey. So I am off to a tropic paradise for consultations with the Great One. Keep up the fight while I am gone. Never lose heart. Keep a stiff upper lip. And as the Great JuJu is my witness we shall never go hungry again! Oops, scratch that last line. I was getting a bit carried away. Where was I? Oh yes, I SHALL RETURN……after a change of passports, probably as a tourist and of course after the statue of limitation runs. Best of luck

The Troll sat with Magician and ordered a brew
Talk turned to tales of sorrow so true.
'Bout women, bout war and 'bout scars that they bore
Both paying heed to the nights Hockey score.

"She hurt me" Troll muttered to mug full of foam
"Griswalda?" Mage laughed, "That ugly old Gnome?"
Raising an eyebrow - "She's an odd one to court"
"Though its true many have sailed through her port."

Half in his cups, Troll started to simmer
As Mage joked bout his love's gnomic glimmer
His friend noticed, and took a long swig
Then humbly apologized for being a pig.

"To each Troll their own, as crazed the match be"
"And for her to defer you, the more fool is she.
"But," Mage continued "Did you think she'd deliver?"
"With Troll fleets invading her home - Newa River?"

"Evole gas semter!" was Troll's retort
"Ce sev" slobber slobber "igsl lort!"
The Magician waited for more, he sat pat
For he was pretty sure he'd just been sworn at.

Troll settled down, he smiled and chuckled
Picked up the stool that in rage he had buckled
"You're right," he agreed, "Griswalda's no crisis"
"But speak of Troll fleets - one just occupied Tarsis."

The Trolls do indeed have a good turn, as do several other factions. The Leprechauns can be forgiven for thinking that their pot of gold must be in another game, and our armed neutral Nomads meet the bitter end of their voyage.

There were two retreats due from the Fall resolution but both had only one option other than OTB. The Barbarian fleet in Paras Derval was relocated to River Saeren and the Leprechaun fleet from Gollerus found more luck in Fitzgibbon. (If OTB is preferred in either case, please just let me know.)

And, with another Fall in the books we move onto Winter 02. Most have adjustments to make - deadline will be set for Monday, January 19th (11:59 PM GMT).

Pull up your drawers, put in a call to the crisis hot line, chug some sodium bicarbonate, and stagger ever forward! Put down your pint, your liverwurst on rye, or if you prefer, that corn beef sandwich with a dab of mustard, and grab that broken bottle, bar stool, tire iron, shiv, and oh yea that shilleighly thingy and rally around the keg!

Let us go forth and blindside, sucker punch, clothesline, clip, facemask, those prancing rat bastard elves and drive them back to whence they came! But we shall not stop there! 01 End-of-Year Report

A full year of warfare and expansion has been completed. What better time to look back at the year that was?

Biggest gainer: Tough choice with three obvious choices. I'll have to give it to the Knights based on having gained three supply centers while stealing only one from a power that did not build this winter.
Biggest loser: Pardon the unkind title, but that's the way it goes. Nobody lost ground, but perhaps this title has to go to the Nomads for losing their captain.
Biggest surprise: Based on the chatter heard by yours truly, it must be the Elvish presence in Gollerus. Anything deserving its own poem must be epic.
Biggest controversy: While being refused access to the first convention of the Palmaris Peninsula, despite having a press pass, I saw something that couldn't help but notice as peculiar. As I was being held up by what could only be described as a bouncer, I saw the High Commission of the Undead leaving the convention. Just before the door closed, he turned around and shouted, "Think for yourselves for a change!" Based on the results of the first year, (Magicians making their way into Skellington and nothing but fleets being built on the peninsula) I can only conclude that the Undead, because of their curse that only allows them to assist the King of Men, were unsusceptable to the spell cast on the Trolls and the Rogues by the Magicians. This investigative journalist calls on the rest of the Haven to respond to this spell. Someone has to break the spell or defeat the affected forces. But beware, the Magicians are crafty; you may find yourselves caught under the spell yourselves...

That's the year as I saw it. Happy stabbing in '02.

