DC428 Spring 1911 Orders, Game Finished - Zoterik   (Oct 29, 2012, 6:37 am)
In a different context, this turn may have marked the beginning of a continental struggle between superpowers.  However, the two-way draw vote has passed (with his second consecutive NMR, Russia falls into Civil Disorder and is no longer considered an active player).  This means that the game is now complete!

Congratulations to Mark (France) and John (Italy)!  This game had more than its fair share of dropped players and NMRs, but on the whole I think it was a very impressive contest.  Feel free to distribute your thoughts and comments on the game.

DC428 Winter 1910 Adjustments - Zoterik   (Oct 24, 2012, 6:47 am)
The end of 1910 is marked by the ascendancy of the West, marked by the proposed France/Italy two-way draw.  And yet, both recipients of the draw vote build fleets which could potentially be used to try to gain an advantage of one over the other.  Meanwhile, out East, Turkey clings on for dear life while a NDR from Russia puts the third Tsar in a tenuous position.

Spring 1911 orders will be due at 9:00pm on 27 October, or 03:00 BST on 28 October.  Don't forget your draw vote!
(I'll send along the map as soon as I can; right now I'm having some difficulties with the internet.)

DC428 Autumn 1910 - Zoterik   (Oct 19, 2012, 6:01 am)
I apologize for the delay in getting this out; getting internet in my apartment in Odessa has proved more troublesome than I had hoped.  I also overlooked one small detail from last turn:  France did not fully occupy Holland, but overran it in pursuit of Kiel, ergo the adjustments have changed from what I previously stated.  The Turkish A Smyrna retreats to Ankara.  Get those builds in by 9:00pm CDT on 22 Oct, or 03:00 on 23 Oct, and I will make sure to go to a café with WiFi on the 23rd.

DC428 Fall 1910 - Zoterik   (Oct 17, 2012, 9:05 am)
France is the big winner of 1910, gaining three centers and pulling into a joint first-place position with Italy, who gained two.  Turkey threw caution to the wind and suffered the loss of Sevastopol and Smyrna, while Germany would rather see his home centers under French direction than under Russian administration, but sneaks into Petersburg.  The French PM has provided us with a very up-beat speech to the workers of the world, and a two-way draw has been proposed for France and Italy.  There are several units which need retreats, but only the Turkish retreat has any option (I've auto-retreated the Russian units).  We will run the Autumn and Winter turns simultaneously; the deadline is 9:00pm CDT on 20 October or 03:00 BST on 21 October.  Adjustments and retreats are given below the orders.

From the prime minister of the French republic, to the people of Europe!

The two southern Republics of Europe having been forced into war for their very survival by the imperialist, reactionary dynasties, can now offer the people of all Europe freedom from the royalist yolk!

See how the citizens of England and the liberated hapsburg dominions thrive in their new freedom, and how the people of Germany and turkey stand ready to embrace the new rights and responsibilities of their liberation.

We salute the brave sailors of the German navy and their decision to give loyalty to the German people and the cause of liberty.

We can only hope that the people of Russia and turkey can find the strength to turn on their war mongering masters, assured as they should be that the republican cause will give them every gram of protection and support possible, and that the cleansing fire that has engulfed our great continent can be extinguished forever!

Vive liberté! Vive l'Europe! Vive les republiques!

DC428 Spring 1910 Orders - Zoterik   (Oct 12, 2012, 10:44 am)
Normally I'd provide my own comments on the latest developments, but this turn the Sultan says it better than I possibly could.  Enjoy this rather poignant performance:

(The scene is chaos.  The once proud Sultan appears on the balcony of his palace.  The pride still shows great in his face and the people who love him roar their adoration for this man.  The man who Bucked the Austrian Liar (see what I did there?)  The man who drove not one but two Tsars from power.  The man who warned Italy about Liar in Austria and when Italy paid no heed the Sultan forgave his foolishness and not only befriended him but handed him the keys to the Austrian capital....

And now this.  The Sultan deceived the new Tsar so that another center could be taken but the Italian stabbed his friend, his mentor...dare I say his Savior in the back and now Italian war vessels surround the Aegean Sea as Russian troops gather in Rumania....)

Sultan:  On this day I promise you, my loyal friends and family.  We WILL NOT QUIT!  We have heathens on our doorstep but the door remains closed!  We will fight on and NOT, I repeat NOT accept the proposed New World Order.
I have asked the great leader of France to turn his forces to our aid....time will tell.
My people.....my friends....I trusted the wrong men, the fault of this terror is mine and mine alone.  We will fight until we are no more.  I would rather the Turkish people be scoured from the earth than to be ruled by LIARS!
I love you all.  I beg your forgiveness.....

