I would have no problem playing in a game with the GM's spouse. I'm currently playing in one where two players are related, and had I known ahead of time, probably wouldn't have. (Interestingly, Rachael is playing in that game as well.) It's easy to imagine someone feeling differently about the GM/player example. Some GMs would ask for a vote on the issue; others would just make a unilateral ruling. I agree with White Wolf that the decision on how to handle it is solely up to the GM (and the mods). If a player doesn't like it, he or she can resign... from the game. To state that the alternative is to quit DC is a little too close to "America: love it or leave it"!

Folks,
I believe it's time you all got an earful from the guy who's apparently caused part of the controversy in this game. If you're of the "I can dish it out but can't take it in turn" school, delete this now, because I'm not about to pull punches like my gracious wife has so far.
First, let me point out that I have, in the past, blacklisted an entire game full of players because of this type of crap. I keep my own personal blacklist, so it's not something that will affect those players in any future games with other GMs. I just refuse to deal with them ever again because they don't know when to grow up and shut their mouths.
As far as deadline extensions go, Rachael has every right to approve them or not for whatever reason she wants. In this, as in any other call she makes, she's the GM - if you don't like her rulings, step down and delete your DC membership. If you can't abide by a GMs rulings, that's your best recourse.
Rachael went above and beyond the moderators' expectations in asking for your opinions before taking me on as a replacement. We are both members in good standing of this community, and the mods have stated to both of us on numerous occasions that they are perfectly comfortable letting us participate in games together, be it player/player or player/GM. I could very easily have signed up for the game from the Open Games screen on the DC site, and none of you would ever have been the wiser, as I use a pseudonym on DC. Rachael was trying to do the right thing in divulging our relationship ahead of time, and upon the first negative opinion, I opted out. With the spat of resignations following this little debacle, I've decided to take one of the vacant positions if they're not all filled by Christmas. None of you have a say in this anymore, as we've already (once again) been given the green light by the mods. If you don't like it, get out now and I'll take your spot.
I have a pretty bad memory (first thing to go,) so I'm not sure if I've hit all the points I meant to. However, the basic idea behind this email is thus: Grow Up or Get Out. DiplomaticCorp is a thriving site with lots of great players, and nobody likes to play with whiners. The whole point of this hobby is to have a good time. If you're not having a good time, stop participating. Nobody's feelings will be hurt. If you're offended by this email, get over yourself.
Last words: If this were one of my games, I would have already ejected those of you doing the brunt of the complaining. I don't know why Rachael is as patient as she is - must be something to do with motherhood. I don't have the kind of iron will she does, but I practice as much patience with my children as possible. I'm not about to do the same with a bunch of alleged adults.

Diplomacy games may contain lying, stabbing, or deliberately deceiving communications that may not be suitable for and may pose a hazard to young children, gullible adults, and small farm animals.