Twas a full bar in Lubrick in search of some stew
Wandered a fierce warrior by name of Groo
The place was a gong show - a Leprechaun zoo.


A short little green fellow he sat down beside
Belching and burping his babbles with pride
The Leprechaun - in many beers he had cried


Seeing beside him a new friendly face
A tale of woe out from within him did race
Groo struggled hard just to try to keep pace


One thing the green fellow was not was terse
Spinning stories of how it was all going worse
Our warrior managed to hear ONE of FIVE letters o' verse


"Take those wee gutsy elves, who cut a trim treat
Yet a grim taste o' grist lies beneath edgy ear elite
In those verb' prove it will be a cruel heat"


What are you babbling - Groo cut off his rant
Then thought 'Did I err' as leprechaun started to pant
"What are you some kind of dumb mendicant?!"


Then Groo found fray - and oh what a fray.
Many leprechauns met their end that gloomy day.
For one thing Groo does is Slay, slay and SLAY!

Apologies to Matt as I slightly picked on him for my first Groo epic. He can take comfort in the fact that Groo wanders - and all of you other players will have the joy of meeting our muddle-headed warrior at some time or another. =P

Deadline for the Early Winter 01 retreats will be set for Friday, December 19th (11:59 PM GMT). Yeah, I know that's tomorrow..


Winter adjustments deadline will then be set for Monday. Following that - I don't know. My preference would be to play through the holiday season BUT I need to hear whether or not any of you folks are going to have issues with that. Heya folks of Haven...

Our deadline for Fall 01 orders is in roughly 18 hours. LOTS of you still have not sent any moves my way, so the alarm bells are definitely ringing. =)


However - it has been pointed out to me that on the Spring 01 adjudication I made a slight date error. Instead of Wednesday the 17th, I put Wednesday the 19th. The deadline is for tomorrow night (the 17th) - but due to this error we'll play it by ear and possibly extend if necessary. That being said - hopefully the six or seven of you yet to send in orders can do so for tomorrow.


By the way - I'm thinking of giving this game a Groo The Wanderer theme... In that light, the first person to email me what the secret message is in each adjudication will get a no-prize. And yes - there definitely was one in the Spring 01 adjudication that nobody has picked up on yet. *evil grin*

The stage was set, the curtain drawn and Haven all a-hush
Heroes loomed with weapons drawn and war-plans inked with brush
Inately soon arrived the Spring and forward went the crush.


Some Centaurs were the first of them, to Cathal and Sunless Sea
In view the ominous fleets of Knightly hue in Crystal Lake did be
Snarling Barbarians to Eridu did rampage hastily...


To scholarly quests the Gnomes turned to in Groves of Academe
Hearing Archer cries of sharp surprise in Country of Critter Theme
Elsewhere in Land of Sweets did Faerie feet polish golden boots a-gleam


Sharp Roguish blades did twirl around deep in Daisy Meadows
Elvish fleets in Morva Marsh did practice with bows and arrows
Capering 'long the Razor's Edge the Wizards sought the narrows


Resting not the Undead swept into the Savage Sea
Evading lucky Leprechauns in Merrow handily
Telling tales of Ogre might in Ogrun - far to lea.


Meanwhile 'twas the High Seas stakes the Magicians rolled the dice
Eking out o'er Pirate foes who did not pay the price
Sought out by Trolls of Kahvi shores for support thats oh so nice.


Soft-footed routes did Hobbits take to Brandywine Beer-Hall
Anhondo Plain the Samurai sought for parties till last call
Gulped down the ale did Dwarven Beards in Hollow Earth's dark pall


Ending the round in Splendour Town the Nomads complete the score.
. That's it, its over now. Till Fall, there is no more.

Exciting times in Haven. Unfortunately Heath will not be joining us for the game as the grace period expires without Nomad orders. So I took our armed neutral option and ordered the Nomads as per our neutral players request.


No retreats being required, we'll set the Fall 01 deadline for Wednesday December 17th (11:59 PM GMT). Please just let me know if you spot any errors in the turn adjudication.