Touching, no?  This means that the F/I/R draw proposal fails.  Only one unit-A Holland-was dislodged, but with nowhere to go it is also disbanded.  Thus we move to Fall 1910; the deadline will be 9:00pm CDT on 16 October, or 03:00 BST on 17 October.  The deadline gets shorter now because there are fewer players and we're solidly in the mid-game phase.  On the 14th I'm heading south to Odessa, where I will enjoy a not-quite-as-cold-as-Kyiv winter.

Winter 1909 Adjustments - Zoterik   (Oct 07, 2012, 1:34 am)
Perhaps a deadline extension was a bit hasty.  I'm still getting used to this new time zone.  Let it be known that for the first time, there is a new board leader as Italy overtakes Russia for the top spot.  England is now officially eliminated as three great powers emerge, and although Germany and Turkey may yet have a crucial role to play, I am still collecting votes for the three-way F/I/R draw proposal.

Spring 1910 orders are due at 9:00pm CDT on 11 October, or 03:00 BST on 12 October.

DC428 Fall 1909 - Zoterik   (Oct 05, 2012, 5:18 am)
I fear this is the end of the line for England, trapped in Lisbon by the French navy.  F Portugal is dislodged and disbanded, and England can skip the Winter adjustments (if you want to continue receiving adjudications, let me know).  The tide has also turned against Turkey, who lost two supply centers and now faces a disband while outflanked by the Italian navy.  After a long period in which everything was very much at play, the game is quickly coalescing into a conflict of three super-powers.  To that effect, a three-way draw has been proposed for France, Italy, and Russia.  Submit your EoG votes along with your adjustments and orders over the next game year; the proposal will be valid until Winter 1910.

With both two dislodged units also disbanded, we jump over the Autumn into the Winter.  Winter 1909 adjustments (given below the orders) are due at the 9:00pm CDT on 7 October, or 03:00 BST on 8 October.

DC428 Summer 1909 Retreat - Zoterik   (Sep 30, 2012, 9:07 am)
After much consideration, the Sultan orders his fleet to Smyrna, to defend the Anatolian homeland.  As such, we proceed to Fall 1909, but I won't be able to confirm orders for quite some time (please be patient with me while I move across the planet).  The deadline for Fall 1909 is 9:00pm CDT on 4 October, or 03:00 BST on 5 October.

DC428 Spring 1909 Orders - Zoterik   (Sep 27, 2012, 9:22 pm)
1909 opens with quite a few cautious moves as leaders of Europe try to figure out the new Tsar.  The German occupation of Belgium is maintained as French and Russian generals can't figure out what to do, while England's fate may lie solely with either French mercy or misorder.  We shall see soon enough if France is a de Gaulle or a Clouseau.

The Turkish F Aegean Sea is dislodged; the Summer 1909 retreat is due 9:00pm CDT on 29 Sep, or 03:00 BST on 30 Sep.  As usual, adjudication will take place immediately unless the retreat is designated as provisional.

DC428 Autumn 1908 Retreat - Zoterik   (Sep 19, 2012, 11:40 pm)
The English fleet is disbanded, so the Royal Navy will continue the fight from Portugal.  There was an error on the previous map, which I attribute to a hyperactive touch-pad; the Russian army Munich was supposed to support Sil-Boh, but instead it was held.  Problem solved.  Only two players have builds, so hopefully we won't have to wait until the deadline before 1909 can begin.  Feel free to search around for a new Russian player.

DC428 Fall 1908 Orders - Zoterik   (Sep 15, 2012, 5:21 pm)
The dying wishes of the Tsar were sent to the Russian forces, thus they honor his memory with blood, not tears.  The DIAS has been vetoed, and the game continues following its first elimination:  the final Austrian unit was dislodged and disbanded, and we bid farewell to Buck-a great player who caught the short end of the stick.  If you want to continue to receive adjudications, let me know.

France completes the conquest of Great Britain, but the Royal Navy lingers in Portugal while Russia and Germany exchange a center, and Italy walks into Greece as Turkey sails out.

Two units were dislodged: Eng F London and Ita A Bohemia.  Bohemia had no retreat and was disbanded.  The sole Autumn 1908 retreat is due 9:00pm CDT on 17 September, or 03:00 BST on 18 September.  I will, as usual, adjudicate unless the retreat is provisional.  I will also accept build orders; the adjustments are provided below the retreats.

DC428 Fall 1907 Orders - Zoterik   (Aug 29, 2012, 11:03 pm)
This year definitely has been the most interesting thus far.  We had seven bounces (!), highlighting a turn which involved an apparent collapse of negotiations around Rumania involving all four Eastern powers and a selfless act by France to help maintain the German back line.  Elsewhere, the Russian advance continues, having now overtaken all of Germany proper, while the French return to Liverpool and Turkey gains Sevastopol and Greece at the expense of Serbia and Rumania.  All said, quite a thrilling turn of events, and all seven players still have a role to play after seven years!

There are three retreats due before the adjustments:  Kiel, Liverpool, and Sevastopol.  The deadline for Autumn 1907 is 9:00pm US Central on 01 September, or 03:00 BST on 02 September.  Unless the retreats are expressly marked "provisional", I will adjudicate upon receipt of all three retreat orders.

As promised, this turn has some absolutely fascinating results.  Some alliances are starting to mature, whilst others wither.  Many questions remain for the coming season, not least of which is the role of Austria in the game to come, as neither the Eastern nor the Western Triangle have really developed a major contender as of yet.  We have TWO draw proposals for which I will need all seven of you to vote.  Please make sure to specify which vote goes for which draw.  There were four units dislodged this turn; two have been immediately disbanded due to lack of valid retreats.  The other two require the Summer turn:  the deadline for Summer 1907 is 9:00pm US Central on 26 August, or 03:00 BST on 27 August.  Unless either retreat order is listed as “provisional” I will adjudicate promptly upon receipt of both retreats.

Into oh-seven we go, with all seven nations still alive and kicking (some more than others).  It remains to be seen whether or not this now constitutes the "mid-game shake-out", when alliances first adjust to perceived imbalances of power and threat, but I think we're in for a busy year.  Russia remains atop the supply center chart with 9, followed by Italy and Turkey at 6, France at 5, England and Germany at 3, and Austria at 2.  I expect some feverish negotiating, even though I won't see any of it.

The big winner this year is Turkey, who picks up two centers: Serbia and Rumania.  Austria lives to fight another day, Russia fails to reach Kiel but claims Denmark as a consolation prize, and a French NMR rounds out the season's events.  Two units are dislodged:  French A London (no valid retreat, auto-disband) and Russian A Rumania.  As the Russian retreat will have no effect on the center count, we can run Autumn and Winter simultaneously; adjustments are provided below the orders as usual.

I will adjudicate the Autumn 1906 turn upon receipt of the Russian retreat, unless marked "provisional".  Otherwise, the deadline for Autumn and Winter 1906 is 9:00pm US Central on 18 August, or 03:00 BST on 19 August.

DC428 Spring 1906 Orders - Zoterik   (Aug 13, 2012, 9:37 am)
Well gentlemen, that was a wild weekend.  I'll send another email with WDC reflections later, so as not to clutter up the adjudication here.  But from the orders received, I think this game may have just changed dramatically.  Two units were disbanded without retreats, and therefore are dislodged; the patient Russians broke through the lines to enter Munich, and the assault on Austria continues with Serbia now under the sovereignty of the Sultan.  Due to the dislodged units, the Summer turn is skipped-Fall 1906 orders are due at 9:00pm US Central on 16 August, or 03:00 BST on 17 August.  Now that we're entering the mid-game, I'm going to make the deadlines just a bit shorter (let me know if that causes any inconvenience).

DC428 Winter 1905 Adjustments - Zoterik   (Aug 08, 2012, 10:12 pm)
I made a counting error last turn:  Italy now has six supply centers, not five.
The Spring 1906 orders are due at 9:00 US Central time on 12 August, or 03:00 BST on 13 August.  Thank you in advance for your patience this weekend; I will participate in the WDC here in Chicago, and therefore be unable to confirm order submissions for most of the day.

DC428 Fall 1905 Orders - Zoterik   (Aug 05, 2012, 7:27 am)
The Siege of Munich continues and is parried yet again by a concerted Franco-German defense. This turn's NMR comes from the Sultan, who may have had a chance to go up one, but missed his window.  The German army in Denmark is dislodged and disbanded, England retakes Liverpool from France, and Italy succeeds in defending himself from the Austrian counterattack.

Winter 1905 Adjustments are due at 9:00pm US Central on 8th August, or 03:00 BST on 9th August.  Necessary adjustments are given beneath the orders.
